      she could have been a fantastic all-arounder on the international stage. it’s so unfortunate that she was surrounded by some of the best-allrounders in aly, jordan, gabby, and kyla AND the best vaulter in the world at the time. the cards were truly stacked against her…

      @@colesmith7509 - you're forgetting that injuries kept Price out of a decent amount of 2013. She withdrew from the American Cup, didn't compete at Classics and didn't do AA at Nationals, but was still invited to the selection camp and was named the alternate. In 2014 she won the AA at Pac Rims and then decided to go the NCAA route so it's not completely fair to say she was just glossed over.

      2012 was loaded and she just slid under all the other stars for some reason, and then injuries and it just never seemed to be her time.

    Crazy that about 87 people did it in 2010-2012 but not one person has introduced it since 2017

      Part of it is likely due to a slight decrease in start value advantage over a DTY and at the same time judges have only gotten stricter about deductions
      But I also think that part of it may have to do with what seems to be an evolution of the typical gymnast's phyisque. More and more we're seeing WAG gymnasts who aren't as waifishly thin as in years past, and well... thinner bodies can twist faster. That being said, I'm hoping that it's a sign the sport is improving and gymnasts are physically and mentally healthier now with less pressure to starve themselves thin

    • @colesmith7509
      @colesmith7509 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@honeyfromthebee I definitely agree on the difficulty part. I just wouldn't have expected it to drop to 0, especially considering the Amanar was only 0.5 more than a DTY in the 2013-16 code. Still, some people tried the Amanar.
      About the physique thing I have to disagree because the thinnest gymnasts usually struggle to get a good block. Those with the best Amanars have almost never been the extremely thin type. At this point, almost all of the underweight gymnasts struggle to do more than a Yurchenko full.
      I could still be wrong tho. And I would definitely prefer healthy and happy gymnasts over an extra half twist on vault lmao

    • @honeyfromthebee
      @honeyfromthebee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@colesmith7509 That's a good point! I think it comes down to a balancing act of physics. The most slight gymnasts are likely to also weigh less and therefore not be able to compress the springs as much or generate as powerful of a block off the table. A more well figured gymnast can better generate power there, but at the same time is going to have a wider twisting axis which slows down the rate at which they can twist

    • @Plaspos
      @Plaspos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@honeyfromthebee i think they look at the start values and think it's not worth it, but based on the actual results of team selections more gymnasts should be upgrading to the Amanar. Skinner made the team in 2019/2021 because of strong vault performances at trials that put a significant gap ahead of the other gymnasts, and Carey's vault advantage at the Olympics (15.2!! helped her qualify to the AA)

      @@MajorMajesticIce she has still been training it but I believe her coaches, the Landys, are just make sure she can safely compete it with our getting hurt. I saw a few training videos where Laurent was adamant about her fixing her block so she doesn’t land twisting. Which could be a bad acl injury.

  • @benrobinson77
    @benrobinson77 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I feel like the newer vaulting table allows gymnasts to cheat and enter onto the table already in a pre-rotated twist. With the old vaults you really had to be square coming onto the horse in order to make a good connection to get a good block ... just an observation. I would have loved to try and Amanar with the new tables.

    So it’s kind of stagnated in the past few years with devaluation and it being less worth it unless you can do it super well

  • @pedrojorge1912
    @pedrojorge1912 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    It really needed a devaluation, 0.8 above DTY was excessive, you could crash the vault and score the same as a regular DTY (like Jiang Yuyuan did in 2008 AA), around 2011-2012 the pressure to have it was imense, basically every top team was pressuring their gymnasts to get and land it. By the other hand, 0.4 was too low and basically killed the vault, specially with the stricter judging. The ones with enough power went for the Cheng, and even the greatest vaulters will avoid it whenever possible due to the low reward.
