Calgary has been denied a lot of major shows because of that. Top tier musicians & such with pyrotechnics and other fancy displays skip Calgary because our arena roof is too low for their show.
I've heard from one of my friends who lives in calgary that the saddledome is one of the main reasons Calgary has the least visits from bands or any events/concerts. I believe the main reason for this is that the odd shaped roof just does not make sounds travel well, and the sounds are basically dampened. so calgary would be skipped over, and edmonton got more concerts. Sadly, the dome is getting replaced and demolished. i would suggest everyone visit the dome while they can they've begun construction or preparations for a new arena to be opened in maybe the next 5 years (i don't know exactly).
This is not true, the designers name was Ron Rempe. he’s Matt Rempe who plays for the New York rangers dad. He explained it to me once, the shape is all about dealing with deflection? along the giant outside steel beam ? I wasn’t sure what he was talking about but that’s what determined the shape.
as a kid i always imagined sliding down the roof of the saddledome. not sure what i thought would happen when i got to the edge, but it seemed fun in my head
@@grimsyy id rather sit in press level than front row any day, you can see everything from up there and the crowd is a million times more lively than the rich douches sitting in lower bowl
I just did a tour last night lol 😂😂😂😂 It was also made so that they did not need to heat the whole roof in the winter, they only need to heat 45% of it. Also the roof was bulit in a day using 149 5 ton concrete pads 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Whent to a game there sat behind the couch bench and my seats were to low and couldn't see any of the game cause the coaches on the bench standing in front h as to watch on the jumbotron
I love going to the Saddledome, especially since I'm a Season Ticket Holder for the Calgary Roughnecks (NLL 🥍) (I've been a STH since 2017/18 Season) but since they're going to demolish the Dome after the New Stadium is built, idk if Calgary is going to keep all the Teams or not. I live here and glad I'm an LA Kings fan. But holy crap don't visit here in January (unless you like -40 wind chill), . Rest of the year, PERFECT weather (not much rain) and many sunny spring and summer days
I’ve been living in Calgary my entire life and I can honestly say it is the worst stadium I have ever seen a game in. It is terrible in every way imaginable.
@@basedworldbillionaire- the roof and catwalk block the view of the ice from the upper deck. The acoustics are so bad that most musicians skip Calgary. Instead of having many smaller washrooms they have a few large ones; meaning that there are exceptionally long lines and they are often a long way from your seat. The food options are both terrible and yet really expensive compared to other arenas in the league. The location is terrible because you have to walk like 20 minutes to get to any bar or anything after the game. The building is so old that the roof is literally falling apart. Also, having skated on the ice a few times, it is absolutely terrible as well. The seats are uncomfortably small unless you get club seats. The jumbotron is so small and far away that it’s difficult to actually see a replay if you missed something. I could probably go on but hopefully you get my point.
I have only been to the saddledom and I thought it was a awesome hockey stadium. Great atmosphere and I think it's history speaks for itself, saddledom is probably the coolest name too, so sad it can't be the same but bigger and newer
It's literally the worst design. Short sighted thinking. It can't accomadate the weight of snow as well as accomadate any large concerts because the roof. It can't handle the weight of a lot of lightning systems. It does look cool though.
It’s a terrible arena unfortunately, the roof shape makes it hard to bang speakers, which makes lots of artists skip concerts in Calgary. The concourse is also so small that it is extremely hard to navigate during game day.
So……… just……a minute you designed the worst arena for shows and other events besides hockey and the city gave you an out “nahh its not bad it’s unique to our city its a saddle” and you and your buddies go “ No NoT ThAt aT aLl y0u SeE tHe lInEs AlLoW fOr AlL tO sEe”😂😂😂😂😂 my god take the out

Ice cube came to rural bc lmao there is no excuse
fun fact: the one in sweden was designed after a saddle. So it was a saddle all along. next.
I was there in October for my Dad's Birthday! I'm glad we checked that Arena off before it gets demolished

Calgary local here. It’s mostly because the building is old and falling apart so they go to Edmonton for the nice new arena

Some of the best sight lines in the NHL…GFG

For live shows, they arent allowed to attatch any lights or speakers from the roof in case of collapse due to the roofs shape
i love the stampede

Capitol Centre in Landover, MD and a few other arenas had this before the Saddledome

These people saying not bad seats... Talk should go sit in the nose bleeds once then come back💀
I LEGIT SAW THIS OUTSIDE OF THE SADDLEDOME.
Damn, didn't know it was based on Scandinavium
The roofs shape is a hyperbolic paraboloid. Aka, a Pringle.
The architecture on the thing is one of a kind, but it can never outmatch the pyramids
My dad was the ceo he helped with the new business centre
Much better place than Rogers Place in Edmonton imo. Old school arenas are just way less crowded. Plus they tell so much
So when calgary's future arena opens. Rogers place in Edmonton will be better than it because it's consider old?
The Capital Center in Maryland (former home of the Washington Capitals) had a similar roof.
Heroin beers baybayyyyy
Love the dome go flames
They need to rebuild it 4x bigger
In Moose Jaw, SK there was an arena that people called the crushed can. It looks a skateboarding halfpipe
The Calgary stampede company owns the dome and everything on the grounds in and around it.
They’re a giant
The next arena is called the “took forever Dome”
The "extorted municipality dome"
i only remember that we have the sattledome because of the a7x concert that was there
To me, it's always been a Pringles chip.
i live here and i didnt even know that this existed
