This pond must be a dream to you and Dave,no digging required just a scrape of the rubbish before the pond underlay goes in, bout time you had an easier job.. just like your own pond it will be good to see it finished

How lovely to see you and Dave again. Now summer is truly here. Still have a large bit of black sheet and a partial hole where my pond project is. Sometimes it takes a couple of years for a proper patina of looking at to form. This could be the year. You and Dave providing smiles, tips and inspiration as always. Great to see you both again. I find the videos so entertaining and informative and the end products are things of beauty. It helps that you are a natural born narrator as well as a skilled 'pondsman'. I particularly like your stonework, it's every bit as attractive as the softer aspects of your creations. Can I ask a quick question Ed. You invariably mortar in the blocks and then scrape a bit away for aesthetics and a refuge or two for fish and invertebrates. Would it be feasible to dry stone wall the surroundings ( in and slightly above the water ) or do you think frogs and the like would inevitably dislodge stones / blocks ? I don't intend to have fish in my pond, certainly nothing of any size. Best wishes.
I know that if I was installing ponds for a living I wouldn't go down the dry stone wall path. More likely to have a fail and a customer who wants things put right. And secondly it would be advisable to have a fairly wide base thereby reducing the pools volume which might already be modest. In my case I don't have either of these reservations Ed.
Hi there Tony, thanks for watching and commenting and my apologies for the slow response. Indeed dry stone walling within the pond is perfectly acceptable- environmentally preferable even, plus all the extra nooks and crannies will be loved by many pond inhabitants! Yes, over time some of the smaller pieces of stone will potentially move a little from frogs and other amphibians squeezing into gaps and the top most pond edging stones will often get kicked or moved around, but I have made many a pond using the dry stone method over the years- I just prefer to make pond for clients in a slightly more durable fashion.
