The big focus in Romans 9 isn’t about whether God’s promises to Israel failed. It’s about the Jews’ objections to Paul’s Gospel message that Christ came and took away the punishment for the sins of all men, Jews and Gentiles. The Jews hated that last part the most and their objections to it are what Romans 9 is all about.

This teacher grossly distorts the intent of Romans 9 (in fact, all of their campuses follow the same faulty thinking) and completely misses Paul's point. Unconditional election unto salvation is the furthest thing from Paul's mind and is, in fact, a false doctrine. Instead, Paul is making the case that God, in His sovereignty, has the right to use unbelieving Israel in their hardened state to fulfill the Abrahamic Promise. God did indeed judicially harden Israel in their rebellion to advance His promises, which is consistent with His righteous actions throughout Israel's history. To turn the chapter into a treatise on Calvinistic unconditional election is a ghastly error and reveals an utter lack of understanding of the historical context of Paul's day.
