Just found this video. Really enjoyed it mate. I still shed a little tear thinking of my LC GTR XU1 I sold in the 80s for 4 grand.

Great video. My very first car was a 1968 HB Torana SL which I got in 1975. It was actually a really nice little car but with no power to speak of but it could be rowed along nicely with the 4 speed. I sold it to buy 1977 LX SL/R Torana in 1979. It was only the 3300 six and I really wanted a V8 but insurance at the time for a young guy was through the roof. The 3300 was pretty lethargic as it was the first of the pollution control engines but a bit of tweaking to the head and some exhaust work liberated some more power. I eventually traded it on a 4.2 litre 4 speed V8 VH Commodore in 1983. I still kick myself for that as I should have kept the SL/R Torana and slotted in a 5 litre V8.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm always interested to hear other peoples car stories.
      Glad you enjoyed it.

I think we should build the next torana, it's time to start building all it take is a mass of car enthusiasts,Holden Enthusiasts to get together and get the ball rolling, bring back the aussie car and make it a world beater.we have the resources and the brain power all we need is to make it happen. lets start with a team of designers, engineers and draftsmen, any volunteers?

Well done guys, A few suggestions for the next cars as unpopular as they may be. The Mini's would be one maybe just the modern Mini, also the 200 series Volvo's. That 240 Turbo at Bathurst was awesome. The Flying Brick as it was known.

Nice job mate, a lot of work gone into that with all the editing, I’m a Holden fan, i have a Torana my self. Could do one on the Holden GTS. Not holding a mic would be better, but other wise great job 👍

Funny, I never owned a Torana but I traveled the country with a trailer I made using HB suspension.
And much to the horror, I'm sure, of Holden lovers ... a jacked up XW ute with a canopy using a Torana hatchback 😳

That would definitely ruffle some feathers.

Great video and love the info, as I'm not much of a Holden car nut, I enjoyed learning about the vehicle. As far as feedback, get rid of the mike. Can't wait for the next video.

This is a wonderful walk down memory lane! I had a Torana and it is the best car I have ever owned. Is it true that Torana is an indigenous word? I've heard that it means "to fly", what a wonderful thought.

Thanks Peter, I'm glad to hear that. Yes I believe torana is the indigenous word meaning "to fly", its a pretty cool name.

I think you need to review & edit your comment about being able to buy an A9X in 1977 for $2,600

The only thing is your specs are wrong, for instance the LC four potters also included a 1600 ohc, the six cylinder started with the basic 138 ci ( 2250) note the same capacity as the old grey sideplater, then the option of a 161 ci ( 2600 and the last handful had the 173 or 2850, more on this later) and you are also very wrong on the LC GTR as they came out with first with the 161 ci six and there was never Twin carbs from the show room floor as they had a WW dual Throat stromberg only and with a mild cam and cast iron headers, yes they did have the 173 ci with these same additions but only on last few LC’s before the LJ and the only reason for this was as I remember when I worked for a major Holden dealer in Perth at the time was because Holden simply ran out of 161 ci engines so had to use the Coming LJ’s larger 173 engines in the short period before release but as I owned an LC GTR back in the 70’s the one big problem it had was it’s Poxy weak as piss Opel 4 speed gearbox otherwise it was pretty good, seeing you’re supposed to be talking about all of the Toranas , the LJ ‘s started also with the pissy Vauxhall fours of 1200 cc and the 1600 ohc ones were increased to 1750 cc, these were not a good engine and I think you would be going to find an OHC Torana around these days this engine was the same as the four cylinder units in the basic CF Bedford vans, the 3300’s or 202’s in bog standard form was the fitment in the LJ GTR’s with zero modifications but of course was in performance tune in the X-U1’s with their larger 175 CD strombergs over the 250 CD’s in the 186 LC-XU1’s

    • @jamesgovett3225
      @jamesgovett3225 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Should read 150 CD strombergs in the LC 186 X-U1’s, not 250

I'm sure folks remember the Torana TT36 displayed at various carshows in 2004,if my memory is correct.
A tragedy they never built it,for I think Holden would have been on a winner.
Rumour was they wanted to, tho were prevented by Detroit HQ...miserable, clueless fools as they consistently showed themselves to be.
So many lost opportunities due to HQ ineptitude.

Hey, thanks again for watching the Torana video and commenting.
It has been a while between video's, which makes it hard to get traction.
My new video is based on the story of the LFA. I hope you enjoy it! th-cam.com/video/-y8ntGMPpt8/w-d-xo.html

You didn't mention the worst Torana ever the TA Torana. Also didn't mention the A9X came with RTS,4 wheel disc brakes ( the front biiger discs from the HZ Holden), I think in camewith a much better T10 gearbox and a Salisbury diff
