    I'll get mine tomorrow ... can't wait. My goal is to use this for vocal and acoustic guitar in a figure 8 pattern, one side pointing up at the singer, one side pointing down at the guitar. I've had great results, good separation, doing this with a U47 type mic, but obviously I only ended up with one mono track. With the AA I'll have true stereo, and I'll be able to EQ and compress the front and back (or, in this case top and bottom) individually. What didn't work great with the 47 was to find a perfect volume balance between the two lobes. Also, the guitar seemed to ask for different EQ settings than the vocal. (I wanted to get rid of some string squeaking, but cutting that particular frequency made the vocal sound dull.) We'll see ...

  • @DenisLogicCertified
    @DenisLogicCertified 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The song is cool, nice and greatly executed, but I find it's a pity that the little descending guitar melody reminds me too much of "Wake me up when september ends" by Green Day.
    Don't get me wrong, it's fine and these are only notes and have no copyright or whatsoever, but it's too obvious to my ears that I can't help but think of the other song when the melody comes up so it distracts me from really listening to the song at times. Hope that makes sense.
    Anyway, great great job on that song and the mic sounds really amazing!

    Hey Warren, thanks for showing us around the Polar Design Plugin. Could you explain what you mean when you say adjusting the polar patterns of the five bands avoids "Phase Shift" which can be caused by other EQs? I understand Phase Shift to be when you have more than one waveform that are not aligned, therefore causing phase cancellation. How do regular EQs cause this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers from Australia

    Dear Warren, how that exactly work when you're plugging two cables in one mic? Are they in principle recording in omni and then you change the polar pattern afterwards? I'm a little concerned of how the sound will be processed through the plugin. Is it going to deteriorate the sound in any way?
    Thanks, I'm really interested in those mics.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it records in Omni and is processed through the plug in, digitally so there is no degradation in sound.

    I just spent hours fixing my old AKG D330BT which had been wrecked for years after the canon plug pins had been ripped out by a well meaning but rushed ‘roadie’ after a gig. I managed to solder in connecter wires and a refashioned canon plug and now knowing that AKG is no longer in biz it may as well be made of solid gold. Also heard rumours of the demise of Bose (at the other end of the audio chain) which is just madness.

    well technically - yes using it in stereo will prevent phase issues - but it technically WON'T be stereo - any more than recording a copy of one side of the performance through a mono mic and then phase reversed. There is no difference in information between the two channels since it's from a single diaphragm - no?

    • @Producelikeapro

    Beautiful sentiment with the song, Warren. The mic has some interesting capabilities. Using the band variable polar patters only for tonal balance is only half the story. In a live studio or live performance scenario use of polar patterns to blend instruments into a sound field using the benefits of leakage modeling is just as important and the two scenarios will interact as well. Can you demo this in a live scenario?

    See this brand coming up more recently but hadn't heard of them before. Currently looking for a new mic and I'm thinking of going for a Sm7B coming from the condenser that is included in the Focusrite bundle. Would this be a significant upgrade?

    • @Mansardian

      Well, it is a new brand, founded by ex-engineers from AKG. I just don't get how you could think the Austrian Audio and the Shure are in the same league? They aren't comparable at all. The SM7b is dynamic, the AA is a dual-diaphragm condenser. The Sm7b costs around $400, the AA around $1,000...
