Ben made a really good argument about sequels being iterative versus innovative hit the nail on the head. Sure, iterative sequels can still be great games, but they simply won't have the kind of (long-lasting) impact iterative sequels can achieve.

I have one dream for 2020: Literally anything for the Mercenaries franchise.
Remaster, remake, finally releasing Mercenaries 3, I honestly don't care because I just want to see that series on current gen.
Also I would like to see Just Cause and Mercenaries compete, because that would hopefully lead to both series being greater for it.
There was a remake recently or not anf some of them are on the switch. You mean a new one?
Mercenaries games were ok but if a new entry comes into being-it's got to face a serious revamp because while the first two Mercs games were cool they were threadbare beyond making explosions happen.
@@obba40 There is a game called Mercenaries Saga on Switch but I don't think the OP is talking about that. They're referring to the Pandemic Studios games from the PS2 and the following gen.
I would love a continuation of that series but I don't know if anyone owns that IP right now or, if someone does, I'm not sure if they are actively trying to use it. That said, Destroy All Humans is coming and that was Pandemic's as well. 🤷♂️
@@theredshadow401 honestly, I just hope THQ Nordic gets a hold of it. They've shown they're willing to take risks with games, and that's the best chance we have for those games to be made.

Huber all disc thing is actually brilliant. Imagine having 4 slots for switch games on the console. I know digital is a thing and companies get more money for digital in general so this will probably never happen. Switching physical games on switch is such a hassle with my small nails, it's like Nintendo designed it to make you buy digital or even make you stop biting your nails.
My 2020 prediction is that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a critical disappointment, around a 72 on Metacritic. It will be buggy and the storyline won't be as deep or complex as we thought it would be.

Supernerd471 atleast try finishing a game that you’re critiquing super, it would be like calling Bloodborne trash after quitting on cleric beast, which some reviewers actually did
tbh about the combat I have to comment on this because i’m tired of seeing this argument when it’s amazing and people just don’t get far: were you using the five classes of magic signs, like slow time, conjure shield, ignite/flamethrower, kinetic blast, mind control and upgrading their branches? were you brewing and drinking potions with alchemy using ingredients from slain monsters to augment your abilities (of which there are 70 elixirs with unique effects that range from night vision to regenerating health, elemental resistances and enhanced strength, breathing underwater, making ghosts tangible, buffed spells in storms etc can’t list them all) - the entire point of being a Witcher, or using your crossbow and crafting different bolt types like explosive, splitting, tracking, piercing, and 8 types of bombs that detonate with quirks - or oiling your sword for damage? parrying? decoctions? using runes? enchantments like freeze, paralysis and poison? combining magic with the environment? setting traps and altering your mutagens? probably none of the above just mashing attack and declaring it bad
Yeah, critical disappointment with this game is almost granted, people overhyped themselves with witcher 3 and cdpr, and are doing it with cp2077, a game that we know very little about, and the things we know/can assume are worrisome.
The "will there be a new Nintendo IP" question frustrates me. They have new IPs every year, or at least more commonly than not. This question stems from the dumb age old mindset people have that Nintendo only relies on their big IPs, but the problem is they have new IPs all the time and no one buys them.
2019 had Astral Chain, Ring Fit, The Stretchers and, yes, Fitness Boxing.
2018 had Labo and Sushi Striker, and while we kinda want to ignore it Dragalia Lost as well.
2017 had ARMS, Snipperclips and... 1-2 Switch...
Even before the Switch, 2016 had Tank Troopers as a new IP even if a small 3DS eShop game. They are constantly doing new IPs. They will always at least make something like Tank Troopers.
I get it (though Astral Chain is really not Nintendo made), but I see how most people intend "new IP". What they mean is "New triple A IP". Arms seem to be the last one in that category
@@terencecaron2922 The Stretchers, Dragalia Lost and Fitness Boxing were also not made by them, but they paid for them and published them and own the IPs all the same.
I do somewhat get that that's what people mean, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. And that mindset is also what makes these games flop.
For a couple examples, Code Name S.T.E.A.M. and Ever Oasis flopped in back to back years despite the former being made by the developers of Fire Emblem hot off of Awakening and the latter being the developers of the 3DS Remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. And it's not that they are bad games, they are both great. These games should have been considered just as "Triple A" as the other games those devs make.
But they were completely ignored because they are weird looking new IPs and why buy those when you can buy a new game in an old IP you recognize? And then people act like they rarely make new IPs, and that's why it always frustrates me.
@@TheNamekianClown You are right about everything you said besides one small thing. Fitness Boxing is only published by Nintendo outside Japan, it's not their franchise. Everything else is right and it sucks how much people ignore great new Nintendo series constantly.
Nintendo games flop because they suck. Simple as that. Every year is the same thing with Mario, Zelda and Pokemon. Then you have weak games like Animal Crossing in freaking 2020. Those games can't and will never compete with Sony's or Microsoft's AAA games.

Well Dan Casanova may have been wrong about the ps5 but there was a reveal next gen console which is a total miatery we know how it looks like we know the name but we do not know the specs, is it multiple consoles, and etc. The suspense will drive the sales on this on. Oh yes i forgot to mention the console it is xbox series x.

My dream for 2020 is the allies finally fixing their ugly miss-matched drapes.
Did the 360 have more momentum than the PS3 going into the current gen? The fact the PS3 caught up and eventually overtook the 360 mostly on the strength of the second half of the gen begs to differ. Sony narrowly beat the 360 that gen (both losing to the Wii), with the only market Sony losing in being the US. Over here in Europe Sony basically won all gen long.
For better or worse, the US market is largely how that momentum is perceived. In terms of how the industry behaved, the Xbox 360 was treated as the standard device. Xbox 360 versions were the default shown in previews and distributed to press, and PS3 versions were more likely to underperform technically or have bugs. Xbox 360 also set the bar in terms of features like online services and achievements, much of which Sony had to imitate in order to keep up with user expectations. The Xbox 360's lack of performance in Europe and near-non-existence in Japan cost them the sales war in the end, but it was still the dominant player until the botched Xbox One rubbed people the wrong way. -Bloodworth
Easy Allies thank you for the insight from the media position. I guess as a European I felt some of that for most of the gen but I definitely got the sense the PS3 finished on top with big titles like Last of Us showing that it was technically stronger despite the complexity meaning ports were still worse.
