This solution works great! NUC was not turning on easily--or not at all, without unplugging and replugging many times. Now, it just fires up immediately! Problem fixed gratefully! New life for my wife's NUC!
Pretty amazing stuff! Last time it happened the NUC was still under warranty and I sent my unit to Intel for repair. This time, warranty expired, and you helped me fix the problem much faster than sending the unit over for repair. And saved me from buying a new device. Thank you!
This method of troubleshooting worked for me too.. My issue was probably the fan got clogged.. so i blew it and then tried switching ON and it came ON. Thank you very much for this video.
One update for you... check the voltage coming out of the lithium battery too. I went through all the steps that you outlined (super useful!) and found that the lithium in the unit was no longer pushing out 3V. I tested it and found it to be about 1/2 the juice needed. I replaced the 3V lithium battery with a Duracell CR2032 and my machine came back to life!
Grateful for your help with this video. I had power-on problems and it turned out to be the casing button not depressing the motherboard switch button far enough. Your advice on strip down and rebuild was invaluable, thank you.
Persevere this works! At first this procedure failed to solve my problem. I measured the power cord voltage - 19 volts. I used a contact cleaner - but no improvement. The switch still failed to provide power to the MB. But I noticed a very tiny blue LED light on the MB...I did have some power.(ahead of the switch?) As a last hope, I applied generous amount of cleaner to the switch and repeatedly pushed the switch button on the MB. I said "I'll leave it overnight" and see! Unbelievable...next day the power switch worked!!!! As a sidenote...time to replace the CMOS battery. And definitely time to do backups!!!
Thanks, contact cleaner did the job. Given the amount of people with similar issues (without spilling liquids) I'd assume the switches used by Intel to be of inferior quality. Thanks for sharing this solution.
Just thank you for this idea. I almost sent to the junkyard my NUC before finding your video and trying with the contact spray. And it made it ! So thank you, I never thought using the spray on the computer.
This is to say thanks very much. While the video is old it's just saved me from throwing a perfectly healthy Nuc, even if it's a bit old. I tried various things and the Nuc seemed dead (I never turn it off as it runs various services) but the PSU seemed fine. I double checked the ssd was good and healthy as had suspected damage when turning on power at my house after doing some electrical work which affected a router. However found your video for the same hardware I have and seeing the symptoms looked similar tried out your fix. Things are now back up and running. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot!!! I solved my problem with the power button. Used wd-40 contact spray for the Button. Now it works fine. Before the Procedere, I had to press the power on/off 50 times until the nuc started. I'm from Germany.
thank you for this video. I have 2 of these NUCs at work and trust me It is annoying when you start work and they don't power up. Initially it just happened to one of the units then sometimes it happens to the other one. Now I have an idea that it is really the power button. I have the luxury of switching the AC cords to test if they were the problems but I knew it was the flimsy power button. INTEL should own up to this. Our units never have been wet or something and they are just 3 years old with about 4 hours usage everyday. I hope I am able to find a contact cleaner like that or just bring it to the computer shop for cleaning. Thank you again for this video.
Thanks you! I had the same problem, but I wasn't able to save the button. So I soldered two wires to the legs of the button and pulled them outside the box. Then hooked a small button to the wires. Works great :-)
Same for me. I always need luck to turn on my NUC. But it’s been a week since I turned it on last time. I used contact cleaner to save the button this morning but no use. I’ll use multimeter to test the power switch. If it is indeed faulty, I’ll consider your solution, thanks for sharing. I’m from Taiwan.
I used multimeter to test the switch just now. The upper two pins are connected to the lower two pins when I press and hold the switch button. When I release the switch button, the connection is immediately off. Is it normal for this power switch? I guess the switch is working now. Somehow it cannot be turned on. I’ll check the CMOS battery anyway. I would appreciate if there is any advice. Thanks.
Great! Thank you! It was very long video but with very simple solution of my problem :) I am sure that i also have oxides in contact. Thank you! Will try it tomorrow
To make them so compact, these use miniature surface mount devices that are too small to carry component value markings. Also all the capacitors, diodes, inductors and resistors look the same. So, If one component burns-out , unless you have a pcb layout diagram you are screwed...
When using the blower you need to block the fan from spinning as the fan motor will act a generator and the fan power supply might not like having power fed into the output!
Hi Great video and solution. on my side one connector cable is broken (like in your video at 7:10 time) and since no video. What is the usage of this cable ? connector are very specific how to fix it ? thanks for your tips :)
it looks like a the WIFI antenna cable. You can fix it. its same wires in cellphone so you can get spares for that wire. If you dont have, you can use WIFI dongle via USB.
Same faulty but my switch is ok no moisture even use hot dryer i mistakly use faulty hard drive it got off no green led light please help me out how to start NUC d34010wykh raajjaiswal77@gmail.com
Thanks friend, you just showed how to fix mine which got rejected by Intel Service department because of expired 3 year warranty. I have the same issue with liquid on my SSD card. Did you figure out what that was? In my case I didn't remove the plastic cling film that came with the new machine. So there's no way liquid got inside from the button. I live in a very humid city so the button contacts must have oxidized. How did the SSD get liquid on it? I didn't get answers on the internet.
I couldn't get a close enough look at the contact cleaner spray to identify it, and the presenter's accent is odd enough to my ear that I cannot be sure I heard the second word correctly. Is this "Kontakt Chemie", the German product? I'm in the U.S.; would spray WD40 do?
its as you write it "Kontakt Chemie" www.kontaktchemie.com/KOC/KOCproductdetail.csp?product=KONTAKT%2060 This product is not a lubricant and is not similar to WD40 at all. Please do not spray WD40 on your electronics. Kontakt 60 removes oxidation and improves conductivity between metallic contacts. There are other brands offering similar function.
What happens if the power source regulator gets pushed to 24v from the 19v position ? It's not powering on at all how do I fix this, the power source is green but when plugged in it goes dim with the light on power source?
I really need help!!! My NUC 7i5BNH was working just fine and all of a sudden it turned off and won't turn back on. It doesn't respond at all. Please help me out!!! I need this NUC to work because it's my only way of income please!!! Thanks in advance!!!
Too bad. My NUC didn’t work either after I used KONTAKT to clean the switch. I used multimeter to test the switch and the upper two pins are connected to the lower two pins when I press and hold the switch. They are disconnected when I release the switch. I’m not sure if this is normal or not. I also replaced the CMOS battery. No use.

The nuc is not battery powered, so that is odd, indeed.

Thanks. Your tutorial helped me repair my kid's homeschooling computer in time for remote classes.
Thank you! This exact solution worked for me, I used WD-40 instead, waited a few minutes and the power button was working again!
I've had this with countless NUC's and I fixed it the same way. Thanks for putting it out there😁

Great solution. Also useful for Gigabytes Brix. Thanks
Thanks for the video. Just fixed my unit!
Top man, fixed in minutes.
Finger nail polish remover worked too. Just use a qtip and slather it, rub it, press it.
I tried everything but for me worked with some WD-40 just like at 08:55
and it fixed the problem
Thank you for this video. I was able to fix my nuc 👍
Thanks a lot. Wd40 worked.

Mine had a bright flash then died instantly. Any ideas? Is it cooked and dead for good due to power surge?
Could be your power supply. Do you have a multimeter to measure the output jack of your power cable?

mine was because my young children eat near their computer and often spill things.
