semblance of sanity sos bros Delicious in Dungeon Season 1 Episode 13
I love that in most fantasy, wizard hold their staff like, you know, a staff.
Marcille alternates between holding it like a tennis racket and an AR-15.
😂
Her favourite spell is ala-KABLAM!
the ghosts didnt get subtitles, they said "it's okay, don't worry"
Chilchuck gets all the best screams :D
What's actually hilarious is how the show dances around the term "Dungeon Master." They can't say "Dungeon Master" because that term is trademarked by Wizards of the Coast, so they instead use "Lord of the Dungeon." The lunatic magician can literally control monsters, control the very environment of the dungeon itself, and he even has a huge book in front of him. He's an in-universe Dungeon Master with his own ties to the story. He's the Dungeon Master's self-insert!
Oh wow. I didn’t even realize that. That is so cool!
More of a translation thing if I'm not mistaken, Kui hadn't had much direct contact with anything D&D prior to writing Dungeon Meshi, her inspiration came from the Wizardry games, and she later first interacted with D&D through the first 2 Baldur's Gate games.
@@leonardomarquesbellinino she actually said in an interview awhile ago that she would read the d&d rule book as inspiration for dungeon meshi. i think she might've played it before as well but im not entirely sure on that
@@gristen never saw that interview, but I know as a rule of thumb D&D is fairly niche in Japan, and most fantasy writers from there would have experience with games inspired by D&D rather than D&D itself. The exception to that is Lodoss, which was specifically translated from a D&D campaign by the SNE group.
@@leonardomarquesbelliniyea ryoko kui just seems to be part of that niche i guess lol. in the interview she listed off a bunch of her inspirations and favorite games and media and there was a lot of stuff on there that seems like it might be a bit out of the mainstream in japan. the interview was translated into english so you should be able to find it if you look for it
Chilchuck deeply cares about the party even though he often times act like he's only there for the money. He also has a hard time putting his kindness into words so ends up sounding harsh or cowardly. He sees the realistic risks of the dungeon and how dangerous it can be to base decisions based on emotions. I think this episode helped show who Chilchuck really is by having him talk with someone that is not a party member.
He is a man of word. He only receive payment in advance but once he received he'll stick with the team to the end of term. Also, his "daddy sense" kicked in and couldn't leave them alone in the dungeon.
I Love how gracefully dungeon meshi walks the line between funny chaos and serious horror
The slow escalation of visceral action was very gradual as you said, it started with simply butchering animals, then Marcille gets hit by the undine, then we see Namari get her head blown off... which all leads to this moment.
Don't forget about skinning frogs and wearing their flesh. Also, how is this comment 6 days ago?

i dont think you guys remember but, King Delgal is the one who said whoever clears the dungeon/defeats the lunatic magician will get the gold kingdom. the lunatic magician never offered anyone anything.
Firstly, Chilchuck is a whole entire mood. Secondly, This "go back and then return" plan makes so much sense for the party since the time-crunch of getting to Falin while there's still something left of her to resurrect is no longer a factor. I mean, yes, it's gonna suck for Falin to be in thrall to this Mad Mage and biomagically overwritten with dragon stuff, but as long as she's serving the mage's purposes in finding the king or whoever, there's minimal chance she's going to be killed out of hand or dissolve into unresurrectable goop.
I love that you guys said this was built up because anime onlys seem to think it came out of nowhere.
Nah man this show love to drop forshadow everytime and if people pay attention you know they smartly built it up
Really? I'm anime-only but everything seems like a logical progression to me.
I'm so glad I started this anime on a whim. I went in completely blind and got invested so much. Most of the characters feel like real people that make logical choices for their character. Every plot prorogation feels earned and natural.
We've technically known about the lunatic magician from the very first episode. Not the show's fault he didn't identify himself in episode 6. The audience should maybe try to think about the elements being presented in the show and maybe ask questions.
Yeah, I saw a reactor assume it was anime only content?? Like why would the show go in such a direction if they were making stuff up?
"Because Laios is a dog guy"
....Heh.
The rolls of prepared dragon meat rolling down into the pool of blood with the namecard following along with them remains my favorite gag in the entire series. Great bit of comedy in a serious scene.
The thing the mad mage is looking for is Delgal. Delgal's dead. Has been since the prologue of episode 1.
Remember at the start you said you were surprised that Studio trigger picked up this show?
I think the reason why is starting to become clear haha
The director caught on really early on that he wanted Trigger to adapt this, and it's the studio's first time adapting any manga series! I don't know if they approached Ryoko Kui before doing that short animated promo for one of the volume releases, but for a long time, I and a lot of other fans of the series thought she was against the series being adapted ever
You guys are misremmbering: the mad mage NEVER offered anyone ANYTHING. A figure appeared, told people of the dungeon and of the mad mage, told them to kill the mage and if they did they cna have the kingdom before turning to dust and dying.
the mad mage doesn't WANT people there. that's why he tried to KILL THEM.
33:31 Fun-fact: In Japanese, '介-SUKE' is used for male name. It is an old-fashioned name and sound like for boys of samurai families. ‘剣-KEN’ meaning is a sword. so ‘ken-suke’ is very make sense name for Japanese😊
A nice bit of foreshadowing we got was Kensuke fleeing from Falin like it only reacts to other monsters. And Falin clutching her throat and closing an eye when she was first revived.
waaait i never noticed the eye and throat thing before oh my god...... ive watched so many reactions to this and read the manga and this is the first time ive seen anyone even mention this 🤯
OMG…🤯
What I love MORE than my previous comment is possibly the cutest orc girl in all of fantasy historx
Fun fact about Kensuke - "Ken" means Sword. So Kensuke is literally just a silly name Laios gave to... the sword.
It's like Power naming her cat Nyako in Chainsaw Man.
In the official English translation of the manga they keep the name “kensuke” and add a translator’s note explaining the name- which added a lot as a reader! But it got me thinking about what some good localizations would be (given that Laois as a character isn’t Japanese, and is even meant to be a little ignorant about Eastern cultures). I think something like “swordy” would’ve fit really well lol
@@aliciaz6224 Yeah translation note is just not a great way for official subtitle. Swordy would be good! But I think there's also a gag in that everything in the setting is so Western medieval high fantasy and there's this sword named oldschool braindead Japanese name.
I heard the VA of Laios in English is also ASD, so he put a lot of his own feelings into his performance.
Also, I heard ppl mention Kabru has a bit of an Indian accent and it’s nice to get an Indian/Nepalese coded character who doesnt have a super thick accent for a change.
Honestly it would be so cool if they all have different accents, considering everyone other then Senshi is not speaking in their mother tongue. And Laios is likely Northern European coded, chilchuck speaking multiple languages could’ve been represented more interestingly, for some reason English dub in anime always sounds so unnecessarily dramatic and slow…
@@Huhu0137 I think the reason why anime dubs sound weird could be because a lot of eng dubs seem to be trying to mimic the cadence of the original Japanese audio.
@@Huhu0137I'll forever preach that the way 4Kids did One Piece was (aside from all the censorship) very good - I love that all the characters had different accents and the like
This episode is my favoritebecause Chilchuck opens up a bit. Its like one of those campfire moments in dnd where two players are on nightwatch and they just talk.
Yo I'm kinda new to this channel but is it normal for these guys to get the actual keys and the stakes that the world of the show offers? like damn, these guy's WIS must be above 10 pts or something.
These guys have a knack for getting things very correct and very wrong at the same time. Because they often use a lot of good deduction but then later misremember stuff. Probably among the best reaction channels on TH-cam!
They're always either spot on or completely off base lmao no in between
I'm confused why Caleb says the Mad Mage is a separate character from the Lord of the Dungeon and that we still need to find the Lord.
he just misunderstood what was being said a little it seems. he'll get it as the story moves along
he seems to have completely mixed up details and took the mention of the king as "ah right of course the king must be the lord of the dungeon"" and thus thinks the story is more compplicated than it actually is
like many reactors and such these guys can be very smart and understand shit, and then in the same breath just COMPLETELY misunderstand what is happening entirely and make up an entiely different plot in their heads
Turning Point 1
the Chilchuck and Leed chapter is one of my favorites of this part. I love how Chil tries to hide his feelings by basically making himself the bad guy, his whole "I'm a coward and they're all idiots and I won't let them get me killed", and she sees right through him after knowing him for what, a few minutes? and the final conversation with Laios, where chilchuck looks so small kneeling there. idk he finally was vulnerable for a minute and I love how it's all handled.
also doggos
Chilchuck the 🐐
It only gets better from here
I love how the comedic aspects of the show really work to enhance the drama and the emotion of the characters, and Chilchuck is the best character for this intraspection thanks to his straight man characterization. Initially this episode somewhat escaped my attention with the classic sakuga-action-horror-madness of the preceding two, but watching it again and hearing your amazing insights really hit me in the feels with how amazing an emotional episode this is.
Lowkey got a lot of good laughs out of this lol. Yeah they coulda better off do a hide and seek here with ghostly twists but this is fine, very casual sidemen sunday is fine every now and then
25:56
I love how he can still misremember the premise even after watching it twice.
yeah cause the guy trying to mruder them all TOTALLY wants random dipshits to come into his dungeon for no reason and give them the kigndom despite actively searching for the king and thus not wanting to give the kingdom to people XP
also adding some random nonexistent wish cause this is apaprently dragonball
I love how you guys had absolutely no idea what was coming lol
tsundere chilchuck ❤
Technically now the dragon is in falin
So the Mad Mage is looking for King Delgal. Somehow though you missed that Delgal is long dead, he was the prince-then-king in the paintings Laios went into. So this mage is indeed mad, looking for someone who has been dead for hundreds of years.

This ep made chilchuk my absolute favourite, i just love him so much!
He is such a tsundere who really cares for them and actually a level headed one and being sassy.
I swear if anything happens to him I'll hate this show forever!😭😭
lol the after discussion though, Jacob's facial expression was like, "Bro, let me talk too" and I was thinking of Mercille's facial expression on that BBQ XD
i love chief's sister so much shes so pretty and smart
36:18 Caleb pulls a laios
At last the crux of the story begins
Regarding the show's dub, I'm currently watching the French dub (just finished season 1 hence why I'm binging your videos now) and it, too has been phenomenal. Netflix really outdid themselves with this show.
Love your reactions guys! Keep it up!
yamete-
In the next chapters return to the plot more of our non-villain, maybe villainous, not a bad person but definitely not good, and potential antagonist but perhaps a good ally who is too strong but who loses all the time.
End of disc 1 save Falin..part 2. I love this show so damn much!
7:26 and now we got the "Human Transmutation" scene 😅
Where do people give them recommendations for new things to watch? I want to recommend Kubikiri Cycle since I think it would be a great fit for them, but it's very obscure so I don't imagine anyone else would be recommending it and I'm not confident it would even win any polls. It's insanely good though and as fans of Monogatari I imagine they would have a great time watching it
On their patreon
It is actually the only episode, there they didn’t cook anything. Maybe to make a transition to a more serious staff. Also it is like a halfway in 1st season.
the Orcs "cooked" the Orc Concoction.
Great reaction!

Why do you refer to the Lunatic Magician with "they/them" pronouns? The show already established him as, well, him -- just use the pronouns already given
When ppl consume media, not everyone is thinking with gender in mind. They likely read “he” once, but likely wasn’t paying attention to it so they just default to they/them until they he appears again and confirms it. There was a LOT going on in the episode
They probably didn't realize, they/them is fine when in doubt
It's the themergy
@@Muxeroth I mean, they referred to him as "him" multiple times in both this episode and the paintings one, so I don't see where the doubt comes from
@@Hallasammal You mean being gender non-conforming? Huh, didn't think looking slightly more effiminate changes your gender but okay
Please watch Girls band cry!!
Here is a quote from a Tumblr user about Dunmeshi that I absolutely adore. prokopetz: "The important thing is that Marcille did not learn to blaspheme against the natural order to save her girlfriend. She just happened to have studied the art of spitting in God's eye for wholly unrelated reasons, and when the opportunity by chance arose to employ that skill in service of girlfriend-saving, she was ready"
I’m only at episode 13 or something but she and the mad mage are supposed to be parallels, huh?
Not her girlfriend, word from the author
“finally a chance to use my degree”
@@ma.2089 He is 100% her foil. When you see his motivations and how far Marcille is willing to go, it becomes more and more obvious. The major antagonists to the story are purposefully foils for Marcille and Laios.
@@ma.2089it literally brought up in the latest episode (22), that lunatic magician, actually learn dark magic to protect his clise friend/family.
basically he was searching any practical magic that can be used even if that magic was questionable.
what makes him more bad than marcille is, he was surrounded by more easy access to knowledge, and while he learnt forbidden spell and already engrossed with it, it was far too late to make him stop.
