Meryl Streep is AMAIZING in this, so much expression with so subtle looks, she is phenominal. i am not a fashion buff, but i love this movie because the story and characters are so great
Loved when you tried guessing the cost of that outfit. The hat alone was probably around $1500 and the bag she was wearing could easily have been another $1000 to $3000. Full outfit was probably around $10k to $15k or even up to $20k depending on shoes and the bag and other accessories.
I've worked in the fashion business for almost 30yrs (also grew up on a farm in Iowa, btw!) One of the first jobs i had after college was working for a very Miranda-like woman. Not nearly at the level of the fashion hierarchy portrayed here, but the daily, silent, head-to-toe outfit scrutiny and the rapid fire delivery of to-do lists was very real! Just grateful there were no cell phones in the old days! But truth be told, i learned a LOT from that woman....lots of her wisdom i still quote. In addition to always having an "old boss horror story" to share.
Her boyfriend in this is the squeakiest of farts, I really hate him. Her friends also suck, they are all to willing to reap the benefits of her job with the free stuff, but then they want to judge her for putting in real effort at a job that could open many doors for her in the career she wants. I hate that "you've changed" trope as some sort of relationship ruiner. Meanwhile he takes a job in another state without discussing it with her and that's ok because it is his career? Gross. The steak she gets for Miranda in this is from Smith & Wollensky steakhouse and can confirm that their steaks are absolutely delicious.
THANK YOU!!! I cannot stand Nate. He is not supportive at all. There are certain jobs where you need to be available 24/7, and sacrifice a lot of your personal life (which someone trying to make it as a chef in NY should understand). It was only for ONE YEAR. Suck it up dude. And yes, her friends were not that great either. Other than learning more and appreciating the fashion industry more, dressing differently, and working longer hours...did Andi actually change? It doesn't seem like she did. Also, being a journalist (depending on what kind) is not always a 9-5 regular job. I doubt Nate will stick around a lot longer for her new job either. What also boils my blood is when Emily gets mad at her for going to Paris. I'm sorry, is she supposed to get fired from a job (which Miranda pretty much says she will if Andi says no) to appease someone who has been nothing but nasty to her since she started!?! Anyway, kind of a moot point since Emily wouldn't have been able to go with a broken leg. It is not Andi's fault that she started doing better at the job than Emily and that resulted in Miranda selecting her to go to Paris instead. Grow up people! If the roles were reversed I doubt Emily would have turned down Paris. She probably would have even gloated about it. Andi throwing that beautiful steak away always breaks my heart. I so would have chowed down on that bad boy.
I don't disagree with you. Except on one tiny thing. They were not together when he accepted the new job. She was his ex at that point. I'm not going to discuss with my ex my potential new jobs. It's not their business. His invitation to come to Boston was him asking if she wants to get back together. She didn't have to move to Boston if she didn't want to. She decided to move and get back together. In all other ways I agree. Not a fan of the boyfriend or her friends.
I think the problem was she presented the job to Nate as just silly and she probably wouldn't last so he was not prepared when she got into the job and the expectations that came along with it. They should have sat down and formed a plan. For the next 1 year we will both focus on out careers and after that year reevaluate and see where we stand. That's called communication and that's why it didn't work. I think it's unfair to blame anyone and before you make Nate the villain, remember that Andy cheated on him while the were still together and he did not take the job out of town until that had broken up
@@thegrasslands4187 She's ultimately not moving to Boston though since she got the journalist job in New York after that conversation, so they won't get back together after all unless they try a long-distance relationship which I don't think would work since, as everyone here is pointing out, Nate is a jerk, he's a selfish, unsupportive crybaby, so she's better off without him.
I used to work in the concert arena business and we worked 50-70 hours a week. You just get used to it. I finally retired after 20+ years to spend time with my grandchildren, best decision I ever made. Oh and I’m with you, I met several music artists and never once asked for an autograph. They are just people. The most likable, friendly person I met in all those years, was Paul McCartney. Nicest person you will ever meet.
One of my favorite outfit changes in this is the brief glimpse we get of her in the matching white jacket and hat while she’s trying to get a taxi. It’s so chic! And how in the world could a “true friend” (especially ones own bf) not be able to see her through just one year of growth, whether it comes across as a positive to them ….or less than such. She’s doing something positive for her career and it’s very temporary. The people in her life are a bunch of asses.

Stanley Tucci is married to Emily Blunt's sister Felicity. - This is seen as Emily Blunt's breakout role. Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Anne Hathaway already had some name recognition, but Blunt was still trying to make her way in. Anne Hathaway was quoted as saying, "I've never witnessed a star being born before." - Similarly, this was Anne Hathaway's breakout role in movies aimed for adults. She had been in several movies for younger audiences and had done well, but many wondered she could do with a more "adult" role. - Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci reunited three years later in the film "Julie and Julia" as husband and wife. - Emily Blunt improvised two lines - "I love my job, I love my job" and "I'm hearing this, and I want to hear this," which she reportedly based off of a mother saying the same thing to a child in a supermarket.
The guy that looked familiar is the one and only “Stanley Tucci”!! Emily Blunt introduced Stanley to her sister and they fell in love and got married!! So now Emily and Stanley are brother and sister in law’s!!

James, I know nothing about fashion, either! I have...6 pairs of shoes, and at least a third of my wardrobe is from high school: I'm 36! 😂 I don't understand the point of following trends, I sincerely don't care about brands, and it's just unbelievably boring to me. When I'm forced to go shopping, I ask myself, "does it fit?" and "is it comfortable?". If the answer is "yes", I grab it and get out as fast as possible. 😂
When I approach fashion as just clothing... then like you I don't get it. But... when I approach is as art... while it still isn't my thing... I at least have an appreciation for it.
My favorite scene is when she throws the phone in the fountain, and my favorite outfit is the yellow plaid poncho. It's all so ridiculous. A little context: no exaggeration, when a new Harry Potter novel was about to drop, bookstores would hire extra security guards to protect the shop the night before so that crazed fans wouldn't be tempted to smash and grab. So when they say Andy is "whining" because she's not willing to die in a hail of gunfire just so the Shining Twins can read it one day before their Upper West Side brat neighbors is not just unfair, it's insane. Fashion, like any art, is based on the hypocritical conceit of artistic licence. Once you accept the truth of an art and take the perspective seriously, new worlds of possibility, context, and meaning open up to explore. Keeping the artistic sentiment relevant to reality becomes part of the challenge, but good art can offer insights when kept in resonant proportion to living experiences. That said, I have never found fashion to be a particularly balanced art form. There seems to be good evidence that it speaks to vestigial genetic impulses which used to be social cues associated with fur markings and coloration. An example would be the change of coloration when a male gorilla ascends to dominant silverback status, and the recognition naturally deferred to him because of his coloration and markings. The psychosocial cues of fashion seem to dredge up the archaic, pre-sentient parts of ourselves that self-domestication has largely bred out of us. Many of those markings still exist in the arrangement of our skin cells and hair follicles (a good number of people have stripes like a cat, for instance), but we lost the fur for displaying the patterns. Clothing also triggers those ancient biases.
I like this movie, but I don't like any of the characters. If I had to pick one, Miranda's my favorite because she's unabashedly honest about who she is. I can't stand the main character's snobbishness--it's an elitism I see in the publishing industry (which is my industry) and it's ego-based. I don't like the BF or the friends, either. But...just like Seinfeld, I like the show but none of the characters. It was well written (I read the book, too).

It's an intelligent movie with realistically flawed characters.
I truly enjoy your channel, reactions and looking daily to see if you post .
