I am 75 Year old and since 1981. I have Technics SE-A808, ST-K808, SH-R808, SL-Q33, RS-M 250 and EVERYTHING works. Turntable is SL-Q33. SUPER turntable, I am happy. Technics for ever.
I've got this turntable and after not having my complete system set up for several years, I just purchased the Klipsch pm51 BT speakers that include a preamp and turntable input. Works great and I'm enjoying my pristine vinyl collection once again. Love this little Technics that I bought new to replace an akia that finally quit after making many a round. The Technics has given years of service and I'm hoping for years more. Jam on.
I have one of these which I purchased brand new from a London store in 1993. It's in absolute mint condition due to not having much use. It's kept inside a hi-fi cabinet along with the rest of my Technics separates including my Technics RS-BX808 cassette deck.
Thank you for your reply. I enjoyed using it back in the 90s when I made some really great sounding compilations of my favorite dance CD tracks. I still have them and they still sound great. Did you know the RS-808 has manual BIAS control - brilliant! It was my first experience of matching tapes to their correct BIAS. And I could clip at around +7dB without noticeable distortion. Wow! As for hiss, I don't think I ever heard any - and that was in Normal position!
I still have mine. It is in MINT condition. I still have the box, the styrofoam, and the owner's manual, ALL in MINT condition!!! I have it hooked up to my 1978 Marantz receiver, ALSO in mint condition!!!
I just got a SL QD22 for free yesterday. Need just a little bit service. New cardridge, lit, technics Logo and i need to get rid of some tiny scratches in the metall plate. But that's all easy fixable
...as usually for technics devices, there are two color options: silver & charcoal. i can´t even remember where this particular devices was from: best check my "hifi-finds-videos" perhaps you can spot it! :)
My parents got one of these when I was a kid and I broke the lid off and broke the stylus. Later in life I repaired it so I could enjoy it but man they were pissed at me. Granted I was 4.
Is the dustcover on this model SL-QD 33 supposed to be removable? I have the SL-QD3 and I have owned other p-mounts like these from Technics and all of them had easily removable dust covers except this QD 33. It seems locked in the hinges. Mine is the black version. Thanks.
with t4p you are limited to that mount. there are some updates to the stock technics system, i have not testet any of them. for example grado: 90 - 130 euro... ...perhaps you should consider updating to a more sophisticated turntable!?
hey debie, prices vary depending on your location. i have heard that prices for vintage hifi is going crazy in australia. i can confirm prices going up here in germany also... if you want to get a feeling for the value of your turntable, watch this video : th-cam.com/video/ER5p3CC7UDY/w-d-xo.html
excellent question! and yes, you will need a preamp on most modern ampifiers to hock up a turntable. back in the day´s all of them had a phono-input for tt´s...
press the cueingbutton again! for full documentation go to vinylengine, signup for free and download the manual: www.vinylengine.com/library/technics/sl-qd33.shtml
hey lyse, it doesn´t include speakers. in order to hook the sl-qd 33 up to some aktive (amplified) speakers you will need a phono preamp. optional you can use a receiver/amp that already has a phono section to drive passive speakers.
Lyse usually the only turntables that include speakers are very low end units and that aren't worth the effort. If you're just starting out, try a vintage deck like a Technics or Pioneer, get a Pro-ject phono box and a set of computer speakers. The phono box is a pre amp that's required for any table without a built in pre amp.

in my opinion the q33 is the most underrated technics turntable and one of the brands best!

how did you repair the broken lid?
What Function or purpose does the red strobe/illumination light serve? I figure it probably does more than just look cool when a record is spinning.
That's the Quartz lock, it helps regulate the RPM of the unit

yes, you can take the lid off. as i remember mine was stuck firm and i carefully had to use a flat screwdriver to gently ply it out...
