      I don't get this. Every location of interest in every Bethesda game was segmented by loading screens. Every house/cave/town/city/dungeon etc. This game is no different but people are losing their minds over it.
      You can go from a planet's surface to a specific location on another planet in another system in a single loading screen if you want to.

      @@emarskineel Because No Man's Sky demonstrated that you COULD do seamless spaceflight. Elite Dangerous did it too. If Bethesda released Skyrim today, the game would get smashed with negative reviews because the standard has shifted from needing loading screens at every door to needing them basically never.
      Hell, Subnautica (another indie game), managed a densely packed open world RPG experience with basically zero hard loading screens. Using a teleporter is a loading screen, but they don't show up until the end of the game.

    • @raven_glass
      @raven_glass ปีที่แล้ว +50

      @@emarskineel Because you didn't have to fast travel. In Skyrim you couldn't fast travel to the next city, instead you had to walk there and while walking there you could run into interesting things. You would see ruins on the side of the road that led to new quests and interesting experiences. NPCs would walk up to you and say interesting things. If you found a Dragon Wall it could be guarded by some kind of interesting monster, or bandit, or dragon, or undead. It made you feel like you were really there and unexpected things could happen to you. In Starfield, you fast travel to a planet from a menu, nothing unexpected happens. Maybe you fight a few pirates. Then you fast travel to near your destination. Planet is procedurally generated so there's nothing interesting to find there outside of the one place you intended to go. If you go to a temple, there is no one guarding it at all. There is no exploration, no discovery, no sense of wonder.

      @@emarskineel The issue is that it's not 2001 anymore. What was acceptable decades ago isn't always acceptable today. Other games manage this and people have experienced how much better the game is if there isn't a static image of a sweet roll every 15 to 30 seconds of gameplay, so they're no longer willing to shrug it off.
      This is like asking why people are mad if a car in 1980 can't drive backwards. The first Ford didn't go backwards and people were fine with it!

Or perhaps beholding a YTer finding one and being able to reach it yourself. Static world would make all these findings shareable. And if you have over a 1000 of unique planets it's not a problem at all. But since the planets are pretty much vapid and POIs are boring the approach taken does not matter at all.

    -enemies are damage sponges
    -all named characters are immortal until the plot/quest says it’s ok to kill them

      Some enemies are undeniably bullet sponges. Depending on difficulty they aren't so bad. But you get better loot on very hard and grinding for loot is one of the only things keeping some people hooked. So for most people bullet sponge enemies is a problem, and trying to dismiss it by saying 'headshots' isn't a good argument at all. You might as well say ' bro grind out all relevant crit skills and weapon skills, then craft top tier mods on a strong weapon with good perks on it and shoot enemies in the head and then you won't have a problem with bullet sponge enemies.' None of that changes the fact that some enemies are bullet sponges.

      That's a real experience of bethesda games. count how many loading screens that was. also don't forget that load times are tide to frame rate, but if you uncap it to load faster it breaks the physics and ai of some NPCs unless you slap a mod that fixes it. and even after that load times will be around 20-40 seconds if your PC is good. on mid to low end devices it can take anywhere up to 2 minutes. hell the pop-ins are also a concern that can break the game. @@rishyrish Yes, but those walls marked the end of the whole open world. There were no walls inside that world. You could travel from one side to the other seamlessly. You can't travel seamlessly between the split worlds in Starfield. They aren't one huge handcrafted open world. They are "tiles", split worlds that are not connected to each other and that can't be traversed seamlessly. Most of them are also pretty empty. I explored one such "tile" on one of the procedurally generated planets, and there were only 2 POI on it. 2. And the whole area was probably almost as big as Skyrims whole map. It was a barren rocky wasteland with just 2 POI on such a huge map. Exploration clearly wasn't the focus in this game. Those planets just exist for resource grinding. That's not why I play BGS games. Their games always were famous for exploration. Roam around the open world and explore one POI after the other. Totally forget about your current quest objective, because you just came across a cave. Or a camp. Or a ruin. And you want to explore it. And the one after it. And at some point hours have passed and you suddenly remember there was a quest you had to do. Thats not happening in Starfield.

    Bethesda made the Creation Engine in 2006 for Oblivion where it was actually ahead of it's time, but then they somehow fundamentally broke it when they tried to patch it for Skyrim, and they've been reusing the same fundementaly broken version of Creation Engine for every game since, INCLUDING trying to patch it for use in a MMO and we all saw how well that worked out..
    I am certain they will use the SAME engine for Elder Scrolls 6 as well.

    • @_Ekaros
      @_Ekaros ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly think they are stuck at this point.
      Either they need to rewrite it entirely and not just update parts. Or take something like Unreal and lose the mod-scene...

    • @leafonhead777
      @leafonhead777 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@_Ekaros Well that's sort of the point though right?
      It's been enough time for them to build another Engine and try to future proof it to some degree.
      Technology of game engines has come SOO far in the last 15 years it's mind blowing! Continuously trying to patch a Engine from 2008 to bring it up to 2023 standards is kind of insane!
      I agree they cannot afford to lose the modding community, the modding community does a TON of leg work in fixing issues and patching their games, not to mention the longevity mods add to a game.
      Maybe they're working on a new Engine, but to me the fact that Starfield released as is suggests they determined that Creation Engine is sufficient for their modern games into the foreseeable future.

The fact that they gave review codes only on handpicked outlets, lied through their teeth with the marketing, and pulled this crap with the early access shows you that once in the future Microsoft buys the whole industry the quality of the games will be just like the quality of current marvel movies.
