Sundays are my self-care days: sleeping long, reading & coffee in bed, listening to podcasts, journaling, fufu in the afternoon and a criminal movie in the evening

I ride my bicycle to relax; take long cycling trips help clear my head. Other days I'll just spend the whole time indoors watching my favourite movie or series.

I'm with Ileen (yes, i know I'm the president of her fan club) but when I'm with someone, I don't fiddle with my phone. I'm 100% present and the phone is not on my mind. I miss living abroad where the rule of thumb was you have 24 hours to return a private cellphone call. In Gh, if you dont return a call in 5 mins or answer on the 2nd ring, the person wants to hound you and demand to know why you didnt answer. It's my phone and my time. I don't owe you an explanation (unless I've promised to do something or meet you somewhere within a certain timeframe). I also do not accept calls before 8am. I need peace in the morning.

My self care is going to the park every morning with a cup of coffee and the dog, stay there for an hour or more if i have time, maybe call mom. Or watching some series/movies, or read a good book.

You did not mention religion. To me religion is self care. I heard that people with mental health in Africa were considered as healers that needed to be trained.
Also I believe that beauty parlors and hair dressers are self care in modern cultures.
When I think of self care, I think about the different levels of beings :
    - physical (sports, yoga, sex...)
    - energetical (yoga, nature, gardening...)
    - emotional (active listening, journaling, animals, sports...)
    - mental (meditation, crossword puzzles...)

Great subject! I think you're wrong about cycling though. I know a lot of people who cycle for relaxation. Maybe comparable with taking a walk. During the peak of COVID a lot of people bought new bicycles and went for a ride to relax and be able to be outside.

My phone is usually not present in my life. If something is an emergency, people will call. Texting for me is on the same level as mailing. I'll answer when I get around to it.

Fufu self-care😉 now I've heard everything lol. Self care really isnt a big thing in GH I find. For women growing up, the only thing you're told is you must make sure to go to the salon every weekend to do your nails, hair and get a pedicure as your weekly self-care. I personally love early morning yoga. The breathing exercises and stretches make me feel more energetic and calm. And hot, soaking baths at night with jazz playing in the background.

One thing I have decided to do this year is to be on twitter only on my PC so I stay off twitter when I am with my phone or out and about. Twitter can be toxic plus there's too much info being consumed all at once almost every second. and to some of us that are overthinkers certain threads trigger unnecessary thoughts which will lead to anxiety. If you can , just log out from time to time

and people are lucky to reach me at my phone. This just happens few times because I don´t like to get disturbed from it so it is all the time in silent mode. Just when it´s next to me I see someone calling. In other case it can last withing 15 min. or 2 hours till I call back :) And people know me like this and its fine :) my freedom
