Hi fellow Kiwi, I'm ready now 😅 to tackle investment and retirement with a smarter attitude if you can give some practical advice for nz in a video. I've just reread barefoot investor, and the family one too , I'm debt and mortgage free (sold investment property to pay off other with capital ) but need to do serious renos like roof replacement. Low income but frugal

Welcome aboard! That is exciting news that you are completely debt free including the mortgage- sounds like you are on a similar path to us. How far away are you from retirement? I would love to do a video all about what we are doing/have done to get ready for retirement- watch this space :-)

10:25 I would fascinated to see you work the same budget but assuming the cost of a average priced rental of similar size to what you have in your area. I can tell you that just my rent takes 60% of my income, and because I've been there many years the rent has increased slower than market rates - which have jumped at least 30%, probably more like 40 in the last 12 months. I don't see that situation reversing - maybe stabilising...hopefully? Just saying that while I have about the same to budget, no consumer debt and I've reduced my bills to the bone the rent kills it, and I suspect if I still had a mortgage I'd be feeling the same pain.

Hi @TheJoyNinja, thanks for the comment- I hear you! Rent and mortgages etc are such a chunk out of the budget. I like the idea of doing an alternate budget with other factors considered that aren't applicable to me but are to someone else.
I know I definitely wouldn't be able to rent the same house/size/area etc though- rent around here is about $850 a week- eek!!! It's one of the things that drives me mad in NZ- that housing is treated like it's a privilege rather than a right.

Hi again, just a thought....would you like me to have a go with a budget using your income/rent/expenses etc and see how I might do it differently? It can just be private via email not on you tube if you want. My email is: nzmoneykarma@gmail.com if you're open to the idea??
