This was what I think Rex envisioned when he has Daniel do "Poor Mans Blends" - where he has just ENDLESS tastings of all of the options Daniel thinks about putting in the Poor Mans blend, then tasting the end product as well. Make sure you have enough glasses cleaned and available for the episode! (or wait, maybe that IS Daniel's backup plan to keep things in hand!)
I'll try to list some that should be more available and not too expensive (so you can try and see if you like the profile). Everyone seems to like Rittenhouse Rye (cheap, good, and not too high abv) If you like Jack Daniel's, they make a rye that is essentially Jack with a rye background. More expensive but vastly superior would be Pikesville Rye by Heaven Hill (Now this is rye)

Question: I understand that the shape of the glass can change the taste of whiskey or wine but what if you keep the shape and change the material the cup is made from? For example well camping you don’t want glass. What if you used copper, silver, pewter ect?
I just picked up a bottle of the Jefferson's Classic and I have to say, I agree with Rex's notes. It's not an incredible whisky to me. Even at it's price range I could pick out other bourbons like Four Roses or Woodford that at the very least leave a lasting impression. It's still very drinkable but it's really the first whisky that I recommend drinking on the rocks rather than straight to wake up more of the flavors and ease up on the bitter finish.
So what i would have asked, had i had a means to type, since it is "fall" in the world and in texas its "spring" now. But since it is fall, what whiskey would make for the best fall drinks, either neat or cocktails?
Hey, Daniel, I remember in an earlier video you said that despite trying to be a wine somm before, you have since drifted into the camp of not liking wine. Has that gradual shift affected how you enjoy (or don't enjoy) port or sherry cask finished whiskeys?
I've had small changes in whisky too. I gravitated to heavy smoke for a long time. Recently I've been falling back in love with Sherry cask finish. I think it varies.

I have never tried a Rye. Daniel, what are your recommendations for a Rye Whiskey and the ones which are globally available.

Although pricey where i am Michters rye is outstanding.
I doubt Michter's will be easy to find out of the states. Their Toasted Barrel Finish Rye is still my favorite.
