  • In This video we show our experience with a faulty transmission filter causing Our 545RFE Transmission In our 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD to not engage into gears properly, and how we fixed this issue. We hope this video could help someone with similar issues with this transmission.
    The Codes we had during this Non Shift Issue were as follows:
    P0841-LR Pressure Switch Check Failure
    P0732-Gear Ratio Error In 2nd
    P0733-Gear Ratio Error In 3rd
    P0734-Gear Ratio Error In 4th
    P0944- Loss Of Prime
    P0876-Pressure Switch Check Failure
    The Corect Replacement filter is as follows:
    new cooler return filter whose part number is 04799662 (with no suffix or with a suffix that is OTHER THAN the “AB” level), and a new sump filter.

    I see your video and I think to myself, "I may have replaced a transmission that had the filter fall out". Holy crap! Thanks for the video.

    I can’t believe this, I just came inside my house after spending most of the day doing this exact thing. I was heading up the mountain yesterday and lost all power. I called CAA to come and hook me up and bring me home. I dropped the pan this morning and there was the filter laying in the pan. On mine the adapter was on the transmission so it came out of the filter. I might add I drove 80000 Kms on the wrong oil. Didn’t seem to do and harm. My lucky lucky day. Ps. My laptop herd me telling someone and I turn on utube and your vid was in the top 6 on my screen and that’s after looking up 545 rfe transmission problems all day yesterday, find that kind of strange. Big brother is listening.

    Thanks for these! They have a been a big help. I have a ‘05 CRD Sport and now, also have, a 2006 CRD Limited. I’ve had both do the ‘want to keep moving, even though the break is on’ thing. The ‘05 is not currently doing it, the ‘06 is. I’ll have to check the fluid level. (I change them, with filters, regularly.) I think the issue with not wanting to shift into the 2 upper gears when it’s cold, and really cold out, is ‘normal’. The engine has to be warmed up before the 2 top gears will engage...

    Mine has to idle for a minute before it will go into gear. If you try to go too soon by the time you get to the end of the driveway and try to stop the torque converter will stay locked up and almost kill the engine. I just let it run for a minute. Love the videos, very helpful.

    Great video guys.. my 06 CRD started doing this today. Transmission won’t engage in any gear. I was dreading that the TC has finally gone bad and repairs would cost close to $2500, but this seams a lot cheaper fix if I have the same exact issue. I’ll have my repair shop look into this tomorrow. I would DIY it but Virginia is freaking cold now. This would be the third time I found the correct answer to my CRD issues from your videos

    Had that happen to mine too. Toasted the transmission from it. I used a hose clamp on the filter, then safety wired it to the dipstick tube. Along with the updated filter of course. But that at least will prevent it from ever possibly happening.

    The pan is coming off tomorrow, what's the bet I find the filter lying in the bottom?

    Watch out. Had my 2005 crd transmission catch the car on fire, the vent leaks onto the exhaust. 1st time ran to a business and borrowed a fire extinguisher, $3000 in fire damage. Second time a week later I had 2 fire extinguishers and it was $8000 in damage. Chrysler sent a fire investigator who lied about the problem. Certainly i put 1 or 2 too many quarts of oil in it. I have a 2005 and a 2006, I was so stupid. Each needed a rebuild by 40k miles. The 2006 after a rebuild would never run right. 4 or 5 places never fixed it. A brilliant friend of mine and I traced the wiring harness for conductivity and found a short. I was under the car, I made a diagram of the connection ports for each wire and we found the one that didnt have electrical flow. I wasted so much time and money on that car. It now has 150,000 miles and rattles in the engine upon acceleration. I did buy a second spare engine years ago from a wrecked Wisconsin car with 90k. So I'm stuck with these cars. When your suspension in the front goes out replace the whole suspension with a $700 kit off ebay. Watch out for ball joints breaking and your wheel falling off, happened to my wife. The VM motorist engine is cool but the Chrysler product sucks, hate it. The back windows the motor design just sucks horrible, I dont even replace them anymore just bind newspaper up in them. $180.00 every 6 months for rolling down the windows 5 times or so is just redicululous. Oh, we vented the transmission with a hose that drops at the front of the car by the head lights. So watch out for fires. I did put a trans go shift kit inthat transmission, has incredible performance but it pumped fluid out for the fires or me over filling it did.

    Hey G.IG. guys the only thing funny thing my wifes libby crd is doing right now is that it doesn't have heat in the winter. I suspect that the viscous coolant heater has gone bad, because I bypassed the relay and kept it engaged and still doesn't heat. Anyone know where I can get a rebuild kit or aftermarket one?

    The RTV will leak if ANY oil runs across bac corner of sealing surface while gluing pan on. Always use a gasket if easy to get one. RTV optional on proper gasketing....sometimes nice to hold things in place but eventually have to clean it off again.

    Good luck getting timing parts. The dealership wont even touch these crds now. Myself and the Diesel doc I took it too has both had problem getting quality parts especially after Corona BS. Jusst put a cumming restore in it and call it good if the timing balancer goes.

    Good evening, what is the correct way to check the fluid? Idle in park or idle in neutral.
    Manual says one thing and the dipstick says another.
    Thanks in advance

    • @GitItGarage
      @GitItGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good question ! It is my understanding that it should be checked in neutral with the parking brake set (for safety) as the pump is not engaged in park and could lead to a false full reading , it should also be at full operating temp and on level ground.

    hello, I own a jeep cherokee liberty limited 2003 KJ 2.8 CRD, with my diagnostic devices (DRBIII emulator, Icarsoft) the following DTCs are still present despite their erase. It's P0740 TCC out of range, P2704, P0218, P0868, when I drive I feel vibrations, I can't say exactly if it comes from the gearbox...I'M NOT A MECHANIC. Your videos are very informative, which is why I am turning to you with the idea of having information from a specialist to help me solve this problem. The accelerator pedal is sometimes soft and sometimes not...is there a connection? I changed the oil, the filter but I did not change the flat filter. Thank you for your response, help and support

    • @GitItGarage
      @GitItGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Sorry to hear you are having issues, These codes may be coming from the transmission control module so I'm not sure if erasing them will remove them completely, I am not familiar with the DRBIII emulator. However these code indicate a major issue in the transmission or Most likely the torque converter, these are known to have torque converter issues with the symptoms being shuddering, and that comes from the torque converter lock up slipping, that can heat up the fluid causing overheating and in turn low pressure codes and not changing gears the way that it should, all codes that you have. The recommended upgrade is the Suncoast brand torque convertor or the euro spec torque convertor. I am not sure if driving with a bad torque convertor would damage the rest of the transmission.
