He was artistic director of the Cologne Philharmonic from 1983 to 1999, of the Carnegie Hall New York from 1999 to 2001, of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2001 to 2002, and of the Ruhr Piano Festival from 1996 until his death. He died on November 14, 2023. The concert in the Cologne Philharmonic on March 19, 2023 was the birthday concert for his 75th birthday. This is the reason why this video is also a personal and a historical document.
