    I do this as well, started doing it when I first got shrimp out of fear of killing them....lol
    Not actually a "drip", but a slow flow through 1/4'' tubing

    great video mark, if like me you cant do gravity fed changes , i use 15 litre bucket with stripped marina 25i pump with 4mm hose attached , then end going into the tank has a flow restrictor on it to limit drips into tank, shrimp rarely notice a difference.

    Well I guess I have researched/watched enough videos (Ive watched some of your videos 10x just to study), because I had this figured out already 😜
    Its way easier for smaller tanks imo, and I use just a airtube valve, but the principle made me overcome water changes death. Even if you mess up a bit it doesnt SHOCK them so you end up stressing the good gene on and on!

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      on neo tanks you will get away with it but not on an soft water bee shrimp tank, I think the soil lifespan would be very short like less than a year.

  • @topnotchshrimps
    @topnotchshrimps ปีที่แล้ว

    Mark I have a question, what is your suggestion if you do not have RO water that is the same temp as your tanks? Would you just have a large bucket with a heater and just have that bucket with the same water parameters as the tank that can be dripped?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just keep the new water in a bucket in the same room as the shrimp for a day before use and it should be close enough.

    I just did this last week I did a ~50 in my community tank with rcs and had it drip so slow that it took days to fill back up and my shrimp as well as everything in the tank seem very healthy and no ring of death. I thought I invented something 😂

    • @2869may
      @2869may 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, a "drip" takes so long... I do a slow flow through 1/4'' tube.
      It's not like acclamation were you're completely changing the water they're in.

    when I am adding the remineralized water that is for example 200 tds for neo back into the tank do I have to worry about it being more than 200 because of the water inside of the tank already has solvents in it

  • @zachofalltrades6116

    also could you do a small electric water pump so you dont have to have your container above the tank? because i would love to have a 55 gallon drum and pull from it and leave it in my spare bathroom and just run a hose from it to all my tanks

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

    I thought the idea of mixing your water from 0TDS to that of the tank was to avoid having to drip it in? That is, the waters should be so similar there shouldn't be a shock right?

    Does the temperature of the dripping water not need to match the tank temperature?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      good question, yes its better if it does.... normally the water is stored in the same room as the tanks so it will be near enough the same temperature.

    This was a half hour well spent. I just have the one ten gallon for shrimp, and am probably the least knowledgeable person here. But I have three other tanks, and I don't see why I shouldn't implement this system for all of them. On disability: Sometimes the disability is awesome, and sometimes society is awesome. And by 'awesome,' I mean something else entirely. lol. And by 'lol,' I mean something else entirely. Ha ha.

    Hi Mark! Hi! What would you do if you had to dilute your tank TDS? Would you lower the shrimp mineral salts in the new water? Pure RO water for dilution is probably a bad idea right? Thanks! Also, what do you think is a max TDS dilution if you had to do it 10ppm 20ppm per water change?

  • @laurenhanna3233
    @laurenhanna3233 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've noticed when I do water changes and i remineralize my RO water, if I wait 24-hours, my TDS has increased by about 50. Have you found this to be true? I currently use Equilibrium but am switching over to the brand that you use. Just wondering if that has any negative effects on the shrimp (if that happens with that brand)

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes thats why you need to let it sit for 24hrs before using it.

  • @metalboozeweed
    @metalboozeweed 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Mark. I have just switched from tap water to RO for my neos, the problem that I have is the water in my tank was sitting around 400+ tds. A couple of weeks ago I did a 10% change with pure RO (0 tds) dripped in, I lost 1 shrimp that I could see (out of 300+) which was about a week later. I've done another water change (dripped) this weekend

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2
