  • In this video AJ walks the new people through the basics of gearing and what to look for when changing the gearing in an RC. AJ covers the hows and whys of the issue and talks about everything from pinion size to tire sizes and how the affect the amp draw and power consumption. From heat related issues to speed, AJ walks you through the basics to get you on your feet as soon as possible. Come along as we add yet one more video to our 101 playlist.

      I think he has been doing this many, many years or he is an Eisteine. I'm hope AJJam will do a video on steering shims and how to tighten up the 3s BLX line up ..

    This is a great video and I learned a lot from you (and subscribed!) but, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't "1C" equal to the total amp hours of the battery? i.e.: for a 5200 mAh battery 1C == 5.2 amps and thus a 50C, 5200 mAh battery would be able to provide 50 x 5.2 amps max. Am I wrong? You seem to imply that "50C == 50 amps" regardless of the mAh, but I totally could be missing something! Again, great video!

      That is not how it works. The C rating has little to do with capacity. You can have a 5200 mAh battery in 20c or 120c. Power draw or amps is the safe amount of current the battery can handle without damage. What you refer to is charging amps. For a 5200 mAh battery 5.2 amps is the max charging amps you should use. A 2000 mAh should use 2.0 charging amps and so forth. This has nothing to do with the C rating. I hope this helps and thanks for asking. You should check out RC batteries 101 in our 101 playlist. It’s informative 😎👍

    Wd-40 is a great maintenance formula., By the Air Force long ago to prevent & protect against rust, just be careful where you spray because it will eat up many types of glue, double sided and adhesives by drying out the moisture, after several X's.

    I'm looking at gears online for my SCX10 6X6 so I can get a general idea of what to get at my local hobby store and I've noticed some gears have a pitch number and others don't. What exactly is the gear pitch? I've seen 32p, 36p, I think maybe even a 48p, I can't remember. If a spur gear has a 32p, does the pinion also have to have a 32p in order to work properly? What about the gears that don't have a pitch number? Can I use a 15T pinion with an 87T spur if both gears don't have a pitch number listed and are made of steel?
    My 6X6 has a dual motor set-up (I'll be using 2 brushless) mounted to the single speed transmission and all 3 differentials are spool type. I have 2.2 wheels with aggressive, deep cleats in the rubber for maximum climbing capability mounted on straight axles (not portal).

    I have a Team Associate Sc10 2WD with 87T spur and 17T pinion mated to 12-turn 550 Traxxas Titan brushed motor. It burned down Radiolink Cool 9030 (90A rated) and ISDT ESC70 (70A rated) escs on both 2S and 3S LiPo batteries at 50C rating. I went to a hobby shop, and they told me to up the pinion gear so it wouldn't pull so much amperage because smaller pinion is higher torque = higher amperage true

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not true. More resistance = higher amp draw. Bigger pinion = more resistance.

    Friend, please help me, I'm new to car modeling, I built an onroad car, with a 64pitch pinion with 40T, and a 64pitch 96T spur gear, I use a hobywing 10bl120a esc, the futaba 3pv radio has the end point at 100%, the 10.5T Brushless engine for 1/10 cars in the few laps I drove, the spur gear damaged all the teeth, how can I be doing so that this doesn't happen?

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gear setup is touchy at times. Making sure your components are all using the same pitch is one issue that can pop up. Also the spacing between the gears is critical as well. Then there is the parts themselves, plastic, aluminum, or steel. Some hold up better than others.

    9:16 : sorry but I think you make a mistake with C rating to get the amperage you have to multiply C rate by the battery capacity
    5200MAh x 20C = 5.2Ah x 20C = 104A
    your battery can provide 104A and not 20A - 1C is not equal to 1A
    I (current of discharge ) = rated energy batt (Ah) x C rate
