There is something that's so unsettling about this game. And it isn't the typical horror game tropes of jump scares and icky goo and standard horror music. The rhythms themselves set me on edge while intriguing me at the same time. It's fantastic.
It's a very well done game that ticks the Lovecraftian vibe of horror. You're a tiny little thing up against seemingly impossible odds. Granted you do get the ability to vanquish them, but still... it gets close.
I think the way the game uses rhythm to enhance _horror_ is a really cool concept. Area Infinite gives you a feel that there's absolutely no way this was meant to be seen, or even allowed to exist. That's terrifying. That's really cool and clever.
i dont think you know what horror is. an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust. you may feel afraid that you'll lose, but you're not feeling anything that intense. its a video game, and it isnt scary in the slightest.
The visuals and music are deeply unsettling, completely alien, and completely ruin the human expectation for music. One of the biggest parts of horror is creating moments which defy normal, everyday expectation.
coffeehauz but its not Scary. which is basically what horror is. i hear this music and i think, "oh this is kinda odd". not "this is absolutely terrifying"
And so the space beetle ascended to the godhood... or descended into nothingness that comes before and after infinity... by which he could also descend into the more realistic godhood, which is... death. Died from extreme Gs and became embodyment of top speed. What a poetic end.
I always imagined it as the beetled escaping imprisonment and achieving freedom. Regardless, it's an amazing journey, and somebody needs to come up with a suitable name for this little guy.
To be fair the difference in difficulty between 7 and 9 is pretty small. 7 is where it kinda starts tapering off. 8 and 9 are still harder, just not by that much.
Did anyone else take the ending to mean you're not in space but actually in the grooves of a record? And that the final (final) boss is a stylus? It looks like one of you magnified it. It would match up with the record scratching/skipping sfx too. The beetle is so determined it breaks free from the music it's trapped in.
1:56 - That could actually make some sense at this part as it sounds like you/the Beetle are at the final tail end of the record itself. Like all the songs have finished playing and it’s about to pull up, but something you did causes the reality of that record to sorta break apart, causing that last fight to randomly speed up and slow down: warping itself to become as unusable as possible in hopes of destroying the Beetle with it. But instead… it persevered to that Great Unknown.
The final boss is just so menacing to me, especially after the first shot where it splits into three pyramids. it just feels like you're getting into something you really shouldn't be
It took me so many tries to defeat the final boss... with the speed changes you have to memorise that "okay, so in 3 seconds, I will have 0,001 seconds to press 4 buttons at the same time", I could barely believe when I actually did it
I found it to be actually not that challenging (i struggled much more with lvl 4 or 5). Main idea with the ∞ boss is that turns are done extremely quickly most of the time so you just have to antivipate them Also being a musician helps a ton throughout the game rhythm wise
i like how when you beat the skull its like "shit this is my final form, i dont have any more. IF IM GOING DOWN, THEN YOURE GOING WITH ME" and then plummets towards you.
The big prism is actually drawing the line, everytime you get so fast, you will see a glimpse, and then that prism will speed up as well, until you become just too fast to outrun, so then it decides to fight you, and fuck with the speed, until you destroy it, and you make it to the end of the line.
In my theory: Thumper is not only a horror rhythm game, but also an unusual world. Maybe the space beetle's orgin is that it lives in a peaceful world and a portal opens for the beetle to advance and takes the beetle to a world where it will never escape, the only way to escape the world is to play the road's music. And if you see the boss from the final level (infinity), that's the world's entity. The more the beetle plays the music of the road and advance way further, the weaker the entity it gets. Once you went to lv inf, the road and the world gets really corrupted (identified cuz of the slow, fast speed of the road and a random or no song) and this is because the entity became weak but still strong enough to create more road. If playing the road makes it weaker, using homing attaks makes it worse. If it dies, so does the world. Even though you defeated the entity but still has no physical damage, the entity falling shows that it's dead. Since it's dead, the road is finished. And how does the game end, by going to a portal that is either the beetle's world or another world. (if the Thumper franchise makes a sequel)
Another possibility for where the beetle ends up after the final boss is that the beetle goes to a parallel universe where the road is much more dangerous than it already is, kicking off the events of Play+ mode. That still doesn't explain, however, why the beetle in Play+ is golden.
It feels like the skull wasn't meant to fall forwards, but backwards. Then we see debris twice and the level ends normally, like we've somehow glitched the game. Great horror game
This is like the first thing I've seen of this game, and oh my god this is so unbelievably intense and eerie and just plain awesome. Like, actual awesome, in every sense of the word. I need to play this game now.
For anyone ever get a tough reaction on what comes next, let me remind you that it's not just an object that comes to you that you should focus, the sound is really important too... When you're able to distinguish between different kinds of SFX that played split second before what's Coming, then you can guess which will come first, be it like the Obstacle for example, as it has hi-hat SFX, when that played you'll bet your ass it'll be the obstacle next, and the small synth bass that represents the thumb ( blue rectangle ) This is actually the most optional way to help yourself during the stress of many object came, I know it may sound like an extra work but you'll get used to double multitasking... It's mostly going to help you out, if you play without sound then good luck with the muscle memory
I feel like this game is all about the rhythm and you must keep count on the beat. It's like playing a sheet of music if you ever played an instrument. You must have the beat in your head.
Level 9-27 has this kind of bizarre urgency to it. Like it never expected you to get this far, like you were never SUPPOSED to get this far, and the game is no longer trying to kill you, but desperately trying to PROTECT you from seeing something you really aren't meant to see.
To have reflexes like that to be able to do that, without losing your metal wings in that, is almost completely impossible. Almost nobody can do it. I'm assuming only... %0.005 in the world can do that? How is that even possible?
Honestly you just have to play the game to be able to understand it. I am sure there are many people who play these type of games flawlessly. I mean look at Geometry Dash. It can be either easy or literaly the hardest game there is. That is not overexagurating btw.
2:35 I remember playing this part and just screaming not because of how fast it was going but how the game was causing me physical and mental pain just to remember to go right and left repeatedly that felt like hours of torture
The infinity level was such a troll. Can't believe I actually beat it. Finally finished Thumper on PS5 just then. No way I'd play this not in VR. Idk how you could.
oh my eyes... ouch. Ive been wanting to buy this game ever since i saw jacksepticeye play it but I cant find it on Xbox. Is it even on Xbox? And is it called Thumper or is there another name that its called?
So that's what it feels like to be born
SkittleE275 technically, yes.
You fight other sperms to get to the egg.
WAIT A MINUTE
If the sperm i- idk science.

I don't know what this is, but it ain't horror
Then you havent actually played it. This game gave me a panic attack by subverting my expectations with its "rhythms"
i dont think you know what horror is. an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust. you may feel afraid that you'll lose, but you're not feeling anything that intense. its a video game, and it isnt scary in the slightest.

i cant see a fucking thing
then open your eyes

Anim Bron-E lol..
its just me then.. i need to step up a notch
hamizannaruto nah i can see shit either
Sonic: You're too slow!
Beetle: Hold my beer.
Banter Baron lol
LMAO
Hahahahahahaha
That funky little scarab could make anybody fear.
Hey look my gf 😱 WTF GET THAT DISGUSTING BEETLE OUT OF HERE me 🤔😯 I know go little buddy go the beetle hold my whiskey
And so the space beetle ascended to the godhood... or descended into nothingness that comes before and after infinity... by which he could also descend into the more realistic godhood, which is... death. Died from extreme Gs and became embodyment of top speed. What a poetic end.
Actually this is what happened the perisecond Bambi's mom died. Yep that's canon
gamegrumps?
Yea
Thunder Soul I'll tell ya what happened, he went through a portal leading to earth from hell. He escaped hell
I always imagined it as the beetled escaping imprisonment and achieving freedom. Regardless, it's an amazing journey, and somebody needs to come up with a suitable name for this little guy.
Oh, silly me, thinking I had the video at 2x speed
It’s THAT fast
and here i am stuck in level 7, cheering my self on by saying "be the beetle, be the beetle, be the fucking beetle"
To be fair the difference in difficulty between 7 and 9 is pretty small. 7 is where it kinda starts tapering off. 8 and 9 are still harder, just not by that much.
Haha I took a long break after level 7. Currently on this final boss... But now I've seen what comes after I'm not looking forward to it...
Did anyone else take the ending to mean you're not in space but actually in the grooves of a record? And that the final (final) boss is a stylus? It looks like one of you magnified it. Holy frikk that makes a whole lot of sense
And the bosses are just bacteria

But instead… it persevered to that Great Unknown.
I had assumed that the beetle was trapped in purgatory and the pyramid was either a hostile entity or an obstacle preventing it from escaping.
That's an interesting theory! But the developers made it clear that this is supposed to take place in some kind of outer space area
The final boss is just so menacing to me, especially after the first shot where it splits into three pyramids. it just feels like you're getting into something you really shouldn't be
I feel like I'm traveling deeper and deeper into my soul. I am all for Thumper 2 a few years down the road.
After this, I don’t think a sequel would even be necessary. Let alone possible.
Well damn I guess you're technically getting your wish 7 years later (not a direct sequel but a similar game from the same creators lol)
"How it feels to chew 5 Gum"
Sonic hey beetle hold my beer
This ENTIRE game in 1 sentence.
no matter how weird this looks, you gotta admit this is pretty fucking cool
Is it weird that the featureless geometric shapes and the blinding light at the end disturb me way more than the actual Eldritch Horrors in the game?
It took me so many tries to defeat the final boss... with the speed changes you have to memorise that "okay, so in 3 seconds, I will have 0,001 seconds to press 4 buttons at the same time", I could barely believe when I actually did it

Thanks for the tips guys.
I managed to reach the final checkpoint, all I need to do is take down the pyramid- but I haven't managed to do this yet :´(
@@matthieulucas9059 I'm a prog metal fan so I'm used to weird time sigs and polyrhythms but this was still hard as f*** haha
i like how when you beat the skull its like "shit this is my final form, i dont have any more. IF IM GOING DOWN, THEN YOURE GOING WITH ME" and then plummets towards you.
Shhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii- I can't even see anything.

I love games with no story but have a story
How many teeth does he need??
Lars yes
Lars he needs all of them
As many as it takes to count as a abomination.
what does he even eat in this fucken space void dimension tf
i'm the catman Never heard of that number.
this is crazy. like you have games like rhythm heaven, where you get simple, repetitive rhythms to slow beats, then there's this.
It feels like the skull wasn't meant to fall forwards, but backwards. Then we see debris twice and the level ends normally, like we've somehow glitched the game. Great horror game

That feeling when it's the first gameplay footage of the game you see. Rather, I can't even see what's happening.
I'm stopping right here, at a minute in I'm playing this for myself.
What a game. Has to be the most intense gaming experience I've ever witnessed.
I feel like this game is all about the rhythm and you must keep count on the beat. It's like playing a sheet of music if you ever played an instrument. You must have the beat in your head.
THE GUY/GIRL PLAYING THIS IS AWESOME AND SO IS THE GAME I WANT IT
O.O I barely blinked through that entire thing
RLynnT i was blinking my ass off
This really is a “blink and you miss it” game
How did you even know what was coming at you??? I didn't even register that you hit the rhythm XD
howchildish I think it's a LOT of repetition.

Love The World Forever Try and error. He didnt do this on the first try
Chameleon Bro I've played Geometry dash for almost 3 years, and I beat most of the levels, but still there are some of them it's totally impossible
Baka 9 I can understand this .. because i play geometry dash :D
Love The World Forever, I finished it a couple of weeks ago, I'm 11.
2:35 I remember playing this part and just screaming not because of how fast it was going but how the game was causing me physical and mental pain just to remember to go right and left repeatedly that felt like hours of torture
I really hope at least one viewer was on LSD
Me
And something like this 😮😐 😀😃😯😐😢😮😮😱😱😀😀😃😃👾👾👾👾👾 and so on
Just watching this game probably won't do it justice. I haven't played it (yet), but I feel like the real fun is just playing it.
Normal speed: How others watching me play thought how fast the game was going....
2.00x speed: How I thought how fast the game was going.....
I now have the sudden urge to play a war drum or listen to some sort of dubstep
On that locked gate at the boss, I dont understand what the game wants. Can s
ome one explain how to break the lock?
you need to jump with one blue plate and then crush down onto another blue plate to destroy one of the 3 locks
2:34 Hairpin Turn Horror!
seriously, at one point I actually checked the speed of the video to see if it was sped up.
that's crazy
2:31 holy shit
Imran felt like I was getting slapped while watching it
Just saw jack playing the first level and I came to this.......
Good luck
I don’t even have epilepsy but I’m fucced up right now😭😭😅
Me before boss nine:I'm fine Me after boss nine:all my finger bones have been disinigrated
Jack would never be able to do this
Jacksepticeye...?
yeah jacksepticeye
sandra lebi lol just watched his video on this 😁
Every time I see this I check to see if I accidentally sped it up
every
single
time
They should make it so other people can make levels. It would be sick
I have no idea what this is and it just looks insane
If Autechre made a video game this would be it.
I need to get this game and connect to my tv... it would look stunning
I came back to this to have another existential crisis
That triple barrier break at 1:00 had me rewinding a few times to figure out what the heck even happened.
This video deserves more likes...
I'm currently unable to beat the Level 9 Final Boss. I'm stuck on the 3rd sequence, and this is terrifying 😂
I can't even see a damn thing and he manages to press all the buttons...
Are the random speed-ups/slowdowns supposed to be there or did he edit them in?
specifically there to screw with you
They are how the level plays out.... but they're not random speedups and slowdowns, so at least you can learn when they happen!
+Ollie B
"specifically there to screw it you"
ok
The Timelords happy now?
They're there only for that part in the game.
It's cuz youre fighting the writer of your very own track/reality.
Wow, truly amazing
FEEL THAT RYTHM >:D THAT IS AWESOME
If you know Jackspeticeye very well then...
*SPEED IS KEY!!!*
My head hurts just by watching this.
i love the music of this game so much
this is how it feels to take ALL the drugs
Lovecraft meets Lumi
After you beat the game is there any other modes like infinite mode or special levels or is that it
There's a 1 life mode where the beetle turns golden.
Game looks interesting, as of now it looks a little confusing but in a good way!
I can't wait to try and do this
Jeez, you’re bumping and thumping that boss geez
Radical job!!
This is the product of taking an entire weed farm at the same time.
the noise rock here is fucking unreal holy shit
The infinity level was such a troll. Can't believe I actually beat it. Finally finished Thumper on PS5 just then. No way I'd play this not in VR. Idk how you could.
What the frick frack patty wack some guy named jack is going on here
Je ne peux m'empêcher de te féliciter pour ça...
T'ES SUPER FORT !!!
Love this game so much...
Whats the infinity level boss supposed to represent?
Oh, pain in my thumb!
watch it at 2x speed
my eyes are burning, bleeding and falling out at the same time.
my apologies.
at that speed it looks like a video of how viruses are purged from computers in the sickest way possible lolz
I know right! wish I had that kind of reflex :-D life would look soo funny in slow motion after learning it tho
also nice ichigo/hollow pic! looks crazy cool
oh my eyes... ouch. Ive been wanting to buy this game ever since i saw jacksepticeye play it but I cant find it on Xbox. Is it even on Xbox? And is it called Thumper or is there another name that its called?
Is this what it looks like to become born
Me at 0:00 :This shouldn't be too bad to fight right?
Me at 0:13 :WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?
Is this what its like to be on several intense drugs
What is this song called? I feel like I'm on the run in the jungle!!
This man is a GOD
that final boss is not for people with trypophobia.. trust me.. it scared the shit out of me
Shteeben it's a demonic face with 6 glowing red eyes.
God you are good I can only get to level 7 🙁
Why is it that the pyramid things horrify me more than any other boss in this game?
im only at level 7 im both looking forward to doing this and and terrified
