Wow! What a beautiful day! That lake was magical. I love that you take the time to capture and label the plants and animals. The Flowers are beautiful! 🌸🧡
Thank you Flower 🙂 Always great to hear from you, appreciate all the info, learn alot from you on the identification of everything 👍Hope you have a wonderful day, stay safe and take care my friend 🙏 Appreciate you!
How is it that you know so many of the names of the fungi, the plants and the insects? I really like that aspect of your videos. Your tone of voice is such.a refreshing change of pace from the "hype" channels. It is soothing, as should be when one wants to contemplate the outroors. Thanks.
I'm so glad to hear that you enjoy my style :) I am a constant student of nature, and I love learning the names of flora and fauna. For the ones I don't already know, I use the free app iNaturalist, which has proved to be so valuable in identifications.
Love all the pics of wildlife and plants! Loons are my favorite! Back in the 90's I did a week long trip in the Boundary Waters Area (canoeing and portaging and camping). We saw and heard LOTS of Loons up there.
The variety of mushroom shapes is incredible. In the 100 mi wilderness I heard loons calling at 2 am and it was wonderful to share their home with them. Glad you're having a great hike.
Your lunchbreak spot was lucky indeed 💚 and to hear and see one of the sounds and sights I miss dearly at my old home in the mountains of Vermont is Loons. Their gracefulness, beauty and calls are amazing and something everyone should experience at least once in their life ❤ Thanks so much for sharing 🍀✌️ And making me homesick 😉😅 And that camping spot at Pierce Pond was beautiful and well worth the almost 20 miles you did. Beautiful reward for some big miles. You looked tuckered out but very happy to be there.
Wow! Very good vlog..really enjoyed it. Appreciate your taking the time to video all the creatures , plants and fungi and then telling us what they were..that's really cool. You knocked out some big miles. Thanks for video!
Thanks for the beautiful sights and sounds. Your educational commentary and thoughts of the day are invigorating. Much flora identified on this day. Thanks. In regard to mushrooms, some cultures believe that mushrooms are portals to other worlds. Others believe the mushrooms are simply used as dinner tables for fairies and that they are a sign of a fairy village underground. There is also the belief that mushrooms bring good luck. Lastly, scholars of Tolkien’s "Lord of the Rings" state that, in various ways, Tolkien paid homage to shamanistic culture and the psychedelic properties of certain mushrooms. As written, Hobbits loved mushrooms. Mushrooms offered some of Tolkien's imagery and motifs throughout the series. My favorite book of the pioneer days is called “Boone”. It is a biography of the life and times of Daniel Boone. In short, if starvation, disease, wild animals or Native Americans didn’t kill you, suicide did. Wilderness isolation often caused madness. With that in mind, due to experienced hardships, most men who served in the Continental Army were young between the ages of 15 and 30. The Continental soldier’s daily life that was defined by routine and fatigue. If on campaign, a soldier marched all day with a heavy load to carry. This might have included his musket, weighing 10 to 12 pounds, haversack, knapsack, cartridge box, and other personal items including a cup, bowl, spoon, canteen, and if lucky, an extra blanket. Of the 24,000 casualties during the Revolutionary War, 16,000 died of illness or starvation. During this era,I would say Darwinism played a role. If these people were hearty, when available, perhaps they were drunk on ale or rum, a typical drink, to numb their physical and mental sorrows. You are certainly not a wimp. You are strong willed, tolerant and resilient. Outstanding qualities! Cheers to you! Wonderful campsite. A nice reward for your strenuous effort. Be well. Wishing you safe passage over nature’s disruptive obstacles of roots, rocks, mud, steep slopes and water. May you experience peace and good fortune ahead. Happy Trails!
Thank you so much for your comment...the compliments and the info about mushrooms and history. I love learning about history, and I have so much respect for the people who came before us :)
I was surprised to hear them calling mid-day. I was just filming with an iPhone, so the quality isn't that great, especially when zoomed in...but if you can see it....the loon calls and then his/her chick swims out from the shoreline to meet him/her. Pretty cool!
Hey Sister, You and Jake need to come with me to camp one day on my favorite lake....where you stopped for a bit reminded me of my special lake in Canada.
Flower, I have been to Maine on a mission trip not too far from where you are hiking and it is just beautiful. I would love to section hike the entire state and, of course, to summit Katahdin but, alas, living in the South, it ain't the easiest place to get to. I have hiked many of the same miles you have on your journey but I so would love to hike Maine. Stay safe and God bless.
I am definitely not a mushroom expert, so the only ones I would really feel comfortable picking and eating are Chicken of the Woods and Chanterelles. I know a lot of Boletes are edible too. As a rule, I would never eat anything with gills underneath.
You have a propensity for locating scenic and serene places to eat lunch or a snack. That was indeed a beautiful place to camp after a day of hiking. Benedict Arnold was a talented military commander during the Revolutionary War and highly regarded by General George Washington prior to his defection to the British army. I believe the main reason that he became a traitor was the fact that many fellow officers were jealous of him and his wife was also a Tory. I am not attempting to make excuses for Arnold as he was indeed a traitor but it is too easy to dislike the man when you do not know all of the facts.

Big moles and you still capture the plants and little creatures. Stunning and thank you. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
You're most welcome!
@@loamseeker5230 I have no idea what I meant by moles. Maybe mountains. 😂😂😂
@@susietopspin I imagine you meant to type miles :)

Killer day! Thanks for your efforts in sharing.

If my my memory is correct, those two dead trees making an X in the swampy area were there in 2008 when I went through there
Haha, that's crazy! So cool that you remember that :)

Getting the loons calling in the background, wow!!

Not bad for two bad knees. Liked the frogs and toads.
So many toads!

Absolutely! Hopefully we can do a lot of adventures with you when we move there. Can't wait!

If you can get to Maine again....do it!! It really is beautiful....some difficult terrain, but some of my favorite that I've covered so far.
Toads and mycelium are a sign of a healthy ecosystem. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Definitely! The forest seemed very healthy there.
👍
Hi
would you let us know which of the mushrooms are poisonous?
I am definitely not a mushroom expert, so the only ones I would really feel comfortable picking and eating are Chicken of the Woods and Chanterelles. I know a lot of Boletes are edible too. As a rule, I would never eat anything with gills underneath.

I agree...I love history, and I like to try to put myself in the shoes of those people who came before us.
First view lol
