- There are growing fears among doctors that there will be a second peak of coronavirus infections, as the lockdown restrictions are eased in England.
We've been speaking to staff at one of the hospitals worst affected by the pandemic in the UK -- the Royal London in East London -- which serves the densely-populated area of Tower Hamlets.
Hundreds of people have died there, with people from ethnic minority backgrounds particularly affected. Medical staff say a rise in cases is now inevitable as people have more contact with each other.

That’s why we all have to take responsibility for our actions; none of know if we are carrying it, and by maintaining social distancing we can help control it. It’s not about principles of freedom, it’s about having someone’s death on your conscience if you don’t follow the rules. If you deliberately flout the rules, it could be tantamount to manslaughter!

Drs/Nurses hate all the attention - the government and media are portraying them as God like, which they DO NOT want, why? Because it takes away the real issues of NHS being underfunded and not treated well, such as the PPE, etc. So what do they do? “Create” a government that “supports” Drs/Nurses and take the public on this clapping praising journey! Also, this is down to our leaders acting too late in the first place and easing lockdown too early, there is going to be a second wave, look at the beaches and parks, it's absolutely sickening to see how unserious people are still taking this. Luke Dyte it would certainly get the numbers right down, and make it easier for ‘track and trace’. If no-one is out and about, the virus would struggle to find a host. The evidence is clear, since lockdown, the number of daily cases and deaths are coming down. I know that’s no consolation to the families of those that have died, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Yesterday i left the house after more than 2 months to get some groceries...what did i see....people everywhere going around kids in tow...people in the Frinton beach ..one would think its normal times. We should think about those people in this report...the Drs and the patient's...before we throw caution to the winds!! 😢

The second wave will be the isolation virus. The London Hospital has had less deaths and more empty beds than it normally has. He said they were 20 beds away from being overrun! Try getting a bed when this is all over....the usual wait for a bed is over 8hrs....I've spent hours of my life in A&E waiting until a bed is available. Never seen so many staff.

Walking to and from work it's impossible to see how there won't be a 'second surge'. Parks are full of large groups. And police park just watching or seemingly texting, blocking paths so people either all have to walk into each other to go round, or into the road. Now instead of letting lockdown remain while the paused routine/non-urgent appointments are got through, we'll be trying to clear that backlog while a second peak takes off. What was that about not overwhelming the NHS?

It's so sad that all that nurses get are claps and gratitude. The skills and knowledge possessed by nurses in critical care units is so high and the focus needed to operate and monitor life saving equipment and medication doses is on par with that of aiplane pilots who also shoulder the responsibility of many lives on board. But sadly nurses are only seen and recognised as angels and carers instead of highly competent clinicians and are compensated much less for the number of hours and amount of stress. Usually a demand for such highly specialised professionals is met with an increase in wages but sadly this is not the case for nurses.
