    Crawler is an umbrella term. And the Willys definitely falls under "crawler"

    I could watch this rig do things all day. Something about a leafed truck doing things everyone says it cant is such a joy. Thanks for this.

    To increase the performers of TF2 I recommend:
    1. clock the motor.
    2. Install an o-ring between the leaf springs.
    3. Grind at an angle
    the eye of the leaf spring mount on both sides leaf spring.
    4. Replace the belly skid with a flat one.
    5. Install Panhard.

    I took my class 1 hardbody jeep out the other day and was shocked how well it did. It just went over stuff I usually take the class 2's, with heavy body movements and all. Looks great when the tires tuck inside the fenders. Sometimes you just need to grab a small guy and go!

    I have 4 leaf rigs, they all spend quality time on 3 wheels its the nature of leaf rigs imo, lots of fun to wheel though

    ❤ nobody would call my modified Kong head a " rock crawler " but when I'm crawling it over my rocks, that's what I'm calling it 😂

    While I had the trf2 LWB four door of this I ran the one spring and bobbed the bed. That truck was very capable. People don’t understand is the leaf rear is very nice it allows little down travel. So when climbing the axle will hang over a pocket or low spot instead pulling down to the earth with so much movement that it takes the front off the ground causing a roll over. I bet this side hills very nicely.
    It’s line choice to it’s scale anymore that a scx6 person claiming a 1/10 honcho is not a crawler. Your brains are marketed!!

  • @bucketheadrox

    I bring my painted up marlin I call the meanie cause it's greenie. Thr A&M shackle flip +4mm wheelbase mod made it press itself into obstacles better. It also is more scale to a real yotie

    Zoku RC makes hardbody mounts to fit that body on a Phoenix. That's how I got my Xtra Cab, crawls great for a hard body.

    I personally love the trailfinder trucks. I had done a lot of the upgrades on one and it could flex like a linked truck. Z-box and shooter shackles help with flex. Also the Chino mod on the springs and o-rings. An anti wrap bar on the rear is nice to have.

  • @EddieDesigned
    @EddieDesigned 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the leaves are supposed to be tightened down, but I do like the idea of o-rings in between to aid flex. Worth a try? A lot of people file off some of the outer edge of the mounting rings on the springs to allow more flex through the twist
    3.93 = class 0, 4.19 = class 1

    Scale builder's guild has a great video on TF2 flex tips it's a few years old now. A&m garage has a nice flat skid that flips the t-case and in doing so gives overdrive cause of the gear ratio.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it's only pointed out in earlier installments, but I already fabricated a flat skid and lifted the T-case.

    I tighten the leafs all the way down. They will wrap under torque, that's why you need helper leafs. I run half helpers to control wrap but help flex. One half helper below the main leaf in front of the axle, one half helper above the main leaf behind the axle.

      Curious if you've tried the NWSD leafer chassis? He's local to me and a lot of the local comp folks run it but wondering if you've tried it next to your TF2s?

    As you are trying to make a rc4wd run like a rochobbu or FMS I’m loving the idea of the hardcore guys fuming.
    Quiet and smooth is all you need
    Embrace the differences.
    Trail trucks bs crawlers….but if it’s not full drooped lcg with 10 degree skid, ruptures and HH and vanquish then it’s a trail truck lololol
    Awsome run dude I love it I want a nice stuff trail truck.

    Ol blue is amazing, I've been thinking of doing a leaf sprung rig, i am wondering if the rc4wd teraflex shackles would help with flex?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My philosophy, nascent as it is, is that leafs don't want big amounts of flex. As a leaf setup essentially has zero downtravel, getting more flex involves making the vehicle sit higher at rest-- and I think exchanging CGH for uptravel, particularly with a hardbody on top, isn't the way to go. I do plan on adding two more leaf rigs to to fleet-- one with a full hardbody (and all the fixins) and one built for as much performance I can can squeeze out of it.

    I will say from experience rock beasts kinda suck when they're new but neat the snot out of them to get them proper broke in and they grip hard you just have to mistreat them a lot when new.

  • @HVT03

    This video is what I nedeed, even though I didnt knew I needed it. I was trying to convince myself to get Bounty Hunters for a rig that cant use those tires (really short wheelbase, and some old 90mm tires fit just perfectly inside the fenders). I have to search for a 90mm tire that suites my rig, hope to find some 1.55 wheel+tire combo that doesnt cost more than the whole rig. Is it possible to get to 210mm width in any way? I have been searching for some narrow axles (I think some MST ones may fit, also contemplated using UTB18 axles as my last option), because if I use normal 1/10 axles, the width ends up at least at 230mm (I have tried it just to see how it would fit, doesnt matter how I look at it, I dont like it) , and I will need to cut a little bit of those fenders (and thats something I really dont want to do). Hardbody btw, so I cant cut those fenders now to fit normal axles, and maybe in the future buy some Aliexpress fenders and shorter axles, and replace them (there isnt enough plastic to screw new ones)
    Man, how do I manage to type so much to explain my problems, and worse, why do I have so much problems with RCs 🤣
    *Edit: I have been looking at Pivots, and they arent 1.55s, but are my first choice for the moment

    I very much prefer a 1.55 on a leaf truck. I feel like the extra sidewall helps with flex.
    Class 0 isn't an official thing. Class 1 is anything 4.19 and under, so 3.85 is still class 1.
    Big tires and leaf springs are a bad combination. Most of RC4WD's leaf trucks come with 3.85 or smaller tires.
    Be very careful with that Fusion. It'll twist those leafs up in the blink of an eye. A short outrunner would give you the drag brake and smoothness you want with less likelihood of twisting leafs.

    • @JPWirt
      @JPWirt 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct "Class 0" is not technically a thing, but there are people who want it to be. In Oklahoma we run "Crawlapalooza Rules" a lot. Their smallest tire class "Daily Driver" stops at 4.0" and the C1 equivalent class "Trail Class" stops at 4.19"

    The Willis is a crawler in 41’ 1:1 probably wer we’re not 4linking and coil over. But the rochobby is very much a crawler 😂 the people are lost ditch the shell and what do you have 4link coil over locked axles one could Argue locker no locker tinny scale gets a pass in that category. Buy the 1/12 scale for accuracy.
    But still an old CJ-7 on full-size truck leaf springs with long shackles and a set of 1/2-1ton axles will
    Get the flex 💪 on!!

    I know this might be an unpopular view buuuut..... I've noticed a peculiar thing. The more scale looking something is the less I care about how capable it is. I fully endorse leaf springs on scale rigs when they're supposed to have them especially when you're already making huge sacrifices for a hardbody. I'd put the full RC4WD v8 dress up kit in every one if they didn't cost as much as another rc. Hell... I might even be persuaded to put a sound box in it at that point! Just don't put any f@king blinkers in it please. 🤓
