BEST BEER IN HAWAII?? Kona Brewing Co & Exploring the Port (Pride of America)

- We have had amazing weather in Hawaii... until today... We pull into the port of Kona and it's overcast and looks like rain will come any minute. But we head out to make the best of our day! First stop is COFFEE!! Kona is known for some of the best coffee in the world, and we have to agree that it is pretty darn good!
This port is our favorite so far with what the actual port area is like. You come off the tender boat right into town where everything is happening... hotels, shops, restaurants... and everything in walking distance which makes it perfect for exploring on foot.
We run into some friends... and it is gettting close to lunch... so we decide to walk over to Kona Brewing Company for some local beer... and we have heard, great pizza! There were many brews to choose from, so a flight was in order. Oh, and the pizza was really good!
Before getting back on the ship, we needed a sweet treat! So we find a little shop selling Acia bowls and the local specialty, Shave Ice. I LOVED this spot as the flavors on the Shave Ice were made from realy fruit juice and were absolutely delicious!

Thank you for your videos. We were in Kona yesterday and went to the Kona Brewery which was awesome. The shaved ice place is gone though but the sign is still there. We’re on the Sapphire Princess heading back to Ensenada now. Thank you again for the great recommendations.

I loved Kona - I wish we had 2 nights there and missed Hilo. PUʻUHONUA national park there was our favourite.
First Watch had a fantastic acai bowl on the menu a while ago topped with fruit...

Acai bowls are everything! Acai is a super food! I lived in Hawaii for 8 years! p.s. Matsumoto's is a tourist trap, I am glad you experienced another shave ice!

I’m so glad you made it to Kona Brewing Company. Next time be sure to do the brewery tour. That’s our favorite place and we’ve been going there since our first trip in 1999. We were there a few days after you. Too bad we missed you.

My free advice: Kona is less expensive than Waikaloa up the road past the airport on Queen's highway. Eat where the locals eat and try small places. Use the supermarket (Safeway or Walmart are close to the action but only Safeway is close to walk there but there may be another store that I do not recall the name of) for inexpensive breakfasts if staying on land - fruits, pastries, yoghurt all no cook options. See the national park just near the airport. Walking needs good shoes as a lot of the paths are crushed lava. Do get Shaved Ice for a quick sweet pick-me-up on Alii Drive. I highly recommend the Brewery you went to for lunch or dinner - outstanding pizza and beautiful patio garden setting outside. Closed on Mondays.
Kona Brewing Co. Big Wave Golden Ale...a favorite.... so good, flavorful but not too heavy.

It could have been they ran out of ice at the closed shave ice place. I just saw a news story on khon2 where they is an ice shortage for shave ice. No joke… I was shocked.

We loved Kona. We got married there at the old Airport Beach in 2018
It’s probably my only observation but you all must be cruising for a while as a group. And that’s why they say cruises add 20 pounds.
