I just finished it on PC and had a save file before doing this mission so did it both ways. I think the "canon" ending is that Jin actually spares him because thats what him as a ghost would feel right. There is no wrong or right decision at the end. Sparing Shimura would be what Jin stands for, but it would shame and dishonor Shimura for the rest of his life, something that Jin cannot accept for his father-figure. So honoring his wish for a warriors death is him giving his life purpose dying for honor. And also a statement from Jin that that era is ending.
Despite the sad moment, it was the right choice. Lord Shimura is a man of honor and commitment, loyal to the shogun who ordered the Ghost's death. Most of all, he is samurai. A warrior's death is the greatest honor you can give him at this point. Had Lord Shimura survived, he would either be forced to go into exile and bear the marks of his failure on his soul, and the disappointment at his inability to make Jin his heir would weigh heavy on him, perhaps enough he would commit Seppuku. On the other hand, the shogun may order Lord Shimura's death for his failure instead, either way would mean death for him. Worst of all, Tsushima is just recovering from an invasion, with Lord Shimura exiled or taken in for execution the remaining samurai lords would turn to in-fighting like they have done so before in order to full the power vacuum. Lord Shimura was the force that kept them in check, and the last thing Tsushima needs is a civil war. What it needed was a peaceful transition of power, as he dies by Jin's hands, it will be Jin carrying this emotional scar with him forever - I think this is a fitting punishment for Jin abandoning the Warrior Code.
Did you know in that era after the mongols attacked, a younger generation of samurai who thought that protecting the people was more important than obeying their lords and shogunate, and the older generation of samurai still believed that samurai are to obey their lords at all cost. This clash caused the downfall of the shogun at the time
Wow! I had no idea! That's fascinating. I love to read and have been trying to read a lot more non-fiction this year, I should pick up a book on the Shogunate and that era of Japan because I really would love to learn a lot more about it
Absolutely incredible game! Then a couple weeks later I got to the ending and i had to sit and think for about five minutes on what my decision would be. In the end I decided to give him his honorable death since I figured jin would be fine destroying his own personal honor but not that of the people he cares about. He wouldn’t take that from them. But when that scream happened……and then the credits rolled I was tearing up pretty bad. Then I had to just sit in my chair and think for a bit and thank all of the names in the credits for making a piece of art like this. It’s truly amazing even four years later, this one is going to go down in history mark my words…….I need a drink now after reliving this with you lol
Late to the party but this was a great playthrough. I especially liked your rational of choosing your ending. Well thought out and you articulated it well. Tbh many westerners choose to spare saying the ghost has no honor so he wouldn't do anything honorable anymore. A very black/white way of thinking, which is the exact failing of the samurai code of honor so I find it ironic. Not saying it's a bad choice, but people's reasoning for choosing it seems flawed.
If you think about it, lord shimura is dead either way. There's no way the shogun would allow him to live after he failed to kill Jin. At least if Jin kills him, he dies with his honor intact
@renwraiths been hearing rumors that it is happening, but, a movie adaptation is coming too! And, the same guy who directed the John Wick movies, will be directing Ghost Of Tsushima 🙂
Historically, there have been two Mongol invasions of Tsushima (1274 and 1281), so I think the sequel to GoT will be about the second Mongol invasion. It seems that Hiroyuki Sanada will appear as Shimura in the movie.
Jin and Shimura, they represent different sides of a coin (you got it, great insight) and cannot be at the same time. They always represented in two different colors in their attire (Jin black and Shimura white), even in their last fight Leaves from trees don't mix + they throw their Katana sheathe, both of them didn't expect to make it out alive. Keeping Shimura alive would meant, they would have to be at each other's throat for the rest of their remaining lives, which means Jin would never attain peace, all his sacrifices would be in vain. Killing Shimura concludes Jin's story. (My insight)
Interesting insight. So you think that Lord Shimura could still be going after Jin even after being spared? I could see that being the case when his uncle stated: "The Ghost will be hunted for the rest of his days."
@@jirehbochung5983 Mostly likely, Jin broke samurai's code (bushido) not because he's disobeying Shimura (metaphorically). So, to prove it.. Jin must show he accepts and loves Shimura as his father. I just finished the story today. I didn't kill Shimura. To me, dishonoring Shimura was the right choice. Jin was right to say that Shimura is a slave to his honor, in the way that he was willing to throw away countless lives to do things the "honorable" way against the Khan. Where is the honor in sacrificing other people? I feel like Shimura is so blinded by duty and honor that he lost sense of what was truly best for his people, and in his rigidity, was ready to give everything for an inevitable loss to the Khan, and doom the entire island of Tsushima in the name of honor. To me, that blindness that Shimura demonstrated gave me reason to let him live with his regrets and failings, and watch Jin walk away and truly become the Ghost of legend.
there is purpose for the flute in martial arts , in the simplest beginning it teaches you how to breath ;) the best games are the ones with Story the ending was Honorable and the best way it could have ended in Love there will always be pain at times this is part of the lesson of love it is to bad there are so many half decent games that are only console which my large hand and controllers dont get along . the thing about the real Samurai is that more then not there were very few nice things about them they were brutal, savage ,raped people pillaged villages killed Children so that the survivors couldn't grow up to avenge what happened, and those are the nocer things that they did. these types of story's romanticize clean up the way they truly were, but those times were much different then compared to now , the stories we mostly see and hear about are similar to the way the Grimm tales that Disney adapted them to have happier and cleaner but the original were much darker and different. the honor like you mentioned maybe by mistake is\ was a personal perception the honor of one can be much different to another.
Buddy, if you really think about it, it's not about honor it's about family screw with the shogun in the rest of the samurai want, this is about jin and his uncle. You could have spared him. Yes, it would have been an act of defiance. In the eyes of both the uncle and the shogan, but when it comes down to it, who cares?

Instead of arguing about which ending was the best, just play the game twice and end this debate. Personally I killed him the first time for two main reasons, 1st, Shimura was way too selfish and didn't care about his people, his obsession was only the stupid code, that's not how true leaders act, 2nd? White dye of course. Red one looks ugly as hell, i got it in the second playthrough though, both ends seem good, its up to you to choose, me personally, I would have killed him again and again, his obsession over the shogunate was annoying as hell. Jin lost everything for his people and never looked back
Why re u crying, girl ? U said "I don't want to kill him" but u chose it while there re 2 ending and u could ve chosen the better one. And I gotta tell u, spare Shimura is the best ending.

Blud came here years later to cry abt that 😂 No, the spare ending isn’t fitting for Jin, he says „i have no honor BUT“ meaning he isn’t completely honorless 😂 and after that shimura ends himself, wow such a better ending 🤦🏻♂️ killing him is way better, it shows how honorless he became, he gets shit done, shimura doesnt have to lamely end himself also after killing shimura he gets the white ghost outfit not the confusing red one. Meaining he truly is the ghost now and only in that ending
@@JuloBaba there was never a conclusion to what happened to shimura after you spare him lol. why you lying. it is to bad there are so many half decent games that are only console which my large hand and controllers dont get along .
the thing about the real Samurai is that more then not there were very few nice things about them they were brutal, savage ,raped people pillaged villages killed Children so that the survivors couldn't grow up to avenge what happened, and those are the nocer things that they did. these types of story's romanticize clean up the way they truly were, but those times were much different then compared to now , the stories we mostly see and hear about are similar to the way the Grimm tales that Disney adapted them to have happier and cleaner but the original were much darker and different.
the honor like you mentioned maybe by mistake is\ was a personal perception the honor of one can be much different to another.
I spared him 😭
I just avenged my horse and break this idle talk of honor ,Congratulations on the game play, it played very well, but if you were moved by this game, play days gone
I wanna play Days Gone SO badly!! If you (or anyone else reading this) have any recs you'd like to see on the channel or just generally think I might like, feel free to fill out my game recs form!
@@renwraiths because play days gone girl, if you are moved by the story, I'm sure you'll love this game
Hey! I subbed because I found you're crying cute. You repeatedly said that you didnt want to but still did it! haha.. scary. Btw, I didnt kill him. I just couldn't.
Jin should get married with Yuna
Stop shedding crocodile tears I watched every woman killed him and almost every men spared him.
Jin lost everything for his people and never looked back
😂😂😂
m also a youtuber can we play togather
Why re u crying, girl ? U said "I don't want to kill him" but u chose it while there re 2 ending and u could ve chosen the better one. And I gotta tell u, spare Shimura is the best ending.
nah, kill ending hits harder and suits Jin's character more imo
@@goglergay Nah, spare ending suits Jin character more. He chose to be the ghost and lost his honor. He even claimed that he has no honor but he would never kill his family.
@@TúNguyễn-t8n1w he got his dad killed on iki island
Jin has been throwing his honor to save lives. he's not gonna care about honor and give shimura a warrior's death because he's the ghost. You can literally see "Honor his wish for death" in the Kill option and you're here saying killing him shows Jin is Honorless lol. you have no idea what you're talking about.
Even Daisuke Tsuji, Jin's voice actor spare shimura and said killing him is not in Jin's character
Playing it in English? You did it wrong 😑
Fakest reaction i ever saw😂
lmao ok! hope you get far in life being mean!
@renwraiths honestly tho. The crying seems very forced and fake. No one is being mean. I am simply expressing my opinion
Expressing an opinion doesn't negate you being mean beloved. The idea that "well i'm just being honest" to hide behind the facade of unkindness isn't going to do you many favours. Think it's fake if you want my dude, there's plenty of people here who felt similarly to me at the end of this game that I can enjoy it with that aren't you. Your negative engagement is still engagement regardless, the only reason your comment isn't just getting deleted and you blocked is because you get to be today's lesson that this world needs a lot more kindness and empathy. Hopefully next time you see something you don't vibe with you reflect and ask whether or not your words make the internet a better, nicer place than you found it. Hope you have a better day tomorrow! 💛
@@ShadowReborn03damn bro she kinda cooked you lol
Why didn't you spare him
I don’t think there was a wrong or right ending but when I played I let him live bc I kinda felt like Jin would have stuck to his own ideals in that situation as he did through the game and let him live, even if it went against his wishes for an honorable death. But I can understand the justification for killing him too. The ending to this game is so good man.
Also I usually never get plat when I play games but this one was so good I just had to. I’m so glad you enjoyed the game and watching you be so invested in the story was really enjoyable. Im pretty hyped for you to start Iki Island so yk I had to turn on post notifs 🫡
A friend of mine chose the same thing you did for the same reason and I was soooo torn on choosing that! I’m so glad we got a choice. Maybe I’ll do a NG+ run and choose the other option 💔
Thank you SO much for watching, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed my play through. It means a lot to me to have you here and I’m super excited to tackle Iki Island! Your support is very appreciated! 🫡😊
