Derek's into Ali Akhbar Khan? Easily one of the grestest musicians in the world when he was alive. I was lucky enough to see him live in Austin in the late 90s. Now that I know this fact, I seem to notice some of his influence in Derek's playing.

Derek is much much more than JUST a blues player. He brings those roots to everything he plays but you haven't listened to much Coltrane if you can't hear him in Derek's playing. He may not quote him directly but its spiritual to Derek much like Coltrane.
