    By the way...If you're in the UK, and you're thinking of buying a Sage machine (any Sage machine, not only their coffee machines), join my mailing list at coffeeblog.co.uk and then drop me an email to see if I have a current discount code to share. I don't currently get Breville discounts, sorry, but I do sometimes have Sage Appliances UK discount codes to share.

    Great video, thanks a lot and for all previous vids as well.
    After watching your channel got better idea of what sort of coffee machine I want (was going to get Baristar Touch, but budget said NO) and finally become proud owner of Barista Pro (wife and kids bought as a birthday present) also have Bambino Plus - nice beast but getting replaced right now due to some mulfunction. So far I'm happy with Pro - really good coffe machine, still learning how to get best shots but definitely recommend it to all.

    @Coffee_Kev am I the only one thinking the water tank at the back is badly positioned for the majority of kitchens, compared to machines that have addressed this by putitng them on the side? Most of us will put these machines against the wall, and also have cupboards above that restrict access to fill from the top.

    I think the Express will hold up better than the Pro. More electronics with the lcd screen that can brake in the Pro. High risk in a humid/hot/wet environment.

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Turre, yeah I suppose the LCD is one more thing to potentially go down, I can see where you're coming from, although re the hi risk due to humidity and heat, I'm sure they'll have designed around this, Breville/Sage know what they're doing.

    I'm at the point of deciding between BE and Pro ..... one on-line forum said the Thermojet system was causing problems with milk steaming .... it was passing pulses of water, and spoiled the chance of getting good milk foam. Have you compared the actual milk steaming action, is it different on the PRO ?

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Michael. It just depends on your perspective. Overall, I prefer the pro over the express, I really like the features of the LCD, including the shot timer, and I like the fact that the steam is ready so much quicker, and that it steams quicker.
      But then, the express is cheaper - and also, something I didn't mention in the video as I wasn't aware of this until I spoke to an engineer recently - in theory, the newer heating system on the pro is more prone to scale issues (as the space inside the coil is very small), so descaling is possibly more important, or using good quality or filtered water if you're in a hard water area.
      Cheers

  • @Californification
    @Californification 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks. Just got the pro and was wondering if a pressure gauge is a must. This answers it. You mentioned that the shot timing kinda tells you where the grind needs to be instead of using a pressure gauge. That makes sense. However my question is on what is the use manual modes then? Say your grind is too coarse using the auto 2 shot and the machine stops extracting at 15 seconds from first pour, if you manually extended that to 25 seconds vs going with a finer grind that kinda defeats the purpose of a good shot. So why have a manual mode? In summary would you recommend sticking only with the auto modes? Thanks

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ricky, apologies for the delayed reply.
      The idea is to get to your desired ratio in a specified window, so if you're following the 25-30 second shot time and a 1:2 extraction, you'd be aiming to pull a 38g (ish) shot from 19g of coffee in a flow rate of 25-30 seconds, whether you get to this point manually or via the buttons doesn't matter. Cheers, Kev.

  • @louisd95714
    @louisd95714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a great comparison. I believe the only thing that was left out is that the BBP delivers 9 bars of pressure at the group head where the BBE does not. The only way to duplicate this would be to install an OTP mod on the BBE. Between these two, I chose the BBP and so far am very happy with it.

    Hello, I have been following you for a while and have enjoyed and learned from your espresso machine reviews. I have a question for determining which of these espresso machines I am going to buy. You mentioned that the Pro’s cup warmer doesn’t warm up as much as the Espress’. I imagined that that also goes with the group head. If so, would you say that the Espress’ espressos are a little better since hot group heads are important for good espressos. Hope you still check on the comments from this review. Thank you for any info on the subject

    Hi, have you heard of any grinding issues with the Pro. I have had one for a year that worked perfectly, until grinder broke. I have been sent two replacements machines so far (can't fault customer service) but out the box both are only grinding 11-12.5 gram in the 13 sec grind. I have to grind for close to 20 secs to get the required 20 grams. The grinder is able to grind finer etc and I can dial it in but the time it takes to grind is miles off my original machine or what sage quote as approx times for a double shot.

      @Coffee_Kev  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback. "Better" is a very subjective term. My favourite, and I think I make this obvious in the video but apologies if not, is the pro, mainly because I really like the shot timer and the other stuff the display brings such as easier routes to changing brew temp, programming shot buttons etc, and also for the slightly faster steam ready time, steaming time, and the faster shot ready time after steaming milk.
      There are potentially things that are "better" about the express too though, it's cheaper, it'll produce almost the same in terms of shot quality, it has a pressure gauge, so it what is better for you depends on your specific perspective. Cheers, Kev.
