    Rasmussen 2018 and Keiino 2019 - both with Nordic ethnic elements, both robbed by the juries, "saved" by the televote. There must be some connection. Btw, Lordi won the contest in one of the years where there were no jury votes - I'm sure they wouldn't have won in the present system.

      Nah, the song was also overhyped to be fair. Anything that experience such hype so far ahead of the completion always tends to lose its momentum by the time the competition comes round (with the exception of Italy).
      For me La Venda was 22 out of the 41 songs this year...so it did gain a bit of momentum at the end but didn’t break the top 20 for me. It was just too raucous and a ‘colour by numbers’ typical Spanish song. That said, he performed well on the night. It just wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

    • @nursen2106
      @nursen2106 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't know about Malta- maybe because the opened the show? About Czech republic I have an opinion and let's say, a theory. I myself hate it, when in a live show with a big stage and huge audience, the producers try a kind of staging, that ends up looking like a video clip. that didn't work with the public at home the last three years. why would it work this year? I don't like it, when they do that at ESC and my theory is, that many also don't. Also remember, that these two countries don't have so many countries around 'naturally' rooting for them. If they don't stand out significantly they will have rather less points compared with other countries, that have neighbors, always giving them at least a few points (I am from Austria. We have the same problems like these two countries. ok we won a few years ago and last year also was a surprise. still the televoters had been lower and exceptions just proof the point - as we say in german)

    Spain loved Miki's performance, we don't blame him for the results. Actually, we love the criteria of the popular vote (14TH PLACE), BUT NOT THE JURY'S VOTE. I think we made one of the best performances in years and we brought the party to Eurovision. That's enough. I felt bad for Miki, he have worked a lot, so he deserved a better place, but being angry doesn't helps and is even against the message of the song. What will happen now is that Spain's song will be played in most of european countries for months and other ones that have better marks don't.

    I found Norway's staging perfect. It had neat camera angles, lovely lightning, cool LED images and some nice fireworks in just the right moments. It wasn't bland and empty, but it also wasn't over the top and tacky. And then their vocals were amazing and the song is just brilliant. It has a message, it has a touch of ethnic spice and the best thing of all, it's so catchy and uplifting.
    I voted multiple times for Norway simply because I liked it best, more than any other entry. As simple as that.
    P.S., just because a song isn't a touching ballad or isn't avantgarde, it doesn't mean it is not a quality song. Some ESC fans tend to underrate the QUALITY of Norway's song.

    I think with Norway, you are thinking from the perspective of a real Eurovision fan. Having watched the show with friends and family who have never seen the songs before, they unanimously declared Norway should be the winner. It was pop enough to appeal to the masses, but interesting and cultural enough to stand out amongst the more generic, forgettable stuff, and the vocals were on point. The staging was also stunning without being too invasive or overdone. They were all really lovely and gracious too. Basically, I think the idea of 'pity voting' only partially applies to Eurofans, and doesn't at all apply to the majority audience who are just casual watchers. You do not get 291 points just from pity votes.

    The thing about the Netherlands is that they actually came in second in the televote. So even though Norway won first place in the televote, it didn't feel too too off with the Netherlands taking the crown. They were obviously a worthy opponent. I said exactly the same thing under another video where the UK were being bashed. Give John Lundvik the UK song (which I know he wrote) and it probably would have made the top 10 also. There’s most definitely a huge lean towards Sweden and they seem to be given automatic preference year after year. That said, there’s no doubt that they really do send quality songs. Their Melodifestivalen format really does showcase some of the best music and the entire country gets behind it year after year, so this is probably why they do so well (away from the jury bias) but I think the public are starting to get tired of their dominance, and it shows in the last two or three years with the televoters.

      Maybe because they feel that the UK & Ireland had their moment of dominance over 20 years ago. In fairness when you look back, both countries were smashing it year after year. It may have just worn the public out? Thats when Sweden and Russia started to emerge as the front runners from 2000 onwards, but now I’m noticing the tide is turning against these two hugely successful countries via the televoting. It’s only just started but it’s apparent. It’ll be interesting to see how it shapes up over the next 5 years.
      Ps: I loved the Irish song this year...I just felt she didn’t perform too strongly. It didn’t deserve to end dead last though! There were far worse that did better

      I think looking at the results there's no possible way they could win the televote if people didn't genuinely just love the song. But during the weeks leading up and even during the final there just wasn't that much buzz around Norway's entry.... like at all. People thought it might be a non-qualifier that's how little buzz there was for Norway.

    • @kikiriki3309
      @kikiriki3309 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      99% of the people voting and watching do not follow the buzz in the weeks before. This is the mistake this analysis made. Ordinary people don't think that deeply about Eurovision. We see an act. We love it. We vote for it because we want it to win.
      We voted for Norway. Period.

    • @yepitsthatguy5278
      @yepitsthatguy5278 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that people just vote for whoever they want and most eurovision fans vote for one song that they feel the most entertained by. But I'm not talking about 'buzz' in terms of like the journalist teams, critics or the few superfans that were at the Eurovision arena in Tel Aviv. I'm talking about like online, the hundreds of thousands of people tweeting live during the Eurovision Semi-Finals. Yes most people who watch the Final are not people that watch the SemiFinal too, but to me it's still shocking that during Eurovision week there was so little online buzz for Norway and yet they literally won their Semi Final and Final. All the critics and juries would have put Norway higher if they knew the public responded so well to Norway but literally no-one knew lol

    Hello People! Congratulations to The Netherlands and Italy! They were the best! But I have so many negative thoughts about Eurovision ! Where to start from?
    So Norway was 1st in the televote but juries had them in 11th place of the Semi final? Seriously?
    Also They give so much power to juries in order to vote to neighbours or based on political criteria.
    Sweden again and again was so high in juries . I am mean first place? Was a good song but not the best!
    Also I can’t understand why people BOO Greece and Cyprus for exchange 12 points ( when the share the same language , history, etc.) when this happen ->
    Azerbaijan => 12 points to Russia
    Russia => 12 points to Azerbaijan
    Malta => 12 points to Italy
    San Marino => 12 points to Italy
    Croatia => 12 points to Italy
    Montenegro => 12 points to Serbia
    Albania => 12 points to North Macedonia
    Serbia => 12 points to North Macedonia
    Denmark => 12 points to Sweden
    Finland => 12 points to Sweden
    Serbia=> 12 points to Montenegro
    Jury from Serbia : 1-1-1-1-1 to Montenegro in the semi final.
    Jury from Armenia : 17-17-17-17-17 to Azerbaijan in semi final and 26-26-26-26-26 to the final.
    Jury from Azerbaijan : 17-17-17-17-17 to Armenia in the semi final and 1-1-1-1-1 to Russia.
    Jury from Moldova to Romania : 1-1-1-1-1 in semi final.
    Jury from Georgia to Russia 26-26-26-26-26
    Lina Hedlund from Swedish jury had in last place The Netherlands in semi final but she had The Netherlands in first place in the final? WTF people?
    Also juries from Montenegro had Greece in 1-2-1-6-2 (first place overall) in semi final and in the final 25-7-25-26-25.
    same with Cyprus : 2-4-2-3-6 in the semi final from Montenegro but 24-4-6-18-4 in the final. I mean this is the reason why also greek jury gave 6 points to Montenegro ( who had a bad song objectively ) and Cypriot jury gave 4 points. All juries talked to each other and guess what happened…..
    Also it’s so funny that North Macedonia ( don’t judge me , I like the song! ) was every year in last place of juries but this year after joining NATO was second in the Final higher than The Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and Australia.
    I can continue all day with these strange things …. It’s clearly a political contest and ‘love contest between neighbours’. I hope some countries like Spain , Portugal( last in the juries in the semi final) ,Greece ( I mean Greece was one of my favorites and I see that all the northern countries had Greece in the last places in Televoting below Germany , UK, San Marino etc.) .
    Also I am laughing that San Marino with a 5 minutes song was 10th in televoting but Romania ,Armenia, Poland ,Hungary disqualified.. maybe Turkish diaspora? I don’t know . Have a good day .

      Great post. Thanks for all the details. Clearly put - you can´t make the jury´s deficits any more obvious than this. If all five people of one national jury vote exactly the same - there´s something that smells fishy. The EBU should look into this.
      So don´t feel too bad about the booing, Greece and Cyprus are just the most obvious ones to the big public, many countries have done the neighbour voting and still do it. Russia has been booed for many years, this has died down. And there have been booes for Hatari showing the Palestinian flag. What those booes were for still is not totally clear to me. Thank you for your level of detail. You've evidently spent some time on that; as much as I analyse and write about the scoring, I've never compared semi-final and jury final ranking. In fact, once the final is over, I pay little attention to the nitty gritty of the semi-final results as, in my opinion, they're irrelevant once the final is over and overall winner is known. Just one point though, Romania ,Armenia, Poland ,Hungary were ELIMINATED (knocked out) in the semi-finals, not disqualified. Disqualified means declared ineligible to take part in a competition, e.g. for breaching the rules somehow. The songs of all the said countries complied with the ESC 2019 rules, but they failed to qualify for the final.

    So rude of the guy with the headphones to say "I think the televoters thought of Norway like, Its a good song, we should vote for it cause they will need it since nobody else will vote for it"?? What about respecting and accepting that people liked it. I'm fed up about this EsC-fan/blog/journalists who thinks they know what is good or not. They are the ones creating this talking about it being a "joke act", that the song isnt good enough, people wont vote for it, that it is a guilty pleasure (as If you should be ashamed of liking it) and that the song is trash etc. All songs doesnt have to be ultra modern and hip (in your eyes) and fit a certain box to be considered a good song. There were lots of songs you hyped that wasnt close to being modern or any better than Keiino's song.

    Norway is my number#01 and one of my favourites ESC Songs of all time!
    Of course, I'm really happy it won the televote. But at the same time I'm a bit angry it "only" end up 5th because of the jury.
    Just imagine your absolute favourite won the televote but got robbed because of some "music professionals"..

    Those big point differences between the jury and televote, really show that we all judge the songs differently. We all have a different taste, everyone finds others things important. One person will only focus on the song, a different person on the quality of the singer etc. There will always be disagreement about the scores and winner.

      It doesn't work by adding places together and averaging them. For each finalist, you add the two sets of points (jury and televote) together. All sorts of anomalies can occur with places. The UK finished 24th in the jury vote (13 points) and 25th in the televote (3 points), but still ended up 26th overall with a combined score of 16 points.

    hi guys, thanks for the video - could you please comment on following fact? I just read on wikipedia about the incident during KEiiNO´s act at the jury´s final. There had been technical problems, the screen went black twice during the performance. The broadcaster NRK complained officially to the EBU and requested to repeat the performance. The EBU did not meet that request. Given the extreme difference in voting, i.e particularlarly a very low jury vote, isn´t this some kind of issue?

    • @sharkfinn4
      @sharkfinn4 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They seem to have had a similarly high discrepancy in the semi final, though. 1st with the public. 11th with the juries. Do you know if they had technical issues in their jury semi final performance as well? (not sarcasm. Genuinely curious)
