Skunks are small, furry animals with black and white stripes. Some skunks are striped, and some are spotted or have swirl patterns on their fur. No matter the pattern, the black-and-white coloring is a warning sign to anyone who may harm this small creature. They pack a wallop of a defense mechanism - noxious odors produced from their well-developed scent glands. Please

Yes, THAT little guy was stressed. All the others were 'playing' when they charge and retreat. When they stomp it is time to de-stress them or RUN!!

Yeah but you should probably get the scent glands removed or you won't have happy neighbors. Also if they're playing and accidentally spray you it would suck to get out of your couch
Nothing like a cat or dog. Weasels are like no other animal. Dogs know when they do something wrong and feel bad when you scold them. Cats don’t know what’s right or wrong they just do cat things. A weasel dose whatever it wants while looking adorable and doesn’t give 💩 shit what you think.

This is actually a sign of aggression. Skunks often stomp and charge at threats including other skunks.
Dogs sometimes perceive the stomping as play, and the tail lifting as an invitation to come sniff, which is why they often get sprayed.

I had 3 ABSOLUTELY adorable babies under my house. I would watch them play and wrestle in the backyard. They were so cute and precious.
I called local wildlife rescue to come and trap them for release them into a less inhabited area of the nearby forests. I live about 2 blocks away from Sequoia National Forest. They told me they don't rescue skunks. What the hell?
Eventually the babies spread out into exploring the neighborhood. Two were shot by neighbors and I was told that one had a rat glue trap attached to it's foot which it dragged around. I never saw it again.
If there is a Next TIME I will trap and release the little ones myself. Skunks serve a valuable role in the ecosystem and deserve not to be destroyed because humans built dwellings in the skunks territory.

I just feed them. When they get all fat and happy... and stay out of the trash... they are no bother.
Just found out on one of these skunk videos who has been raping my carrots every year. It appears they have made some kind of a deal with my 3 dogs.
I always thought it was the groundhog next-door.
I got one under my porch now and it keeps spraying and my house is smelling like skunk. I couldn't even sleep last night it smelled so bad. Now I have to bring in pest control services and pay money to have them trap and take it somewhere else to be released and pay for/put up porch skirting to keep more from digging under the lattice. Im glad the skunks you were talking about got shot. The only good skunk is a dead one as far as I'm concerned. All they do is stink up everything and carry rabies.

That first one was a real rascal . I had a pair of skunks over 45 years ago. Name Huff and Puff . They had 8 babies and we kept 2 of them named Kermit and Miss Piggy. They are very sweet and playful animals

For smelly little fellas, they are so cute!
The scent glands are removed by a vet when they are very young. We had one when I was little. Ours was trained like a cat to use the litter box. They love a raw egg as a treat, makes their coat nice & shiny. Too bad we can not have them as a pet anymore here.

Learn to recognize "the stomp'. In the wild, a skunk will do this BEFORE spraying. If a wild skunk stomps, back away, and everything will be fine. It's basically their way of saying "I don't want to spray you - you REALLY don't want me to spray you, but you're making me very nervous, so I'd like you to leave!"

I got chased down and sprayed by a huge male shunker last fall. My neighbor said it was the funniest thing he ever saw... he thought it was a cat.
Those little bastards can get pretty aggressive in the breeding season. I still walk on the othrr side of the road when I pass his bushes.

A saved a baby skunk....she looked just like a kitten. Took her to a rescue and she got another male her age, so she had a little boyfriend.
