Actually that was Game of Death. He just didn't finish it.
@@Fatherofheroesandheroines Bruce filmed the Game of Death footage in September/ October 1972 before putting it on hold to film Enter the Dragon. He never got the opportunity to return to GoD before he passed in July 73.

Fun fact: the scene where Parson's boat starts to sink (7:40) was not written in the original script. The boat was released, as per the script, but the film production team didn't realise that it had a leak in it. As the boat started to sink, the film crew panicked but actor Peter Archer yelled "Don't worry! Get the shot; I can swim!" Archer was an Australian who grew up around water. So Robert Clouse kept filming as the boat continued to sink.
Years later Archer reminisced "It was fine as I was a strong swimmer but, gee, that river stank! I was covered in it!”

Saw this in the theater when it came out. The theater was packed and the audience was really into it. When Bruce Lee is cut and he licks the blood on his finger. A woman in front of me stood up and yelled "Oh no! He tasted his blood! He BAD when he tastes his blood!". The audience cheered.
Now watch Way of the Dragon aka Return of the Dragon. Bruce Lee directed that one (the only completed movie he directed) and Chuck Norris is also in it.
LOL, you're perfectly describing the Fox Theatre in 70s downtown Detroit!
If you look at the flags in the background where Lee VS Han, Bruce Lee was so fast in that scene, the footage at that moment was actually slowed down as you can see how the flapping of the flags are off and how slow they move when returning to their "Stance Positions". A common issue with Bruce as he was often told to slow down as can be seen in the behind the scene footage of Game of Death between himself and Kareem where they are both moving about too fast on camera.
Not only that, but in some scenes, when slowed down, what looks like a single punch was often 2 punches in rapid succession!

Fun Fact: Bruce Lee actually struck Jackie Chan in the face with one of his fighting sticks. He immediately apologized and insisted that Jackie Chan could work on all of his movies after that. Unfortunately, Bruce Lee died before he could keep his promise.
Also, an extra challenged Bruce Lee to a fight to see if he really was that good. Bruce Lee won the fight and sent the extra back to work.

Bruce Lee The Man The Legend.He’s the reason why so many of us took up martial arts in the 1970s.My favourite Bruce Lee movie is actually FIST of FURY.My favourite Bruce Lee fight is Bruce against Chuck Norris in WAY of the DRAGON.A fight that still stands up today over 50 years later.This year 2023, is the 50th anniversary of his passing in 1973, and I hope there are plenty of celebrations for what Bruce gave to the martial arts and martial arts movie community.

“I will be downloading this soundtrack.” Damn right you will. Arguably the finest work of Lalo Schifrin’s very esteemed career. (I mean, other than the Mission: Impossible theme, of course.)
Lalo Schifrin was the goods. His soundtracks for "Bullitt" and the Dirty Harry films was pure funky goodness.
Much of the music was lifted directly from this film (including the martial art cries ("kiai" in Japanese) were used in the syndicated show "Kung Fu Theatre" which would air various martial art films on weekends in Los Angeles.
Coincidentally, Kung Fu Theatre's host was John Saxon
Love this movie. So many ppl overlook the philosophy. He was one of a few ppl back then that took eastern & western philosophy & put them together.

Fun Fact: Yeung Sze (better known as Bolo Yeung) also appeared in several movies with another martial arts action star, Jean-Claude Van Damme, such as Bloodsport (1988) & Double Impact (1991).
Bruce made the sounds for real. He used them as a distraction for his opponent. He equated it to animal sounds like tigers who hissed and growled before they attack.
Love this movie. I first saw it as a little boy in the theater with my dad. You should watch Return of the Dragon with Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris
'Way Of The The Dragon' (it came out in Hong Kong before 'Enter The Dragon' did) - the US distributor changed the title to 'Return Of' after 'Enter The Dragon' was a worldwide hit (even though it has no direct connection to 'Enter The Dragon' at all).
Bruce was tiger-fast and Olympic weightlifter strong...Many of today's MMA champs have praised him, saying "No doubt about it--He would've been a longtime champ for sure, Possibly retire undefeated" So sad Lee didn't get to live long enough to see this movie become Warner Bros. top 5 in 1973 and a critically praised gem--Just as he wanted.

There is black and white screen test footage of Bruce Lee where he demonstrates martial arts. In the footage Bruce gives a high-pitched yell during some of his moves, which leads me to believe Bruce did dub the high-pitched yells in Enter the Dragon. Great movie!
I read that although John Saxon was really a martial artist in addition to being an actor, this is the only movie he ever used martial arts in; he apparently wasn't interested in doing it elsewhere on film.
Emily, if you are interested, there are some videos of Bruce Lee doing demonstrations of his skills, he really was fast. His best move the "one inch punch", was hitting his opponent with his fist from a few cm and he could make his opponent fall a few meters. Did you know that one of his students was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?
This was always and will forever be my favorite Bruce Lee film
What I learned in Jeet-Kun-Do is that the noises we make when striking is mainly for breathing and getting ready for a counter so you can counter back. tightening of muscle in case you take a hit when getting in close also, there's less of a chance of getting the breath knocked out of you if taking a body shot. JKD was about distance and ending the fight quickly. Bruce Lee took fencing, Mahamad Alis boxing and Wing Chun and made JKD which he was always trying to perfect. He was a philosopher as well. it's been a long time since I have done anything related to it all. BTW the noises we make aren't too loud but changing up how and when we do it can throw people off.

Two of the worst injuries Bruce Lee suffered filming this movie were: When he was fighting Oharra, the bottles were real glass, and he got his leg and foot cut pretty badly. Also, when he let the snake loose in the radio room, and as he was trying to step on it, the snake bit him and he had to be rushed to the hospital.
Besides being a martial arts classic, that funky 70s soundtrack by Lalo Shifrin alone is worth the watch.
Bolo Yeung plays a hero (for a change) in the movie "Bolo." It's a martial arts comedy remeniscent of Terrance Hill and Bud Spencer's comedy westerns.
That's Keye Luke dubbing the voice for Han. Among 100's of other roles, Luke played the blind Master Po on the original Kung Fu TV show. A show whose producers considered, then passed on, Bruce Lee as the star. The role went instead to David Carradine, a noted rope enthusiast.
Next you need to watch “way of the dragon” aka “ return of the dragon” starring and directed by Bruce Lee , the final fight scene is probably the best there ever was in a kung fu movie !

Highly underrated Sammo Hung movie - Eastern Condors, with Yuen Biao (one of the 'Three Dragons' with Jackie and Sammo)
I loved him in "IP Man 2."
Sammo Hung is an absolute legend in his own right. His choreography made everyone he choreographed look as good an on-screen combatant as they could.

I love how this movie is the beginning of Martial Arts as a genre in America, and how much ground work it laid. You had Bruce, Sammo, Jackie, and Bolo all in the same place. That's the *start* of the legacy of this film.

corridor crew Gui a stunt man talked about that specific scene, and pointed out that Bruce didn't turn his hip all the way and still had that amount of power/force.

I would have to say, though yes, the screaming and yells were done in the dubbing studios, I would have to say they were done by Bruce as they were not present in the first movie he had not part of the dubbing process, but from his second film on, the screams were present and sounded similar from there on and were no longer present in other Martial Arts movies after Bruce's death. Including all the 70s Bruceploitation films that followed since. Though Bruce never made those sounds in real life, he did for these movies.

Wonderful reaction. You guys are so fun. Now go watch Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. It's a blast, and it's gorgeous, and it has amazing fight scenes, and a beautiful love story. The thing that makes it so entertaining as a biopic is that it's like a Bruce Lee movie. The score is so great that bits of it have been used in commercials, trailers, sports videos, all over the place. You won't regret it. Jason Scott Lee looks nothing like Bruce, but he channels him. You believe him instantly. He's magnificent.
Recommendations for other movies to watch. You talked about respect for the stunt men, so I will suggest Ong Bak (2003) and Chocolate (2008). Its not really a martial arts movie but I liked the idea of Gun-fu so I will also suggest Equilibrium (2002)
One story I remember about Enter the Dragon. The one kick Bruce did to O'Haire where he flew back into the extras, was apparently so hard when O'Haire fell back into the men, one of the men broke his arm as they fell to the ground.
I first saw Enter the Dragon when was 7 years old 1978. My father was caretaker of a college that had a film club. So one night I was allowed to stay up late and watch this great film in a college gym on the big screen.. Next day I was Karate chopping everything in sight..
Actually, they had to slow down the camera frames to catch how fast he was. He was faster than what you see in this movie.
Two things....there was talk of doing more films with this character as a sorta James Bond adventure series. The other...when George Lucas was in college and writing his treatments for what would eventually become Star Wars, George created the Jedi based on Bruce Lee. In fact George was hoping when he got the chance to eventually make Star Wars he wanted to cast Bruce as Obi-Wan Kenobi

And btw, yes, Bruce Lee was that fast. Many of the Hong Kong stars (including Jackie, Sammo, Jet Li) had to radically slow down and exaggerate their movements to be able to catch the details on film.
The Shaolin priest that Bruce Lee speaks to at the beginning of the film is Roy Chiao, an actor from Hong Kong who also played Lao Che in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". The reason that the dub is so bad is because that was a deleted scene that got inserted into the movie decades later.
Jim Kelly, who played Williams, made several other action films in the 70s. I'd recommend "Black Belt Jones" and "Three the Hard Way" if you're looking for more quirky 70s martial arts entertainment. These films were later parodied in "Black Dynamite", with Michael Jai White.
Roy Chiao also played Senzo Tanaka in Bloodsport.

The sounds he made were apparently meant to mimic the sounds cats make - which is fitting as cats don't really give any indication that they're going hit, either. There is a reference to the cat thing in the Colosseum fight scene between Chuck Norris and Bruce, when the kitten make's a few appearances.

Nice review guys. ETD is a 10/10 for me. It was Bruce’s real voice and war cries throughout the movie (except where he talks to the monk at the beginning- this was a scene re-inserted in the movie years after release and the audio of Bruce wasn’t of high enough quality to use).

He was 5'7", 126 lbs. He was also obviously chinese, but he is also german. On set of Enter the Dragon some extras challenge Bruce Lee to a street fight and he accept. He won every one of the challenges. He had extensive library at his apartment / house, so he liked to read a lot. He born in United States, San Francisco on November 27, 1940.

as a lifelong Hong Kong film fan Enter The Dragon is a treasure trove of actors that would go on to have huge careers including Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and the awesome Lam Ching-Ying to name just a couple.
Yuen Biao is also in this (and not just two instances in which he doubled Bruce), and you also get Mars and Chung Fat as two of the four guards whom Bolo pulverises.
I also later found out about Mang Hoi being the little boy to whom Lee hands the rope connected to Parsons’ boat, as well as Tai Po being briefly visible in Lee’s flashback sequence.
The trick of challenging the braggart to a duel and putting him off the boat is from the real-world story of historical Japanese Duelist Musahi Miyamoto

The guy sent to "collect the dough or gotta break something" is Pat Johnson who was the referee in the final match of Karate Kid. This was the only movie Bruce Lee spoke in English the rest he was dubbed. Any of the Bruce Lee movies are good for a follow up and of course Bloodsport. (Have a feeling its on the list) ❤ You guys.

I really feel like you would enjoy "Black Dynamite" from 2009, especially if you enjoyed the character of Williams in this movie. So much of the attitude in this movie is highlighted in Black Dynamite, as are many of the tropes of 70s martial arts and "blaxploitation" movies. I would love to see you react to that one.

No dropped frames. He is that fast. So fast, in fact, that when he did, The Green Hornet, he had to slow his movements way down, as all you could see on film was a black blur, and bodies flying. ❤
Fun fact: mr. Han is actually dubbed by Keye Luke who also played mr. Wing in both Gremlins movies. Since Shih Kien who played mr. Han barely spoke english or very broken english.
And when Robert Wall who played O'Hara picked up the bottles, one of them straifed Bruces hand which resulted in a cut that required stitches.

I have the 25th anniversary edition,in the making of this movie. They said the fight scenes were worked on so much,that a mistake of one inch could result could be permanent injury.
At 14:48 when Bruce Lee kicks O'Hara and knocks him into those guys, the force was so great that one of the extras broke their arm as they went down.
yes, and you can see that Bruce actually push more than kicked in that scene.

Fun EtD fact...due to UK censorship laws surrounding the depiction of certain weapons in film and TV, the nunchuck sequences were cut from most releases for many years, since nunchucks were on said list of forbidden weapons.
Also, as I understand it, there were several injuries sustained during filming, particularly surrounding the O'Hara fight.
I believe the bottles he picks up and breaks, weren't stunt bottles, but real glass, and at one point Bruce's fist collided with said broken bottle.
Also, the kick that sent O'Hara flying back into the spectators, apparently broke someone's arm.
Yes, those bottles were genuinely glass bottles. Unfortunately Hong Kong film budgets were so low that they could not afford sugar-glass.

Pippin's cool. About 30 years ago I had a big gray cat named Gandalf. On more than one occasion they had to ask Bruce to slow down because he was nothing but a blur on film.

Great movie. You should watch his other movies. My Favorite is Fist of Fury. There is also a great remark of that movie with Jet Lee called Fist of Legend. Also a great bio pic drama on Bruce Lee is Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story a great movie. When I was a kid, most of my friends in my neighborhood had their Bruce Lee imitations down! We also had homemade nunchucks and no broom handle was safe from us. We had fun right up until we hit ourselves in the face with our own weapons.
Not sure if you've already seen them but BLACK DYNAMITE and WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX might be a fun watch.

This film is iconic for a reason. Funny thing. Enter the Dragon (1973) inspired Jean-Claude Van damme´s Bloodsport (1988), that inspired Mortal Kombat franchises... So you guys are not completely off with test your might. The impact of Bruce Lee is just... immense in modern day popular culture.

One of my favourite films of all time. Bruce Lee is the best of all of us. My dad was a big fan and I believe I was named after him too. The theme song is in my head very often. The scene in the hall of mirrors is so iconic.

Bruce Lee is the kinda martial artist that you can visualise in the middle of a sphere, and anyone attempting to penetrate that sphere, he has an instant answer to. You're NOT sneaking up on him easily. He was inhumanly fast, and powerful. This was also the start of the Western obsession with Nunchucks. This was a major blockbuster movie, in movie chains, making nunchucks cool. This led to various countries making them illegal. As fancy as they look to untrained eyes, they're not actually very difficult to learn, and not as effective as they appear. The landlord character from Kung Fu Hustle worked with Bruce Lee as one of the extras, and Jackie Chan had a "blink and you miss it" spar with Bruce too.
An all time classic...It don't get any better than Bruce Lee.
Also, the opening fight scene. The somersault over the students was performed by Wah Yuen who is an actor and stuntman who bore a remarkable physical resemblance to Bruce. Wah Yuen is still around and has a prominent role in Shang Chi The Legend of the Golden Rings.
Yuen Wah also doubled for Bruce doing the somersault kick @ 14:25.

Wah Yuen was also the landlord in the Stephen Chow film “Kung Fu Hustle.”
Bruce Lee's speed;
he would do something that he called a "1 inch punch" where he would hold his hand flat palm down with his finger touching the target (board, person, etc.), then close his fist and punch in one smooth, fast motion generating enough power to break boards or bricks.

It's based on the pulp magazine character created by Johnston McCully in 1919. Zorro is one of the main inspirations for Batman along with the pulp magazine character The Shadow and Sherlock Holmes. Zorro was created in 1919 & 20 years later Batman was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger in 1939. Fun fact Bruce Wayne & his parents had just come out of a showing of the 1920 silent film The Mark Of Zorro when they were killed in the alley by mugger.

Fist Of Fury is also good. It's almost non stop Bruce Lee fighting. His speed and timing are beyond the norm. He started studying in the style known as Wing Chun which you may already know about. A style originally created by a woman back in ancient times.
I was maybe 8 years old when i first saw this in the early 2000s and i shit you not...Bruce Lee carried the vibe of being a Borderline Superhuman. I can only imagine what it was like in the 70s when it came out in theaters.

20+ years ago I attended a seminar taught by Ted Wong when he visited my JKD gym here in Stockholm, Sweden. He would have been about 65 at the time and even at that age he toyed with our Sifu as our Sifu would have toyed with us. After seeing his strength and speed first hand I have no problem believing that Bruce Lee was indeed as fast as he seemed on film. No camera tricks needed.

Bruce Lee was only 32 when he died and I've adored this film since I was about 10 years old. I'm now 5 years older than Bruce Lee before his death. This sh*t wrinkles my brain... Love the film and the reaction!

Bruce Lee actually did his own dub for 'Enter the Dragon'. And, to answer your question he is the originator of his on-screen battle cries as part of his performance. You can hear him do a bit of it in a 1960s interview (the one where he demonstrates Gung Fu).
