On the night of April 14, 1912, 2,224 people faced doom in the middle of the fridge north Atlantic. The luxury liner hailed as unsinkable was about to do just that and disappear beneath the waves. The tragedy has long captured the public imagination with heroic tales of millionaire John Jacob Astor going down with the ship like a gentleman and fictionalized romances about people who weren’t really on board. Today lets met a handful of the real women who were on board that terrible night. We’ll learn more about the famous first class ladies like Madeline Astor and Molly Brown but also met some of the lesser known passengers of second and third class including the only black family aboard. And we’ll meet a crew member who was truly unsinkable.
    First Class:
    Helen Churchill Candee
    Molly Brown
    Lady Lucy Duff-Gordon
    Madeline Astor
    Noël Leslie, Countess of Rothes
    Ida Straus
    Second Class:
    The Hart Family (Eva Heart)
    The Laroche Family
    The West Family (Barbara West)
    Third Class:
The Goodwin Family (The Unknown Child)
    The Dean Family (Millvina Dean)
    Crew:
    Violet Jessop

I’m surprised we haven’t made any movies about these women tbh. Yet we make movies about this tragedy through fake romances because it’s “more sad”. He said the man responded with a snarky comment about how he wasn't going to relay the message to the captain for them to stop. The guy on the other ship got upset by his remark and turned his machine off for the night and went to bed. While my husband and I were on our honeymoon in Gatlinburg TN we visited the Titanic museum. It is one of my favorite tourist attractions ever. They have the violin on showcase that was found in the wreck. They also have a replica of the grand staircase (perfect for pictures) In the Orchestra room, they have a grand piano and someone started playing Nearer My God to Thee. Gosh it gave me goosebumps. I suggest everyone who can, go see it. It’s a wonderful experience.
They also give you a name card with someone who was on board the Titanic, you read their story and sometimes find their names through out the exhibit. At the end you can find their names and whether they died or survived.

    • @BriarMB13
      @BriarMB13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

They travelled with the exhibit and came to my town about two years ago now. It is absolutely amazing, they even provided a piece of an iceberg that you could touch to get a better idea of just how cold it was. The museum that hosted it even held a Tiantic party the first weekend it was here!
When I finally got to go, there was group in front of my mom and I that was so disrespectful. As they sat in front of the recreation of the engine doors they said, "Well all those men would have died from black lung in a year or two anyways, that's not much of a loss." Mom stopped me from chewing them out, bu got so angry I burst into tears.

The story of Isador and Ida always makes me emotional 😢
He was willing to be a gentleman to the end and give up his own chance of survival for others and Ida loved him so much she decided that she rather die with him and by his side than live without him. Maybe she also didnt want him to die alone... (In the Titanic movie, they're the elderly couple hugging each other on the bed while the water rushes in the room around them 😢❤) If that's not true, genuine love then idk what is 😭

I will never forget when the titanic artifacts exhibit came to my local museum. I was young, around 4th or 5th grade. Its such a vivid memory because despite knowing little about the titanic, being around all of the items shook me up. It was like the energy of everyone on the ship, filled with fear and anger, was absorbed by the rusted forks and chipped china. Even through the glass i could feel it, it twisted my stomach into a pretzel. I've always been sensitive to stuff like that but I often think about this and wonder if anyone else has experienced something similar, especially at that exhibit...

I think because of this tragedy they changed the number of how many lifeboats must be on ships

Eh it was a freak accident. I mean, sharing their stories really didnt prevent future sinkings but it is extremely important for their stories to be told. It actually did help some of the safety protocols tho. Especially those that locked the 3rd class passengers to the bottom floor thus dooming them to death. After that there had to be multiple entrances on every floor and no floor can be entirely locked if said floor is the only way to "exit" to the top deck.

The Allison Family should've been mentioned to the story. Bessie Daniels Allison, her husband Hudson and their 2 year old daughter, Helen Loraine, died on the ship while looking for their infant son, Trevor, who was saved in a lifeboat by nurse Alice Cleaver. Bessie's maid Sarah Daniels and cook Amelia Brown were also saved. Hudson's chauffeur, George Swane, also died. Bess was 1 of 4 women in 1st class that died. The other women were Edith Evans, Ann Isham and her Great Dane, and Mrs. Ida Straus and her husband Isidor. Loraine was the only child in 1st and 2nd class to die.
