Very informative, I have played this game since it’s early release on steam, and have to say getting my data back has always been a hassle. Thank you for the EXTREMELY simple video👍
I've spent 3 days trying to restore a cloud save. I've searched, i've read, i've copied, i've renamed, i've pasted, i've rinsed, i've repeated. I am an idiot. Thankyou DrewOfAnders. 60 seconds after watching your clip, i'm back.
You're not an idiot. Don't beat yourself up so much, and take a breather once in a while. The fact that you didn't give up for 3 days is proof that you're not stupid.
How hard was it for them to show the timestamps of the most recent save and previous save (the .old file I assume). The newly added SAVE button does not create a save with a timestamp. I guess they've designed it this way to make it awkward for players to roll back and rather just accept there building mistakes and/or deaths (with skill losses). I kinda get their methodology because it means you are more likely to play and accept your choices but now there is a save system by THEIR choice then it should at least be easy and intuitive to use instead of the shambles it is. Thanks for posting anyway!! MY WORKAROUND: On systems where you can have local and cloud saves (sadly this excludes Series X, etc). On my Windows Game Pass version, if Im about to do a risky building terraforming project that could go wrong (Im crap with a hoe) or Im about to enter new dangerous territory and don't wanna roll back 5% of all skills upon death I: 1) Save and log out to menu 2) Click on the Manage Saves button 3) On both character AND World saves I click on "Move to Local" then after a few seconds click "Move to Cloud". This makes a local TIMESTAMPED save on your device of both your world and character saves. 4) In the event of something going wrong and you need to revert just revert backups to the latest timestamp. It stops you playing blind and reverting to an autosave that you have no idea when the autosave occurred lol NOTE: I use the local save option because you can have an audit trail of unlimited local saves whereas with Cloud saves you are limited to 10 saves (available if you change from the default of 4). But some may prefer to play on a local saves and backup to cloud but I find this a bit cumbersome....your choice though. Hopefully this helps some. Sorry for the essay!
I read the essay, I don't know about anything for the saves that is not on steam but, I think with the local saves and cloud saves there might be a way to duplicate items. Although, if you're gonna test it out you may want to do it on a world and character you don't care about.
@@DrewOfAnders Thanks for replying. I did have a duplicate items once when my son joined my world and no idea how we did it. I was trying to show a way without duplicating but tbh I hardly ever revert and when I do I revert BOTH character and world to the same timestamp (within a few seconds of each other). I would imagine the timestamps are on Steam also. On Game Pass the long numbers on each save are in yymmdd format followed by the time in 24 hrs format
It's weird that your items duplicated when your son joined but it could be that the game loaded an older world and a newer character from the cloud or vise versa.
I accidently restored a backup over my most recent save and lost like 12 hours of building a base with a giant forgary and dock. I think im pretty screwed with getting it back
Damn, that's not good. If that happened to me, I would've taken a break from the game because I would lose the motivation to play for a while. There's also a new save button in the menu that allows you to do a backup save manually.
When i die in this game i am in my Camp and have lost everything. What happen to my save . If i sail to another Island with this map and sleep in a new spawn in bed how in the hell am a gonna find Home.i was running around like an idiot for nearly 2 ourhs Yesterday trying to find Home. Had to kill my self in the end and loose everything . Dont thing i understand why we dont have a proper map.
That's something I noticed when I loaded up my world after it didn't save on the cloud but, for me it loaded structures in different spots. I don't have the gamepass version of the game so, I'm sorry but I don't know how to help with this other than what I covered in the video. It is strange your backup saves didn't save your structures because they should be all in the same spot as when you first loaded up the world.
I got the world seed back, but my builds wasn't there - Perhaps it's because I landed with another character before the original one. Do you know anything about this? Dang, so I look elsewhere xD
I don't know how to do that and you can use my seed in the video but I don't think it'll be the same world as mine because mine was created a few updates ago.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, BEST VIDEO EVER ON YT CREATED. ITS SHORT, CONTAINS THE INFO I NEED, AND SIMPLE EXPLAINED. GJ!
You're welcome I'm glad you liked the video.

I bet I know I would be too.

each backup save ended up having 0 structures on the pc version of valheim on gamepass

I don’t have gamepass for it… just found out today Valheim was released on Xbox??

you're welcome, but I'm straight so I can't help you there.

@DanishGamingFlip I had this issue, too. You'll just have to load an older save, I believe
