    That’s a lot neater than having to crudely short the Transistor’s emitter & collector on similar radios,although it is probably doing something similar. It is also surprising how well these tiny sets cope with heat.Thanks Fred.

    It might be illegal now but when the SHTF it's a life saver, everyone should be given a choice, in normal conditions, run it on low, when there is an emergency, switch it to high, its's the same responsibility as dialling 999, it's illegal to call that number for no reason, everyone has a mobile but don't call 999 for nothing, there is no training to use a mobile, it's called Responsibility

    I use one on band D AM here in the states with the "mod" as a base station next to my hospital bed. My meter shows 2.75 watts on low and 6.5 watts on high. I have it running into a Procomm PT99 base antenna. It does shockingly good for what it is. Everyone says the audio is nice and clear too. I am in Oklahoma USA and have made contacts in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Mexico and Jamaica so far.

    Hi Fred
    Don't use the Mid 8w on Am mode there is not enough headroom on radio Fred!
    It distorts the Am modulation
    8w car X4= 32w pep ,radio cannot do it.
    Im aware of this as put other similar CB on test communication monitor can see Am waveform distort.
    I would suggest use Am 4w carrier x4=16w 85-90% so that's ok Fred
    Use FM
    4/8/15w only
    I would advise a big fan blower in 15w mode gets real hot!
    Great vid Fred 👍

    Maybe get 2 S units additional output for skip at the expense of the radio. Locally, the power difference is negligible. Not sure it’s worth it. I wouldn’t want to burn it up. Nice video though. Negative: the amount of work it takes to walk thru the menu system. Worse than a Baofeng.

    Oh wow what a breeze those mods are. Last time I did a mod on a 40ch am-fm-ssb unit in 1982, it involved switching certain pins of the PLL processor to ground to get 120 channels and substituting RF output and driver transistors for more beefy versions...

    • @CB-RADIO-UK
      @CB-RADIO-UK  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes its dead easy to mod. Normally you have to solder tiny pins on a pcb.

    Hay Fred this seems very compact little unit. Just want to seek your advice as I know nothing about CB.
    I own a mx5 and me and my bro do road trips in Europe where mobile coverage is spotty.
    I no longer use the cars areal so would be nice to use it for something.
    Is this unit possible to hard wire in a car and run of a areal. I’m not transmuting far like car to car over a max of a mile

    • @CB-RADIO-UK
      @CB-RADIO-UK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Your car antenna is tuned to the FM band 88-108 MHz. UK cb radio uses 27 MHz so it wont work iam afraid. You would need a proper CB antenna. A magmount would got center on the boot lid. More on mobile Cb antennas here. th-cam.com/video/-4dbYAigpvw/w-d-xo.html

    Much easier and safer to just use a small amplifier, say something like a kl35 or kl50. Keeps the actual unit legal and fully warrantied. Just use a very good quality patch lead between the radio and the amplifier to keep losses to an absolute minimum. Make the patch lead longer if you're putting the unit into a mobile, that way it can be hidden out of sight and use an inline power switch to the amplifier.
    Would be cool to see how that little power meter performs at the far end of a length of coax to simulate losses at the antenna base.

  • @daienaa

    But does the dummy load prevent the radio from damage if it’s connected to that rather than an antenna?

    • @CB-RADIO-UK
      @CB-RADIO-UK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would be fine with the antenna but power would depend on the SWR. The dummy load has a perfect 1-1 SWR and is a 50 ohm impedance so no power is lost.
