    I have 2 camponotus pensylvanicus and they are for sure different, one is skiddish and has smaller brood, while the other doesnt seem bothered by much and has larger brood. I experimented to see if feeding them would make a difference, they were happy to take the cricket parts and honey, a day later they laid another 1/2 dozen eggs each. Apparently they are full now as they arent showing much movement lol...not dead, just focused on the eggs.

      Hello Ray. Well, there are differences even between Queens of the same species... Not all Queens are created equal. Like with humans, there are exceptional mothers and others that are not so good at it. Anyway, generally Queens sleep often during the day and try to consume as least energy as possible, so they can take care of their first workers. So your Queens are fine👍😉

    I have a small Camponotus pennsylvanica colony. I love the polymorphism and the queen is HUGE. I built a wood nest for this colony and they seem to love it but I have been concerned about not being able to water the nest. I’m so glad to learn that watering may not be necessary; I’ll be sure to keep a permanent water supply available in the outworld. Thanks for this great video!

    • @AntsVienna
      @AntsVienna  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello GardenGirl! Yes, Pennsylvanicus and Ligniperdus Queens are very impressive in terms of size. These Vagus do have the faster growth advantage. Anyway, not sure if C. Pennsylvanicus also act like Vagus in that watering aspect. I have noticed my colony bring in moist sand to the nest an exchange it when it dries. If your colony is doing something similar they should definitely be ok without you watering the nest. Hope this helps you out! :)

    • @AntsVienna

But I have heard from the community that Cruentatus are often a mixed experiece - some people have huge success with them and others don't manage to overcome 5 workers with colonies dying out. I haven't kept campnotus but I am trying to catch a mature colony of them

      I always suggest starting with a single queen (maybe +nanitics). This gives you the best feel about each ant species

      nothing wrong if you wish for something... just might be hard to find the queen of a mature colony, even harder than finding a queen during nuptial flights. wish you luck though!🍀🐜

      Catching a mature colony is a bad idea. It's best to get a young queen who just mated
      They are also easier to find. The first thing is to find a matured colony and wait for it's nuptial flights and pick up the young queens who have removed their wings
