From personal experience, I'd say that people get defensive when they see someone hate on something they love, because that forces you to reconsider your own enjoyment, and then you're afraid that you'll like it less. I think part of Altrive's feelings on Deltarune might be _because_ of the fact he played it so much closer to finishing Undertale. I had a similar experience with Doom Eternal, where I really should have liked it in theory but couldn't stop thinking "I could just be playing Doom 2016 right now" rather than taking them as separate experiences, since I had only finished 2016 like a week before Eternal's release.

It was also because I had this funk during 2020 where I just couldn't finish any games I played and I bounced between what single player I mained. God that timeframe sucked. The entire section where they guys claim to just read dialogue quickly and silently instead of mashing through it is hilarious because of they fact that they are all bold faced lying as can be seen when there’s literally any game with written dialogue they always manage to get stuck for an hour on an easy tutorial they don’t know how to do, or wander around for an hour because they mashed through a character telling them where to go. You know, this whole discussion about opinions has got me thinking of something that I’ve been slowly realizing more and more, and it’s the fact that I think people care too much about what other people think. A lot of people, consciously or unconsciously, tend to define themselves by the media they consume, especially if it’s something that they really resonated with. This in it of itself isn’t a bad thing, but it constantly leads to situations where people see an opinion that doesn’t agree with or challenges their opinion, they then see it as a attack on their person, and then attack back because they feel the need to defend their opinion, and by extension, themselves. As an ex-fandom kid, I can speak from experience that it’s really easy to become trapped in that mindset of caring to much about others because you want your opinion to be seen as “valid” or “based”, and also very hard to break out of that mindset and just ask the million dollar question: who cares? Ultimately, the only opinion that should matter to you is your own, and I don’t mean in the “oh my opinion is objectively correct” way, more so the “at the end of the day does it even matter” kind of way. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t at least consider other people’s opinions about something, as other people’s feelings and experiences can offer a new insight on or ways to improve your favorite thing, just… y’know, don’t take it personnel, kid. So far I like it, but I can also see why someone wouldn't get hooked by it since it is only chapters 1 and 2 for the demo.

I personally think you were misrepresenting the people who disliked Altrive's video. From what I've seen of the comments, people just found the video painful to watch.
I don't remember who it was (I think it was Jawsh but I've been wrong before), but there was one guy who just would not shut the fuck up about not letting anyone enjoy anything, and I can imagine it brought down the experience as much for a commentator as it did for a viewer

I think the characters in deltarune are about where they should be for chapter 2 of 7. Still not as enjoyable as undertale, but appropriate. Also I fins the humor enjoyable in the sense that I am not laughing at the humor, but also not ironically laughing at the game, more like laighing with the game at the game if that makes any sense lol.
@@ProjectEchoshadow honestly i prefer chapter two over Undertale in a lot of ways. The humor is ridiculously good, and Queen in particular is a riot and one of my favourite game characters ever now.
@@ProjectEchoshadow Id say right now as a whole Undertale is a much better game than Deltarune, (mostly due to chapter one being a little dissapointing.) But if Deltarune is consistently as good or better than chapter two going forward it will be a better game than Undertale once both are said and done Just my opinion though. Chapter two's main flaw for me was it didn't quite make me feel anything besides joy and the occasional creepiness. Noelle and Berdly I feel weren't shown enough in chapter one for me to feel super connected to them by the time their emotional moments happened But other than that and some of the art being a little meh, Chapter two of deltarune was a FANTASTIC addition, and makes me excited to see what happens next.

Gameplay is an upgrade from undertale if you discount difficulty and a little variety (which I'm sure is intentional). Atm cannot give it any more, but with later chapters may go higher or lower.

Well depending on what you get shot by then yes you can keep running when you get shot. You'd be surprised how far you can get. Individuals may vary along with health and where you are shot. So there is some realistic aspects in Battlefield. Which is why someone running at you with a knife is still pretty dangerous when you got a gun at 20ft or so away.
I think I realized I don't need to care about other people's opinions on media I like when Altrive said Your Name was dogshit. It was great shock therapy to teach me that other people can have opinions and that they can be wrong.
Im thankful for deltarune because it keeps the people with bad taste away from stuff I like. If I ever see a deltarune pfp I know that they arent gonna say anything I agree with lol. Same with League or Hazbin Hotel ot any 2010s era animated show on CN (steven universe, owl house, etc). God bless those things for indirectly keeping the worst fans away from my stuff.

I always really want to argue when popular people say x thing (that I love) is bad. But then I realize what the fuck am I even gaining from that? Tbh, the reason a lot of game hate gets so much backlash is the phrasing of "X is bad" which claims to be constant rather than a matter of taste. "X is bad," just leads to "Fuck you, X is good!" so what I just learned is that you should treat the drill like a stitch-face. if you throw it with the drill, it'll deal as much damage as just the handle, plus it doesn't despawn.

I personally think you were misrepresenting the people who disliked Altrive's video. From what I've seen of the comments, people just found the video painful to watch.
I don't remember who it was (I think it was Jawsh but I've been wrong before), but there was one guy who just would not shut the fuck up about not letting anyone enjoy anything, and I can imagine it brought down the experience as much for a commentator as it did for a viewer

I think the characters in deltarune are about where they should be for chapter 2 of 7. Still not as enjoyable as undertale, but appropriate. Also I fins the humor enjoyable in the sense that I am not laughing at the humor, but also not ironically laughing at the game, more like laighing with the game at the game if that makes any sense lol.

@@ProjectEchoshadow honestly i prefer chapter two over Undertale in a lot of ways. The humor is ridiculously good, and Queen in particular is a riot and one of my favourite game characters ever now.
@@ProjectEchoshadow Id say right now as a whole Undertale is a much better game than Deltarune, (mostly due to chapter one being a little dissapointing.) But if Deltarune is consistently as good or better than chapter two going forward it will be a better game than Undertale once both are said and done
Just my opinion though. Chapter two's main flaw for me was it didn't quite make me feel anything besides joy and the occasional creepiness. Noelle and Berdly I feel weren't shown enough in chapter one for me to feel super connected to them by the time their emotional moments happened
But other than that and some of the art being a little meh, Chapter two of deltarune was a FANTASTIC addition, and makes me excited to see what happens next.

@@ProjectEchoshadow yep, it's a 7 for me. Cheesy as shit but enjoyable character wise. Story so far is interesting but ofc no conclusion yet. Visuals and audio good for me. Gameplay is an upgrade from undertale if you discount difficulty and a little variety (which I'm sure is intentional). Atm cannot give it any more, but with later chapters may go higher or lower.

Well depending on what you get shot by then yes you can keep running when you get shot. You'd be surprised how far you can get. Individuals may vary along with health and where you are shot. So there is some realistic aspects in Battlefield. Which is why someone running at you with a knife is still pretty dangerous when you got a gun at 20ft or so away.

I think I realized I don't need to care about other people's opinions on media I like when Altrive said Your Name was dogshit. It was great shock therapy to teach me that other people can have opinions and that they can be wrong.
Im thankful for deltarune because it keeps the people with bad taste away from stuff I like. If I ever see a deltarune pfp I know that they arent gonna say anything I agree with lol. Same with League or Hazbin Hotel ot any 2010s era animated show on CN (steven universe, owl house, etc). God bless those things for indirectly keeping the worst fans away from my stuff.
Deltarune's humor has definitely evolved, it's just that Undertale's haha spaghetti humor was already 5 years old when it came out

I always really want to argue when popular people say x thing (that I love) is bad. But then I realize what the fuck am I even gaining from that? Deltarune’s biggest problem is over confidence. That’s what keeps it as a mediocre gaming experience. Anytime it has a good idea it does that with little to no gameplay like a real life Hard DK a Film with an Undertale complex.
Their editing is perfect and they never miss their mark.

so what I just learned is that you should treat the drill like a stitch-face. if you throw it with the drill, it'll deal as much damage as just the handle, plus it doesn't despawn.
