I think the high placement for Luigi isn't necessarily because he's an outstanding player, but because he's a player you have to pick pretty early due to being a rare commodity (wall jumpers). If your opponent picks Mario, you're under pressure to pick Luigi soon, especially if you don't like BJ / Toadette. He frequently gets picked before Diddy / Dixie for that reason, and if your tier list is pick order based, that justifies his higher placement.
This tier list makes complete sense from an outsiders perspective. The baby characters are low tier because they are infants and can’t do much of anything in baseball, and the characters without arms are also low tier because they can’t hit or catch except with their mouth I am assuming. All of the top tiers look like big strong characters who can hit and pitch very well, and also seem like the would be able to sprint pretty fast.
I would like to see an breakdown video of top 3-4 best characters position-by-position. That way, we can gain a better grasp at a character's worth, and how to plan teambuilding positions based on game-by-game drafting.

going off my memory from like 16 years ago, there are definitely a lot of similarities to what my list would have been. my most controverisal take is that king boo belongs in the #1 spot. he was in my opinion the 3rd best of the 4 legit dinger hitters because id slap outside pitch over the right field wall all day. but also i think he slept on as a pitcher, maybe just a grade under boo. being the only homer hitter that could pitch made him most valuable to me. also off the mound 3rd/1st base is a great spot
Its cool hearing some input from someone who actually had a hand in making this. I find it interesting that besides Luigi and maybe Noki you ended up pretty much in agreement with the entire list. The only thing I'm really surprised by is how highly you rate Peach. I think she's decidedly the worst character in the game besides maybe Goomba and doesn't belong anywhere above F Tier. Even her pitching, which is supposed to be her strong suit, is a giant step down from the top tiers and is even worse than mid-level pitchers like Paratroopa or Paragoomba.
I think Luigi gets a good rating because he is versatile in the field. He is good to decent at most spots, not taking chemistry into account. Of course hes best in Right field, but he can play corners with super jump pretty well, decent at left field. Ok at 2B, SS but not who you really want. Slap hit is decent, and his special is a near guarantee single, or at least can be used as a sacrifice to move base runners. I honestly think it is more efficient than the fireball, the fireball can be a double and score more runs which is why it gets more play. Makes him a decent secondary choice as captain behind Yoshi/Birdo/Kongs/Mario. His versatility in the field, and his decency at the plate make him a good player to round out a lineup and can fit in most teams. Of course I use Luigi more than any character so I also have a good feel for him.
i see a lot of tier lists but no one talking about the perfect team if you have your pick of every character no duplicates but yes duplicate variations ex no 2 yoshis but yes hammer and fire bro
Wario needs to be higher due to his pitching ability. You know I'm right, Joe. Also bump Waluigi higher due to his homer tech, it's underrated as hell.
Actually, Yoshi is the other arguably best character in the game, and with infinite fielder swaps he's arguably top three in this one too, so he's a contender.

Bowser is SS tier. Of course! The Meta Knight of Baseball. Meanwhile, Paragoomba is the Ganondorf of Baseball (ironic because Ganondorf is the top tier at Homerun Contest)
I'd assume whoever had Bowser at 2 picked Yoshi or Birdo as #1. Bowser does the same things as Petey and Bro but better. Maybe you put DK higher because he can middle infield, but I doubt it. My money is on Yoshi, who I personally think is the second best character in the game since he is just that much better at fielding than anyone else.
I think Yoshi is absurd as a fielder. Even his bat is insanely consistent as a single. I would have put him at 2, second only to Bowser for his lack of dingers and bad arm.
best 3B in the game by a significant margin (wide and very tall hitbox plus magical catch for extra range), one of the best bats in the game for singles, line drive star swing can hit for doubles
