Nice video…soft music…and just enough demo to get how the water mixable oils work. What I had learned; first how much medium to use, wiping paint off often so the paint doesn’t dry on the brush, and to pay attention to what I’m buying so I won’t end up with two of the same kind. :-). I’ll be interested to see how you use the glazing medium. Is the glazing medium used to create the sheen on a finished painting? Thanks!!!
I think yours are taking extra long to dry because you’re only using the oil based medium - including on the background layer. You can use water for the first layer so that it’s dry to the touch before you start adding more oily layers.
Hi Michael, you can use a canvas that works well with water based oil the smooth gesso boards work too but at first start with a canvas it is less slippery! no extra prep. thanks
Can these paints be reactivated on the palette or they just dry hard and become unusable? I have an extreme reaction to waste, and that's one thing I adore about watercolours, not a molecule goes to waste. I know acrylics now come in an activated form, and I thought the point of water mixable oils was the same...?
@@KristaEatonArt the price of cobra artist is ridiculous considering the size of the tubes .Unless the artist receives lots of money for his work would be impossible to keep going having more art supply for next projects
I don't really understand what the advantage to water-based oil is. it sounds a little like it's a not-as-good acrylic or a not-as-good oil. is it literally just to avoid the use of mineral spirits while still having a slow drying medium? is it preferable to acrylic with some retarder added? In an effort to learn oil (I watercolor) I bought some fast drying paints, but have since discovered that I've removed one of the best qualities that oil painting has to offer, I feel like this may be similar. But I'm still so curious, I'd love to hear that I'm wrong.
How can you fix the oil paint on canvas or paper. since it is water base does it get messed up with when it is dry with wet cloth?
Do you mean varnish? I’m not sure 🤔
Brilliant video..

The glaze on the finished painting is a spray on varnish that is add for water mixable paint
Water soluble oil paints are NOT "water based". They contain an emulsifier but other than that they are pigments and linseed oil.
Thanks
Do you have to use brushes specific to oil paints for water-mixables? Or can you use watercolour brushes?
No I use the same

Ok thanks for the tip
Exactly 😊
this was very helpful, thank you :)
Thanks if there is any other tip videos you’d like leave me a comment! Thanks for the comment!
Former watercolorist. Want to try this. What are the options to paint on. Canvas? What else and what needs the least prep, or no prep?

They become hard! You just have to use them in one or two days.. I keep them in a stay wet palette box so they don’t dry out as quickly.
But what about cobra student range? is it possible to achieve the same result with those student grade paints ?
Not sure I’ve never tried them but it’s a very good brand so the odds are good!

The main thing is you don’t need turlinoid and the ease of cleaning with water
What kind of brushes do you recommend ?
I use ‘silver’ brand bristlon mainly flats size 2,4,6,8
