Have to admit AILD has been a top favorite for years for me. May I suggest a few songs? Shaped By Fire, Through Struggle, 94 Hours, Redefined, just to name a few.
Also if I may suggest a band called The Amity Affliction? Songs: I Hate Hartley, Youngbloods, Open Letter, Pittsburgh (again just to name a few)

Honestly you could just react to the entire “An Ocean Between Us” album. The whole thing is just straight flames. In my opinion it’s just one of the most solid metal albums ever written.

halo0009 so many damn iconic guitar riffs on that album it’s nuts. I have to say technically speaking I consider awakened to be their best album. I guess doesn’t necessarily mean it’s my favorite lol, I love everything they put out. And each album is great in their own way. But yeah shadows are security has a special place in my heart

Lead singer started doing steroids, then tried to hire an undercover cop to kill his wife. Of course a prison sentence followed and this song was written after his release. He seems to have accepted responsibility for his actions and has been doing a lot try to atone. The lyric, "buried alive inside my own grave and there's no one else to blame" causes chills down my spine. This song is literally a confession and repentance for some severely evil actions. I tear up listening to it.
The entire shaped by fire. You can feel his pain and regret on every single song
A lot of people didn’t wanna give him another chance. I was pretty quick to forgive. I planned on giving him another chance when he was in jail. I said to myself I bet while he’s in there thinking a lot about everything, he’s gonna come out a better person. Then he was released and released that big apology. And I read that a lot of people were saying he’s not changed blah blah blah. Now look how far he’s come, he’s come a long way. Everyone deserves a second chance, because we’re only human. We all make mistakes and some make mistakes that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Tim’s real prison sentence is that he has to live with his past choice for the rest of his life. Some day he didn’t do enough time, I think he did more than enough. Just cause your Christian, doesn’t mean you can’t get lost and fall from grace from time to time. I get lost and lose my way a lot, I’m still slowly trying to find my way back to Christ.

You mean after this? Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison for plotting to kill his wife back in 2014. He was sentenced after pleading guilty to paying a police officer posing as a hitman $1,000 (£630) to kill his then wife, Meggan Lambesis.

What he did was horrible yes, but that does not mean he did not have his own struggles. He served his time for what he did and he isnt the same anymore. Everyone deserves a second chance (to a degree).

Those "Harmonies" lol...yeah...they've been doing them for years, and are part of the reason why (idgaf what genre) just about most bands have harmonies like that nowadays. AILD inspired a ton of bands and idgaf what anyone says.

The story behind the song is pretty interesting too, the lead singer did quite some time in jail for attempting to kill his own wife. Fortunately, he failed. This song is something like a reflection on how evil, stupid and wrong he had been, and how he ruined his own life through his own malice.

Tim, the frontman, was arrested for the attempt of hiring a hitman towards his wife. All due to his rage influenced by emotion, environment, steroids, and other various components in his life that many of us aren't exposed to. So when As I Lay Dying came back, after Tim got out of jail, this song was the rebirth to the band. I looked up to Tim as a vocalist since 2003 when I first heard BEHIND ME LIES ANOTHER FALLEN SOLDIER. Its what got me into "metal", it broke me down because it made me think of my friend Matt who was my idol/an older brother to me when I moved to Seattle. We skated, took the bus downtown with his crew, and he accepted me for some weird reason. Even though the lyrics have a different meaning to how I felt. The instrumentals and melody of the throats get me every. damn. time.
