- It was a Crimewatch case that stood out...... a jewellers raid with rare a white tickford capri getaway car,after the robbery at D J Massey Jewellers the car was dumped and so was the the sawn off argyle shotgun.The shotgun was thought would produce at least some leads to go on but it resulted in nothing.. no prints were found on gun or car,the distinctive ultra rare tick ford capri which was double the amount of a normal capri produced no leads also,appeals carried on for several months but turned up nothing.Several arrests were made but the suspects were later released without charge. further appeals by police would go nowhere.
It was a case that would go cold very quickly
a year later in 1987 a string of armed building society and post office robberies held up by 2 men, but the locations were widespread and ranging across country,the money from the raids was between £9000 and £20,000 the other raids averaged lower takes from £2000 to 5000 from smaller post offices.Each raid was professional and precise and carried in city's villages or remote towns there was no favoured choice,.but soon after months of nothing police would get the breakthrough that was needed.
I remember the tickford capri, they would have earnt more money storing that for 40 years than they did out of the robberies 😂😂

Just been on gov.uk to check on the tickford capri. Unfortunately no current mot and no tax since 1992. Bugger. They certainly aren't my favourite classic ford, (or any capri for that matter) but i wouldn't refuse it if a relative left me one in their will!!!

My mate had a Turbo Technics XR4x4 back in the late 80’s. Stolen and used in a ram raid on Rumbellows at the Gateshead Metro Centre and never caught.
lots of these beautiful cars were knicked and destroyed, Rumbellows wow that takes me back

I remember seeing a brand new white Sapphire Cosworth being delivered to the police workshops in Killingworth, which was stolen the very same day from their "secure compound" and rallied around on waste land and made off along the train tracks.

Could they have picked a worse getaway car 😂😂. They over heated due to the IHI being fitted right next to the radiator . Misfired. Didn’t handle at all. They would have been better off in a 2CV

I Got the Article from 85/86 from Autocar RS500 Cosworth Vs Tickford Capri .
RS500 was Homologated the Tickford was built to be more affordable than a Porsche but offer simular performance.
