Thanks Lone Adventurer for running this game through to your first Overseer! I know I've had a lot of fun watching and playing it for myself! My first Overseer (Infernal Archon) also almost killed me, but I managed to see it through. The Infernal Archon can also summon minions (I have no idea what they were supposed to be able to do, I just had them make physical combat checks and deal d6 fire damage on a hit), but luckily that was close to the end and I kill the Overseer and decided that his minions scatter. I HIGHLY recommend for first time encounters with an Overseer to bring a weapon that deals Bludgeoning damage, it'll let you ignore that 1 Armor they have on each body part and then your damage rolls are what they are. Another thing I've been doing is to focus my level ups on improving Magic Resistance, cause then you get to say "NO!" to Overseer and other monster attacks more often. The last thing I've done in my game that I've found really helpful is that I sold my first Relic to the first Trader I found, and bought a Backpack, 3 Pouches, a Crowbar, and any armor pieces I hadn't found naturally yet (I had some 300 gold with me too at the time). Granted, you have to play for awhile to find both a Relic and a Trader, but I found it to be worth it. Though don't sell Ring of Arcane Tempest, that thing kills Overseers if it fails its Magic Resistance check and you roll somewhat lucky.
Thanks for your tips! A bludgeoning weapon definitely sounds like it could be handy, and I think increasing magical resistance in some way is basically essential! I'm gonna definitely be getting some more kit as well befoer I try and tackle the overseer again.
This was a lot of fun, haha. You did forget to mark a few skills for improvement, since you rolled a few doubles! And you should have used your Tier 1 Hexmancer ability on the Hexmancer itself, and focus your attacks on it, I think. This Overseer is super easy to deal with if you have a higher Magic Resistance, but yeah, terrible at the beginning of your journey! I do realize that I should have explained better how the dopplegangers work, and they might be a bit overpowered. They are supposed to mirror the Overseer's actions, so they don't make their own rolls. Thanks once again for this video series, it's been a real pleasure watching it!
Hey, Alex. I'm confused by this. If the dopplegangers don't make their own rolls, what do they do? Are you saying they literally do what the Overseer does so if the Overseer does a Reality flux then the dopplegangers do the same thing? Wow! So you could have like 4 dopplegangers all casting Mystic Gaze at the same time! Ouch! I'm having a lot of fun running through this game as well. Thanks, Alex.
@@RPGFrequencies yes, they do the same as the Veilshifter, but on their own turn, not simultaneously. In any case, I think I need to specify that each doppleganger only has a single action, not 3 as the Veilshifter does.
@@blackoathentertainmentyour feedback and comments on this series of videos is so helpful and I've been making lots of notes on the margins of my book... Will you be releasing errata/notes on your website with all these points and excellent clarification, or perhaps in a future zine?
@@jay_cadiramen if you check the PDF, it's been updated to v1.2, and it contains most of these errata and clarifications (although not everything, simply because of a lack of space). After a lot of thinking, I've decided to rebalance how the Doppelganger ability works: "Doppelganger Surge: The Veilshifter summons illusory doppelgangers that support it in combat. Two doppelgangers appear near the Veilshifter and use its Illusory Mirage action immediately on themselves. These doppelgangers last until they’ve been struck once, and only act once per round each. In their turn, a doppelganger makes a physical attack against a target, dealing 2D4 Psychic damage if landing a strike."

Hello, found your channel when I was looking up Notorious, really enjoyed this series and going to grab a copy of the game. I'm off to check out your other videos. 😊
Really good solo series, many thanks. Partiularly enjoy your mechanics based sessions. For some channels who do solo actual plays it ends up feeling like I'm listening to an audio book rather than an actual play! Thats a solid "subscribe" from me and looking forward to checking out your other series.
Thanks for the sub! And I know what you mean - I'm not really down with very 'narrative focused' playthroughs - as you say, can end up feeling like you're listening to an audiobook (though sometimes I'm jealous of their sound effects, etc.)!
@@lone_adventurer Well, thanks for the reply and the job you do (Hollywood special effects aside!). Your style helps me check out playthroughs of games I'm not too familiar with....although I'll probably go straight for Notorious as anything that can be twisted to a Star Wars theme has got to be good!
Hi, my grandson found my son D&D collection from 35 plus years ago. So he together with his friends on weekends. I believe my son says they're using more up-to-date rules? I picked up this solo K.N. game version so I'd at least a slight idea of what he's talking about. I think I'll have to run through your videos at least 1 or 2 more time to have confidence before trying a solo game. But it does look interesting. If it wasn't for your video, I'd be totally lost. Thanks for taking the time to post it.
Great play thru. Question at 11.39 when you rolled a 2D6 you rolled a 6 and 4. The damage chart shows damage up to 10+ so wouldn't the 6+4 =10 Die Roll = 4 Damage instead of the 2 and 1 damage total of 3? I am not sure why the chart would go beyond 6 die roll if only to be considered individually....unless different enemies would use D10 or D20 dice.
Yeah I'm not sure why the chart goes higher, but I'm definitely doing the damage calculation correctly. The system often strikes people as a little strange, so you can find Alex, the designer, all over the place restating that this is how it works - including in the comments on one of these videos somewhere! Thanks for watching!
This is also the first rpg for me and I just started today. Do you know if there are good Solos in a Cyberpunk or modern (Something like Stargate) setting or Solo rules for CP Red? And do you have a few tips for games that doesn't give you scenarios? I really have problems to imagine something from a few bullet points while at the same time being very good at condensing a lot of text into just a few words
Hi there! First off, it might be that Ker Nethalas is quite a challenging one to start playing RPGs with, solo or otherwise. Might be that you're fine with it, but something to bear in mind! Now I'm not the best person to ask about playing games without scenarios, since I have not done a whole lot of 'true solo RPG play'. It is worth checking out Geek Gamers intro to solo RPG play. Maybe The Dungeon Dive's series on Mork Borg solo, any of the playthroughs by Chaoclypse give a good non-intimidating demo of how it's done. Best of luck!
When you find the exit, that acts as the entrance to a new domain with a new overseer. Rinse and repeat. I'm not sure if the designer has plans to allow characters to eventually leave Ker Nathalas and return to the world above...
For now you just keep exploring, getting more powerful, completing your Personal Goals, and basically just exploring the place. I do intend to expand the game with different types of environment, but I still have lots of stories to tell down in the Necropolis, and I plan on shaking things up there so it's not just dungeon delving.
@@blackoathentertainment well doesn't that sound intriguing! Are you gonna keep with the zine supplement format or are you plan something more chunky? I realise I may be cheekily asking for an exclusive here 😉
@@lone_adventurer I'll keep releasing zines with extra rules, Domains, monsters, items, etc. But the type of content that will change how the game is played will get its own expansions. I don't know how chunky they'll be because I only have notes for now (I'm working on other games at the moment), but definitely larger than a zine!
@@blackoathentertainment cool! And yeah, I know you're working on other stuff, since you always are, but also because I'm keeping an eye on Ruthless Heavens - that one looks super intriguing and the art is really drawing me in.
I got Gorehof and it has 2 extra attacks as well. It was impossible for him to kill me and I couldnt kill him either. Why?
