I agree with a lot of comments liking the new format. I think it gives a more rounded description of the experience of a whisk(e)y and will reach a broader audience. The only problem I see is that the videos will get longer and we already know that Rex has the attention span of a 3 year old who ate too much candy (no offense to any 3 year olds in the audience). Love what you guys do! Keep it up!
I see no problem with changing up the format a bit. The bit with ice is maybe unnecessary since Daniel has explained plenty that ice will just bury the flavors, but maybe for some whiskeys that might be a good thing for people new to whiskey.
I just found this channel a few days ago and have been binge watching when possible. I don't drink much these days, but once, long ago I was in the Navy and partied too often and too hard. I am not even sure I could sip a decent whisky anymore...but the more I watch the more I want to start delving into my stash and see if I find anywhere near what you guys find. You have rekindled my interest in enjoying a good drink from time to time besides a stout beer every few weeks.
Macallan Edition No.4 is the best whiskey I have ever tried. I love scotch across the board from Speyside to Islay, with my previous favorite being Oban 14 but the complexity combined with the comfort of this Macallan has graced the number one selection of my palate!
I’ve been watching since episode 1. And I always thought Rex was added to give us a common man’s perspective we can relate too. But know he is becoming the voice of the people.
I think with time this could be great. I’m personally a fan of the non structured craziness of the previous format. But that was a new format at one point as well. I’m sure this will smooth out and be great! Also, I’m about to end my dry TWO weeks (on a business trip in Hawaii and alcohol is obscenely expensive) and I could not be more excited to get home and dig back in. Lagavulin 16, here I come!
Also, you guys thought about doing a whiskey podcast? As in, you talk about whiskey topics, drink a dram or two, and get all them stories out? I'd listen!!!
I agree with Rex on the water part. I'm still - after all this time- disappointed that your didn't try Benromach after adding just a few drops of water. Benromach 10 just change SO MUCH with just a few drops of water. It's almost 2 whisky's for the price of one.
A few thoughts; Nose the Whis(e)y. Taste the whis(e)y. Talk about the whisk(e)y. Water is your friend. Tongs are awkward. Ice ruins good whisk(e)y every time. Little chairs are appropriate for story time with Daniel. Rex is still a giant whisk(e)y fiend but a video/marketing genius. This video gives me a funny feeling in naughty places...must be the whisk(e)y. P.S. I love how this channel continues to evolve.
"2 dashes of water" I like the idea of administering water via a bitters bottle or other dashing vessel (i.e. Japanese Bitters Bottle--very precise volume per dash). Part of the reason I rarely mess with water when drinking whiskey neat is that I have to go get a glass of water and a straw or spoon. If I used a bitters bottle, I could just leave it near the place I usually drink and just give it a dash or two when the mood strikes.
Like the new format. I've always liked Daniel's stories and research; best part of the review First comment. have watched you guys for the past year and will do a class next October. I originally was going into wine making but was bitten by the whiskey bug and am starting toward distilling instead. Thank you guys for the great content, laughs and stories, Cheers
yes, they do make counter top ice machines. My buddy has one, he fills it with spring water. it's awesome. ALSO! I know you guys have Wholes Foods there, they have awesome whiskey ice. big cocktail cubes.
Excited to see how much you guys enjoyed Ed. 4. Didn’t even realize it was out yet. In the past editions the blend was guided by “chefs” was it not? Maybe just edition 2? Curious how they go about picking the mix for each edition if you care to share! ANNNNDDDD gotta say I am looking forward to spending the first 25 days of December “with” you and an Advent journey that has been epic (in the past - Johnathan ROCKS!).
Hey I’m new to the world of Whisk(e)y. I love the show and have purchased bourbon off of your recommendations. I have already acquired a small collection in the few weeks. This is Jarrold coming from Buffalo, NY. Go bills!!!!
I really liked the angle of the story time scenes. so it would be really cool if you guys made a set like the one you have i the whiskey tribe video "How to start a whiskey distillery like a magnificent bastard ". two chairs and one table in the middle. you could even review the whiskey there.
Hi guys! Thank you for doing all these videos. I've watched from the original sitting days. I like that you're playing with the format. I think maybe the charm of the stories were that they were either off the cuff or were done while in the process of tasting the whiskeys. I kind of prefer not sitting and cutting to a story time. But again, appreciate what you do.
Like the new format. The blind whiskey opening for you two is perfect I think, gives you a chance to try the whiskey blind(ish) first that and the water addition is good too along with people who like ice. Like the additions :) Think they work plus dont know why Story time reminds my of Ronnie Corbett's cosy chair stories
A format change is OK. However, ice should not be a factor - as it alters the enjoyment too much. Like the blind lead-off of nosing/tasting the pour, then giving experiences of the sample.
Liking the format! Storytime was inviting and got more focus. Love the "blind" tasting. Definitely keep that. The ice seems like a waste of time and good whisky.
Finishing my last of my Ardbeg 10 while watching the rest of this video. Going to have to pick up something new. Anyone have any suggestions? I really enjoyed the Ardbeg; however, it was my first stop on my "Whiskey Journey".
loving it!.....More more more more!!! Love the format....WAY better backdrop with the chair-cam..We can actually see the bottles...Edition 1 was excellent!(Cant get it anywhere here in CA now and wish I had bought 4 bottles to sip from lovingly).....Left me wanting more on edition #2(Not for me)...3, only had one taste at a whiskey convention and was already smashed so cant remember)...lol.....From your notes on 4, don't think I'll waste my money for a bottle as those notes aren't my favorites...I'll find out in a tasting somewhere if I see it....
Rex Month is going so well, maybe we need to move this to Rex Year? I enjoy the banter between you two. The changing it up has been amazing! Not knowing what to expect each day has made this a lot of fun.
new format is great, water is welcome, ice is nice but not necessary, comparisons will be easy, this is easy for you, i hope the final stretch of rex month is a real mooching
I love how you’ve decided that after more than a year of videos, it was time to become whisky reviewers, lol... it’s good though! Ice shouldn’t be mandatory to the review though... maybe a conditional modifier when you find something that you think might go good on ice. Also, I totally agree with Daniel, if you’re doing ice, grab a block of ice from the freezer and do it right.
I have been watching for over a year now, I’m 18 which means sober while viewing and I love the stories and information Daniel inputs 😂 Fuck am I boring? I digress. Love the format gentlemen, leather chairs? Or too stereotypical?
I like the new format. Or maybe I just like that you changed it up a bit :D Iffy on the ice part. I understand it adds completeness to the review from some peoples perspective. However, if most experiences are similar to this, it may just be a waste of good whisk(e)y in the end :)
I enjoy the story times, about the whiskies..... also I like the idea presented for the water and ice. I'd imagine Daniel enjoys playing with his whisk(e)y, perhaps with these blind reviews you could also try to replicate the whiskies presented from time to time as well....just a thought
Rex promised everyone he had a plan at the beginning and i cant help but wonder if at this point he has either changed him mind , he forgot, or if he said screw it its to much work.
I am one of those conflicted viewers! I do love Rex, and I am really enjoying how #RexMonth is progressing... but every video, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop
Can you guys please do a side by side review of all of the Macallan Editions 1-4? Im curious to see what you both think of them when tasted next to each other. Love your channel. PS Longmorn 16 wins every time!
Hey, thanks for the video. I was wondering if someone would help me out with picking some gift whiskey for my friend. I know that he likes dewers white label. I kinda want to upgrade him for the sake of his birthday. Any recommendations 40$ or under.
Y’all should do one episode a week that Rex just drives Daniel insane and see where it goes. Not like the whiskey tribe where it is something ridiculous but something that actually gets under Daniels skin. I like the reversal of testing the whiskey first then self revealing but i do think the sit down histories are a little much. Maybe once y’all find out what the whiskey is then Daniel can go on his rant. I just feel the sit down makes the show a little to segmented and not as much of a natural free flowing conversation. Keep up the great work. Whiskey has always been my go to liquor but y’all got me into whiskey. Thank you for all y’all do.
I dont mind the new format. Not a huge fan of the hard cuts to sitting and to toast. Maybe a transition In between or something. Also it would be funny if every time daniel has a story (which I enjoy by the way) that you put like an old time filter over the scene to make it seem like he is telling a story from way back and that he is much older than he seems lol.
I like it. It's a bit more like Ralphy where you have the first half of the video if you just want to know about the Whiskey and then the second half full of fluff and nerd stuff.
As soon as they come out u need to try the game of thrones whiskys as they have partnered with diagio nd r doing a lagavoulin 9 year old for house lanister
I really liked the “story time” change, however I am not a huge fan of keeping the whiskey’s identity hidden for the first bit. Just my humble opinion. Cheers fellas!
Wow, get in after 2 minutes, already 8 comments. And, great choice to review, so tasty. And yes... very very torn Quoth the Dark Mooch: "Just made to be good"... he forgot to add... "And they succeeded"
Daniels laughing reaction about the chair was fantastic... I also kinda like the sitting down for story time
I agree with a lot of comments liking the new format.
Keep it up!
I enjoy that the ''new format'' is just an excuse for rex to sit down while daniel talks about music and/or old and/or dead people for an hour
I see no problem with changing up the format a bit. The bit with ice is maybe unnecessary since Daniel has explained plenty that ice will just bury the flavors, but maybe for some whiskeys that might be a good thing for people new to whiskey.
agreed, keep the ice close & available but it's likely not necessary in every review.
Dare I say this was mostly actual whiskey talk?
I enjoy this way of reviewing. Really helps get in to the whiskey via flavor then history.
I like the tube sock idea, the blind taste test with no brand bias. The water and ice i can take it or leave it.
When they sat down it looked like gandaf and a bald frodo having a drink.
If Gandalf were like 1500 years younger and a bit on the hefty side, sure.
I enjoy the new format also! It is good to keep the channel fresh!!
Oh I liked this. The blindfold test is cool.
I really like the new format! Rex gets faster to the whisky, and Daniel can still narrate his stories!
I like the new format. We get tasting notes, jokes and a story. It’s almost perfect.
"It's to size." And I absolutely lost it. Thoroughly enjoyed this episode

This video gives me a funny feeling in naughty places...must be the whisk(e)y.
P.S. I love how this channel continues to evolve.
Yea, I kinda like a dedicated story time being at the end. I even like the whole transition to the toast thing.
"2 dashes of water"
I like the idea of administering water via a bitters bottle or other dashing vessel (i.e. Japanese Bitters Bottle--very precise volume per dash). My first whisky i liked was the nikka from the barrel and not watered down
keep up the amazing work!
Best whisky channel!
Finally!! Redo all videos now with ice. Expect to have them updated by next week have fun guys.
I really enjoy the new format especially with the chairs for story time.
Like the new format. I've always liked Daniel's stories and research; best part of the review
First comment. have watched you guys for the past year and will do a class next October. I originally was going into wine making but was bitten by the whiskey bug and am starting toward distilling instead.
Thank you guys for the great content, laughs and stories, Cheers
Not bad format change. Still a little rough, but there's some promise there. Kind of wondering where answering comments/questions would fit in though.
I like the format, but I need some nice high-back leather chairs for you guys to sit in.
Since you have experimented with water and ice. Maybe see where the tastes go if the whiskey is warmer then room temp?
I'm digging the new format of giving "blind" tasting notes
yes, they do make counter top ice machines. My buddy has one, he fills it with spring water. it's awesome. ALSO! I know you guys have Wholes Foods there, they have awesome whiskey ice. big cocktail cubes.
You guys should ABSOLUTELY sell your whiskey with them in a tube sock like that!
Excited to see how much you guys enjoyed Ed. 4. Didn’t even realize it was out yet. In the past editions the blend was guided by “chefs” was it not? Maybe just edition 2? Is it okay to love Rex but fear/loathe the Dark Mooch?
Have to try Angel’s Envy Rye with ice on the nose you get straight maple syrup.
Hey
I’m new to the world of Whisk(e)y. I love the show and have purchased bourbon off of your recommendations. I have already acquired a small collection in the few weeks. This is Jarrold coming from Buffalo, NY. Go bills!!!!
How clean was that ice? Those earthy tones might not be coming from the whisky
I really liked the angle of the story time scenes. so it would be really cool if you guys made a set like the one you have i the whiskey tribe video "How to start a whiskey distillery like a magnificent bastard ". two chairs and one table in the middle. you could even review the whiskey there.
Yeah bringing back the tubesock!!
I enjoy the stories, I also enjoy getting right into the whisk(e)y.
Rex: "I love how that wood flung itself out right in front of our faces" ;)
This is the way all of your whisk(e)y should be reviewed! Rex you mad genius!!!! This is by far in the top ten videos
Yes! I totally agree
The Spirit Monk[e]y is pleased with Daniel's hobbit laugh.
Yes! Macallan is one of my favorites.
Could you do Whistle Pig? I have a bottle unopened. Looking for the inspiration to crack the seal.

Got to try a glass of this at a friend's. Really makes me wish they bottles their 12 yo at 45-50%
Yes more stories please !
Keep Rex in charge! Except the advent calendar. Daniel can keep doing that.
These need to be interactive. Ladies and gents, a shopping list for the episodes next week. Please drink along with us as we plumb the depths...
Guys, this is effing gorgeous!!! I love this stuff!
Like a lot the new Format and Loved the story!!!
loving it!.....More more more more!!! There’s something different going on with the lighting coming off the bottles...
Interesting change with the new camera. I actually noticed a difference just from looking at the thumbnail picture for the video.
Rex Month is going so well, maybe we need to move this to Rex Year? I enjoy the banter between you two. The changing it up has been amazing! Not knowing what to expect each day has made this a lot of fun.
could take or leave the sitting piece, but definitely like the stress on actually talking about and testing variations on drinking the whiskey
Hey guys... Could you review Oban Little Bay please?
Do A Review on Glenturret #10 Plz
I'm a beer snob and proud of it. But after watching these videos I'm planning on going to my first whiskey distillery.
Beer nerd...yes it rolls off the tongue and is pleasant to the ears. I like it lol
new format is great, water is welcome, ice is nice but not necessary, comparisons will be easy, this is easy for you, i hope the final stretch of rex month is a real mooching
eh. Change Bad, sock whisk[e]y good, making the Somm uncomfortable priceless. Cheers
Rex year?
Can you guys review Blackened Whiskey please!?
I really like this format! Keep playing around with it!
I love how you’ve decided that after more than a year of videos, it was time to become whisky reviewers, lol... it’s good though! Ice shouldn’t be mandatory to the review though... maybe a conditional modifier when you find something that you think might go good on ice. I'm in lake jackson tx and would like to come and have a drink.
"and you can have all of that". I'm still laughing at that.
I like the new format. Or maybe I just like that you changed it up a bit :D
Iffy on the ice part. I understand it adds completeness to the review from some peoples perspective. However, if most experiences are similar to this, it may just be a waste of good whisk(e)y in the end :)

Review Royal Lochnagar!
Love the Chair has to stay
One was good. Number 2 was amazing. Number 3 had a great nose but not great flavor and number 4 is amazing once you add water.
Rex promised everyone he had a plan at the beginning and i cant help but wonder if at this point he has either changed him mind , he forgot, or if he said screw it its to much work.
Cool changes, but I would only experiment with ice in 1 glass, don't waste 2.
Love the new format!
Nice tube sock real classy
New top 10 episode. 10 best whiskey to drink with ice!
Ok .......enjoyed the tastings prior to story time, but need to do the sit down story time in the new distillery’s lounge space you built!!!!
I am one of those conflicted viewers! I do love Rex, and I am really enjoying how #RexMonth is progressing... but every video, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop
Story time with rex ???
Break out the schlitz malt liquor on him, Rex 😂
I love Sit Down Story Time.
It doesn't even feel like Rexmonth! But I will say, at the old level of shenanigans, lasting a whole month would be a bit hard to take.
Can you guys please do a side by side review of all of the Macallan Editions 1-4? Im curious to see what you both think of them when tasted next to each other. Love your channel. PS Longmorn 16 wins every time!
I like storytime. It's like being a kid but with an age-suitable topic!
Ice in a glencairn? Madness
i could honestly do for a whole new series of sit down story time tale telling
Hey, thanks for the video. I was wondering if someone would help me out with picking some gift whiskey for my friend. I know that he likes dewers white label. I kinda want to upgrade him for the sake of his birthday. Any recommendations 40$ or under.

Generosity? Not tax deduction?
