It’s Simona. The fact that she was able to do that vault on the old table is insane. And extra credit for the gymnasts that tried hard skills in the 10.0 era. They weren’t always duly rewarded but did it anyway. Everyone that can land an Amanar is pretty great, especially love Maroney and Cheng Fei.
Ok let’s be fair. Simona very well MAY have had the best Amanar, and perhaps hers is more impressive than others like Gabby and Aly since she did it on the old horse…….but there is nothing that says that she could have done it perfectly especially given her form with vault compared to Maloney
Honestly, the girls doing it from 2001 to 2004 was always crazy to me since vault was progressing so quickly. I mean we had people competing Yurchenko "arabian's" at the olympics only 4 years prior, just managing a double full was top vaulting.
Simona Amanar doing her signature vault 24 years ago, on the old mounting is untouchable. Just the fact that you're so good that you invent a vault is insane! Marian Dragulescu is another name that comes to mind, with his sognature vault. Both are gymnastics legends.
Vaults are named for the first person to land them in competition. I'm sure gymnasts had tried it previously, but Simona was the first to do so in competition.
Simone has had plenty of sticks or near-sticks on the Amanar. Others have had close to it. By far, Maroney’s 2012 Team Qualifying vault was the best Amanar she’s ever done…maybe the best one EVER done. But maybe create a video of the best Amanar of each each gymnast and then compare them. It might make it easier to compare the gymnasts more accurately
There are several categories here: 1) on the vaulting horse: Simona Amânar herself, the fact that she managed to get this much power from the much more difficult horse and hard floor 24 years ago just puts her into the stratosphere 2) early pioneers: Monica Roșu, impecable form, state of the art for the time (2004) 3) McKayla Maroney, absolute perfection in 2012. I've never seen a vault so perfect and the fact that it's one of the most difficult vaults makes it even better
Monica Rosu is very impressing cause the table vault was pretty new. Her form and her high are very solid. My top 5 are: Maroney Biles Cheng Rosu Mustafina Bonus: Simona Amanar (her own category with horse vault)
Mckayla’s is just perfection. I love Biles’ & Cheng Fei’s too. Also how crazy is it that athletes were doing it on the old vaults?! The surface was harder wasn’t it??

Ok. Mckayla's amanar is a piece of art. It's a category on its own. Props to Shawn for being the first american to try it at an OG. Wasnt the best at landing but big props for being the first. Aly's amanar was scary. She could do it but has many landings that made us thought her knees are made of titanium. Simone is a very good voulter so she can do an anamar or whatever she wants in that aparatus. Cheng fei and Gaby's were also good. Most us gymnasts can throw an amanar nowadays.

Wow, so interesting to see how far Rebeca's vaulting has come in the years since! She was clearly always powerful, but this Amanar didn't stick out from the crowd. But her vaulting now is downright transcendant!
Yeah, "Rebecca's Cheng in 2023 is truly amazing more than this video’s her(2016) She's been improving every year👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 It's really cool to see. I'd love to make a video showcasing her performances someday❤️❤️
McKayla Maroney - best overall even with some leg separation off the board and best landing by far. ( Rosu, Fei, Weiber, Chiles, Biles - all tie for second place but none of them are close to stickign the landing. )
Maroney’s vault in the 2012 Olympics when she stuck it, that’s possibly the BEST Amanar vault I’ve ever seen performed, but I also think Simone does it consistently on a regular basis.

I actually think the worst one was by Simona Amanar. Granted, she was vaulting on different equipment at the time, and we of course have to give her the respect of having innovated the move in the first place. But lets be real, compared to the other vaults hers was the worst by every execution metric (form, height, distance, landing, etc)

Using the new 15 point new gymnastics scoring system....here are my own Amanar scores: Simone Amanar - 13.750 (because of the big hop on the landing; if no hop, she would have scored 15.000) Aly Raisman - 14.975 (nearly a perfect Amanar) Hong Un-Jong - 13.250 Monica Rosu - 14.000 Gabby Douglas - 13.975 Cheng Fei - 13.875 Shawn Johnson - 13.600 Rebeca Andrade - 13.700 Jordyn Wieber - 13.850 Anna Pavlova - 12.975 Victoria Komova - 13.700 Jordan Chiles - 13.900 Aliya Mustafina - 13.900 Jade Carey - 13.780 Maria Paseka - 13.750 Simone Biles - 14.900 (I give her 1 bonus point especially in the higher height of the flic-flac in the Amanar) McKayla Maroney - 15.120 (the best Amanar of all - better than Aly Raisman's) Victoria Komova's repeat of her Amanar - 12.475. I saw the hops, and she ended up out of bounds, causing a major score deduction in return. I also deducted the points for a suspiciously low flic-flac on the vault. You need a high enough flic-flac so you don't underrotate in the landing.
huge fan of Raisman but my god she truthfully had one of the most hard to watch, overrated, over scored Amanars in gymnastics HISTORY. her Amañar landings were harder to watch than Rebeca Bross’s dismount on beam, and that says A LOT.

there was more chance that they could miss the vault horse entirely, which was why it was changed to a table. the vault horse was scary!
