kebab isnt native to europe, spaghetti is just the name of a pasta, not a dish and pierogi is just a dumpling, just like youll find everywhere in slavic countries and mongolia.
In 1981 I went to Malaga and on the beach two Santanas placed themselves in a position that allowed placing a tarpaulin between them, a very long table was set up and a horde of spaniards got to work on preparing ingredients. They placed what seemed a bathtub on a fire lit between some rocks, dolloped about 4 litres of olive oil in the same and started piling ingredients to cook. The smell on the beach was heavenly.
At the end of the day its just all about your personal preferences.....so, as an Indian who has grown up on biryanis and pulaos, I was honestly not impressed by the paella I tried in Madrid. Maybe it was a touristy version I tried, though it was a very highly rated high-end restaurant we tried paella at....I liked weiner schnitzel in Vienna but the best weiner schnitzel I had was in Milan, Italy as the cotletta milanesa.... My vote for best European food (from my limited experience) goes to Czech food....I just loved the simple heartiness of meat, sauce and dumplings or mashed potatoes, sausages etc. Everything I tried was tasty and I just can't believe Czech food is not more well-known....
I agree Madrid is not the best place for paella. It's also not very typical from there. Madrid are better at hearty stews. I also 100% agree the Schnitzel is just a bad milanese (we call Schnitzels milanese because it originates in Milan). My favourite European cuisine is Italian because, if it is not a touristic place, it has always been lovely. But in the end, there might be so many other dishes I have never tried that could be absolutely lovely. Like, I have no idea how Hungarian cuisine tastes like.
Belgian fries are the best. Thick cuts, fried in beef tallow. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Served with a huge heap of slightly accid mayonnaise. 😋
As a German, I don’t even understand this and I really like this dish. It’s good. But it’s nothing special. You get it as a little kid on a hot summers day and it’s very nostalgic as a result and almost never a bad choice but world famous?

Are you disputing the fact fries are world-famous? Have you tried them? If so, and given the fact fries are served all over the world, it goes to show how popular they are. Same with baguette. It's not easy to make perfect baguette, just like it's not easy to make perfect pizza, etc. The art of cooking / making food is in making something that looks simple and easy in something that is delicious. Same goes with e.g. sushi, an omelette, tofu, making a good sauce,... Everyone can do it, but few can master it.
I like paella, but those pans are difficult to clean. One time I tried to take a shortcut by tying them together with a rope and tossing them into the ocean overnight. When I came back the next morning, all of them washed away except one. Man, my boss was so mad at me for doing that.

As germany is more or less between belgium and austria geographicly, we ofcause combined the pommes frites with the wiener schnitzel into one dish 0_0, but then use pork meat like in the curry wurst. Voila Schnitzel Wiener Art mit Pommes =)
I used to live in the Netherlands in the 90s and always loved frites mayonnaise. The local mayo is better than the Heinz garbage. I wish they did them like that in the UK. The curry sauces are better on the continent as well.
God I love the Austrian German dialect. Sounds like my flemish dialect, funny, cheeky, laid back, thoungh in cheek. 70% understanding, Schwyzerdütsch by opposition, like 15% Crazy, these German dialects are as crazy as the Dutch ones.
You missed pizzas 🍕 and spaghetti 🍝 🇮🇹, gelato 🍨 in Italy 🇮🇹. Potatoes 🥔 in Greece and Czech Republic’s texture are very special sorts of chewy, their French fried is crispy outside but moist inside. Delicious 😋.

I was in Amsterdam last summer and one of the main things we wanted to do was try the fries, Luckily, our hotel was just up the street from a ‘Manneken Pis’ which is supposed to have the best fries in all of Holland. Okay, they were good but honestly, I’ve had the same quality fries here in the U.S. A large cone is more than enough to fill you up so it’s an inexpensive meal. I would recommend trying them but just don’t get your hopes up…

I think this is not so much european classics, but classics from european countrys. In Germany, the Currywurst is definitly a very popular dish. But for every european country there is at least a handfull of dishes, that you should try when you visit there. So for all european countrys you would have over hundred dishes alltogether that are worth trying.

I think this is not so much european classics, but classics from european countrys. In Germany, the Currywurst is definitly a very popular dish. But for every european country there is at least a handfull of dishes, that you should try when you visit there. So for all european countrys you would have over hundred dishes alltogether that are worth trying.
