Cappadocian Cav loses to Cataphracts because they have no AP attack, but Bronze Shields heavily outclass Heavy Spearmen.

Thanks for the comment. It is actually Pontus Phalanx Pikemen. But they likely outclass the Spearmen as well :)

That really was more a question of good micro by the players than which army won imo.
If the player playing Pontus had withdrawn their general back behind their own lines after defeating the cataphracts, rather than going after the archers, that likely would have gone the other way.

Yeah. This type of videos is honestly pointless. The Pontic army was clearly superior. Comparing armies with these self-imposed rules where two units are just fighting each other head-on isn't indicative of anything.

I'm guilty as charged. :) At the same time, I also think that archers may complicate things in these because if they manage to rally, they can dish quite significant damage in the end battle. Thanks for the comment.

@@qualityoldgames7721 I mean that there are armies that rely on their flexibility rather than just brute force, in particular factions with swift cavalry and chariots that require a lot of attention. The Greeks can just stand there with their armored hoplites who tank everything with their faces, so they're more suitable for this type of videos. Lots of other factions are at a great disadvantage under the same rules, they might require more flanking maneuvers, hit-and-run-tactics, etc. For some cavalry support is crucial, because not all infantry is meant to be played the same. The Greeks, as mentioned above, can win a war of attrition. Pontic Phalanx Pikemen, for example, are just good enough to pin the enemy infantry down long enough so that their much more powerful cavalry and chariots could deal some devastating damage. Or Thracian Falxmen, who hit like a truck, but they have to outflank the enemy units while those are kept busy by your phalanxes.
The game is so much more than "infantry attacks infantry and cav attacks cav".

@@iIiIiTGR777iIiIi Fully agreed on that. These tests are always a simplification. Imo, quite often the player skills would play a major role if full tactics were allowed :) Thanks for the clarification.

I think the opposing general should be allowed to get involved if the other general is forced to intervene against flanking cavalry. The cavalry as set up at the moment have basically no chance of influencing the infantry battle, and the point of the general's bodyguard is to be a reserve of last resort. If you're forced to deploy that last resort before your opponent, you should be punished for that.

I dont agree Pontus is the best here. Pontus used their general proactively. If the Armenian player did the same, and protected those catas after beating the capps, then they could have used the catas to smash the pikes one by one. The problem was the catas took a lot of losses from the pontus general and the armenian general was just idle, if the pontus general is active the armenian general should also be allowed to be active, then that general could have smashed the pontus general from behind.
Otherwise if both generals were only allowed to be idle the pontus army would be destroyed even faster due to the catas doing hammer and anvil tactics.
This whole battle imo comes down to that catas beats capps and will have enough troops left to smash the pikes.

At the begining of the battle you can see the Pontus cav charging while the Armenian cav isn't. If the armenian cav would have charged they would have taken way fewer losses.

It was obvious that Pontus units performed better, only because you microed Armenian army won. Which made the whole battle pointless if the point was to measure how the two armies would perform under equal conditions.
