No. Playing some notes on a keyboard doesn't make you a "musician". That's the reason why he always relied on his brothers, than Barnes, Bottrell & Buxer ... to build his demos.

That is Genius…imagine someone arranging and composing a whole album(s) in their head….remembering it and then coming back to “spit” it, like a rap song….Incredible 👑
He was a walking beat box. He knew exactly how he wanted each instrument to sound and used many layers doing it. He was a musical prodigy and genius composer. His dance moves were an instrument of expression to every rhythm and beat . ❤️😍😎💯
I am going to say this, a lot of people talk about how Michael Jackson never played instruments. That is not necessarily true. He played piano a little bit a few times on tracks, especially for certain songs. He knew how to play piano, but no one ever talks about that. He didn't really play guitar, he knew chords and he new sounds. He could not necessarily play guitar, but he could be able to point out what notes and what chords they needed, plus there were a few songs that he played a small amount of guitar, but it was mostly rhythm. He wasn't Big on doing instruments, but he knew how to play certain things. Yes he could also mimic, beatbox and arrange everything from his head, but he was natural at that. I just don't like when they say that he's never played an instrument, when he's been noted to play instruments at certain times. Yes, he was more of a performer, yes he was more of a singer, but that doesn't mean that he still had a musician's gift.
If Michael were able to play piano /keyboards, he would have used keyboards, synthesizers and workstations to convey his musical ideas. Instead, he sang everything onto tape and multitracked his voice because he couldn't play well enought to do it on an instrument. That's still a great achievement and I consider him to be a composer in the sense that he could create and author his songs.
You haven't seen MJ then. He's capable of producing a wide range of sounds solely with his voice. He's among the select few who possess such talent. During his performances, he sings various parts, including those typically played by horns, guitar, and bass. And, his beatbox is incredible.
He’s literally a producer, he’s by far the biggest musician of all time so it’s easy to overlook his production work but he’s using other people’s talents like how I would use fl studio
That's right, the first instrument you ever hear is your own voice, whether it's talking or singing. He would use his voice to replicate an instrument such as the strings, bass, even the percussion to get the perfect orchestration before recording with real instruments. Bobby McFerrin was a genius at this at this well to the point that he made several albums with just his voice as the instruments.
So true….. even though I can play music on several different instruments, I am NOT a Musician…. I am “musically inclined”…. As a child I dropped out of music when my Band Teacher called my Mom to tell her I wasn’t reading music in class…. I would struggle to memorize each piece, then play through without looking at my music(trombone, both clefs)… if that guy and my Mom had tried a different method of scolding me, I MIGHT have become a real Musician. (I’m a guitarist, turned to the Dark Side, I bought synths😂)
Michael was incredibly smart in arranging absolutely the very best instrumentalist available to him in order to bring the sounds in his head come to life and manifest into reality.
This is a good debate. Both sides have great points. For me, I lean towards Acoustic’s. Some things digital do best, some analog do best. I believe it’s best to use both worlds for what you want.
He indeed was very clever as were the musicians who understood were he was coming from r.i.p. Michael and thank you for this interesting conversation .
When. I think about Michael, I don’t think about all the bad things that he’s done in his life. I think about all the good things that he’s done. When it comes to his music, I think about the amazing musical talent that he was. He was a musical genius.
If he was alive after 2009 or if he was playing basic instruments proficiency enough in his rise to fame, Michael would have learned new instruments such as the ukulele, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, cello, accordion, harmonica, bagpipes and every single instrument and its auxiliary members in the band and orchestra etc while continuing to play guitar, piano, keyboards, synthesizers, bass guitar, drums, percussion etc.
Michael knew all his songs keys tempos and sounds off the top of his head. The ability to see the song in his mind play out whilst unable to play an instrument is such a gift not a lot of people can do. There’s quite a few producers in a similar situation like benny blanco that can’t play but know music.
People tend to forget that the very first instrument we play as a baby and toddler is vocal chords. We sing notes, with different heights and harmonize them. MJ was also a great beatboxer
Michael was a musician but in a different way. I don't hear music in my head but when I play I always know what I want on the song. Everything is done on the fly with me
The concert that never happened that they made a movie/documentary proves that he was a genius and a musician. I don’t think most people would buy a rehearsal for a concert but I did because it was MJ musical 🎶 🎤 🎼

Oh, when I read the caption before the clip.. I knew instantly, it was going to be FLOODED with Prince stans... 😂😂😂
Bruh.. wtf do folks always bring up PRINCE, when someone's shedding light on MJ's musicianship?...
ESPECIALLY when the post IS ONLY about Michael Jackson...
I love how people don't disrespect.James brown like this but he too cannot read music
Michael Jackson was not an Instrumentalist, but he certainly was a musician!
Mj has instrument credits on his 90s albums
May we all witness 90s ... rumors to simmer down the detractors.
Right you are my friend. I been a fan of Jackson 5.before micheal. He is adoreable man. He just loves children. It's a life he never had.
I'm thankful for this video. I have a similar situation. My instrument is my voice.
Michael definitely was a savant, so probably on the spectrum in my opinion.
There's a difference between a musician and an instrumentalist. He was definitely a musician, but definitely not an instrumentalist.
He also was a virtuoso on his instrument (the voice)
He’s literally a producer, he’s by far the biggest musician of all time so it’s easy to overlook his production work but he’s using other people’s talents like how I would use fl studio
I know many vocalists with musical intuition. Nowadays there are producers who arent top tier in playing, but have musical genius in them.
Bill & MJ had a resemblance for a sec 😆.
Every Artist today is called a musician. It's funny how times have changed.
So true….. even though I can play music on several different instruments, I am NOT a Musician….
@@paultorbert6929 If you can play an instrument, you are a musician. Back in the day, a singer was a singer, a musician was a musician.
His singing voice was the musical instrument, especially when he sang with his brothers, "The Jackson Five." Just Beautiful !!! R.I.P. 🎶🙏🎶
There’s a reason why instrumentalist and musician are two different words.
Don’t play him like that he’s credited to producing multiple songs
An instrument of nature, Michael
Mihael was the best to ever entertain us. R.I.P. King
Michael was incredibly smart in arranging absolutely the very best instrumentalist available to him in order to bring the sounds in his head come to life and manifest into reality.
Michael is the best producer in his day....producers don't need to play but they must know how a song sounds from begining to end! 🎉🎉❤
Not only a musician but one of the best❤
Steve Lukeather can concur to this
What a legend. No one quite like him. Am happy to have been around when he and Freddie Mercury were at their peak, during the golden age of music.
Didn’t he play percussive instruments with Janet?
As Timor Stephan’s said it from This is It, “Michael is an instrument and the music plays through his body.”
Genius in his music 😎😎😎🩵🩵🩵💙💙💙❤❤❤👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Musical genius !!
He was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
This is a good debate. Both sides have great points. For me, I lean towards Acoustic’s. Some things digital do best, some analog do best. I believe it’s best to use both worlds for what you want.
Michael was an artist...using his imagination, voice and God-given talent as brushstrokes. Thanks, Michael, for all the fun!
He was the Steve Jobs of music 🙂
And what does this actually mean?
@@richardkovacs2006 He envisioned concepts and designs without a technical background.
Mike came up with that Heartbreak Hotel bassline..probably his top 3 original compositions for me.
Imagine being in the studio with Mike?? What an honor
He indeed was very clever as were the musicians who understood were he was coming from r.i.p. Michael and thank you for this interesting conversation .
Michael will always be missed. ❤
Michael WAS the damn instrument himself! His voice, his body, he was a human rhythm and melodic performance machine!
When. I think about Michael, I don’t think about all the bad things that he’s done in his life. I think about all the good things that he’s done. When it comes to his music, I think about the amazing musical talent that he was. He was a musical genius.
Singers are musicians by definition.
Michael was a musical genius it was in his soul
Puts some respect on his!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
voice is the first instrument we are given
Michael is the original creator of what music is all about in terms of build a master piece of art.
Booommmmm. He is unique in the musical universe. ❤
He did really need to play anything he new what he wanted and that was the instrument he perfected
His legacy will surly live on❤
People tend to forget that the very first instrument we play as a baby and toddler is vocal chords. We sing notes, with different heights and harmonize them. MJ was also a great beatboxer
Michael was a musical genius
Michael was a musician but in a different way. I don't hear music in my head but when I play I always know what I want on the song. Everything is done on the fly with me
People always trying to take credit for talent they could only dream of having ....the Soul is undeniable
Michael embodied the music itself.
It was incredible how he used his voice to compose. It also really inspired Kanye West musically.
The concert that never happened that they made a movie/documentary proves that he was a genius and a musician. I don’t think most people would buy a rehearsal for a concert but I did because it was MJ musical 🎶 🎤 🎼
Jim Morrison, singer of The Doors, wrote songs, but played no instrument. He conveyed his ideas the same way Michael Jackson did.
At the end of the day he was a great songwriter, there are thousands of great players who can endlessly noodle on their instruments but only a handful that can actually create something that impacts the general public!!
Michael was one of the best!
James Brown did the same thing, and it's amazing Michael had the same ability. Truly, Michael was the next JB.
They talk about it as though he composed The Ring Cycle.
Theyre 3 minute throwaway pop songs.
