    Absolutely beautiful video. One of my favorites of yours yet, if not THE favorite. :) **Off topic question, if you don't mind. Where are the cliff dwellings in your intro?

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much! Those cliff dwellings are in Mesa Verde NP, it's the Balcony House ruins.

      I knew it! I recognized it the first time I saw it! My husband and I were there in June 2008. We camped in the park for 2 nights on our way back to Texas after motorcycling to the Black Hills. We saw the Balcony House and the Cliff Palace. It was our first time in any cliff dwellings and it was spectacular! Thanks for responding! Travel safe! :)

      Oh and to add, we were there in June also and were hailed on every single night while in the Black Hills. Got down to hi 30's, low 40's at night. Most days wore lots of layers and peeled off as the temp warmed up. :)

      Yeah, it is the Great Plains after all! Anyone headed there in spring should be prepared for severe weather. Thanks for sharing your tales!

    Thanks for posting this video! This video has helped me as i walk down my own memory lane! I visited Red lodge Montana and drove along the Beartooth Highway on the fourth of July weekend in the early 1970s on my way to visiting Yellowstone national park! I really enjoyed my virtual return to Red Lodge Montana! Thanks again! 😊

      Thank you Lynda! FYI we returned a few years later, coincidentally over the 4th of July in Red Lodge, and got somewhat better footage: th-cam.com/video/-CYVI1X_yy4/w-d-xo.html

    A
    Thanks for another great video of the scenic West! I was in the Beartooths late August 2018. I camped at Island Lake CG, where I had a few days of beautiful weather. Then woke up to a couple of inches of wet snow, so I headed out. It was 40s and rain in Red Lodge, so I didn't linger in the area. Still, it was a great trip. You just have to be prepared for any kind of weather at those elevations.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true -- any weather, at any time of year. By late August, though, your odds of a sharp cold front start rising. We've even hiked through snowfall much further south in the Uinta Mountains of Utah. As you've pointed out, it's all about the elevation.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gavin Streetie thanks again! It's normal when we're boondocking on public lands, as we were in this episode and the past few. Many parts of the western U.S. have a lot of public land and open space. For example, my home state of Utah is 67% federal land and another 13% or so state land, so it's roughly 80% publicly owed. However, we're now on the Pacific Northwest coast where there are very few such opportunities (the channel episodes are about 2 weeks behind real time, due to video production times), so we're now pretty much relegted to campgrounds until we head back away from the coast later on in our trip. My personal preference is for boondocking on public land away from any neighbors.

    The beartooth hwy may not be as high as Pike’s Peak but certainly looks scarier!! And snow in June... holy cow😳

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The last few switchbacks of the Beartooth are far scarier, there's more exposure than on the Pikes Peak toll road. However, wait until a week from tonight, we've got a one-lane dirt shelf road for you with a 1,500-foot truly vertical cliff wall immediately below. LOL! Also, if you haven't yet seen our Million Dollar Highway episode th-cam.com/video/wte47AEZzwA/w-d-xo.html the drive over Engineer Pass would leave Ben absolutely catatonic. ;)

I have a question in regards to your truck. Any problems or concerns? You pretty much use yours the way I plan on using mine and one always wonders what to expect . I value your opinion and look forward to your answer . Thank you sir and your work is greatly appreciated.

      Thank you so much, John - we appreciate you being here! No problems with the truck whatsoever. It's hard to beat Toyota quality and resale value. Prior to the Tundra we were driving a Tacoma, and the resale value we got out of that was incredible. We've never had to do anything with either truck other than routine maintenance.

    How are the campgrounds you did not stay in there by Red Lodge??

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are your typical US Forest Service campgrounds. Some of them with smaller sites than others. They're dry campgrounds, so I have a hard time bringing myself to pay for a more crowded experience than I can get for free.

    Going up the Bear highway pulling a Camper trailer or Motor home !!! This is not a good idea. !!
    Your transmission will overheat like crazy and more like go out !!!
    I have seen this many time with people from other state !! They say it will
