  • This filament spool winder is designed to transfer filament from one spool to another.
The files for this design can be found on Printables.com under the V3 Precision profile.
Fully printed Spool Winders can be found at the V3 Precision website V3Precision.com.
Full instructions and recommendations can be found on Printables and on the website.

I printed it out over several days with a mix of PLA "waste" spools. It works great! I have it taped down to a table, sketchy but it works. I have had one part break due to fatigue; the screw of the spool winding gear. I reprinted it in CF-PLA, so far no problems. I have several cardboard spools from Protopasta that I am transferring for the AMS. Thanks for this great build!

Actually, i had to find a winder solution because a Bambu lab spool was too wide! As someone completely brand new to 3D printing, it was confusing trying to figure out why it wasn't working.

Is it me or are the scaling sizes a bit wonky? The .stl files are set to 100% scale are are tiny. the .3mf versions are scaled to about 2600% but look about the size I would expect. I am using Cura 5.4.0 as the slicer. Randy did a fantastic job on this, thank you! Looking forward to printing this out an using it. In my case it will be to join nearly empty spools together a assure I won't run out mid print 😁

Could you make a higher/taller mount so we could wind 2,5kg filament spools on 1kg spools? Would be very nice, so i could use my old 2,5kg filament and also dry it. I bought the 2,5kg spool because it was much cheaper compared to a 1kg

first couple attempts to print the worm gear failed so tip use prusa slicer scale it a little longer and print on its side with tree supports if u stand it up it will take 4hrs plus but on its side 2hrs plus ps im using mk4 with input shaper normal printers will take longer

I really like your idea on this. I have some ABS I'll print this with and see how well it works. I also want to get with you about some files I would like to have made. I'll definitely pay you for your time on it.

The thing I didn't like about the other popular one is he had it set to .2 instead of .177, so the spool didn't get wound nice and clean. This one seems to have the potential to dial it in to exactly the right spacing. But it would have to be closer to the receiving spool to force it to lay it down perfectly. I do like the direction you are headed though. That is a LOT of CAD work.

This one works but can use some improvements. Hopefully the next version will have some significant design improvements. 👍

Would you please share the stl file for this? It looks less complicated. Thank you kindly!

Randy on your spool_winder_remix-2 I got from printables, I see the winder filament guide is in two pieces using pins, is that now one piece?

Would you be able to make it so i can transfer filament from a 3kg spool on to a 1kg spool if possible

The receiver drive caps are too weak to allow them to be tightened enough to work. The adapter plates don’t grip the spool to spin it. I don’t see how this is supposed to work, using the profiles you set up for the parts.

You are a brilliant engineer, hat's off you. There are two other critical problems that your idea helps with.
First incorrectly wound spools which cause a print to fail only because one line of filament got entangled with another above it.
Second broken or cracked spools where you cannot put them on a roller and use only because the round corners are broken/ cracked.
So you have two more strong reasons for making your project 😊
    Thank You from India 🎉

Very good video your comments are useful. Do you really need the annoying background music? Thank you for sharing your experience.

The music isn’t in the background, it’s over the top. It’s rubbish, not needed. Cheers.

The threads don’t allow for it to tighten enough to spin the receiving spool. So far it’s a very cool waste of space

This is the first thing I printed on my new P1S, the only problem I had was the Cam, (failed 3 times, then used Creality hi speed black and it printed perfectly) The other problem I had is when printing the middle part, the overhangs are pretty terrible, (the "eyes" at the top) even using your suggested printer settings. This printer does not like overhangs. I printed this using PLA, partly Bambu but mostly the black hi speed from creality. The Bambu P1S was set for standard speed. Maybe using carbon fiber or nylon would work better? or just have a machined aluminum model......I'd buy that! th-cam.com/users/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f642.png

I'd 3d print the tube too so i don't have to buy one
