      I challenge you to find something good about the Star Wars Holiday Specials. Why? Because until Disney retconned them out, each and every one of them were canon. Every. Single. One. If you can't find anything good about them, then answer me this? Is any part of Legends being canon worth the Holiday Specials staying canon?

    I can definitely see this happening if Darth Bane happened to come across and train Maul. Especially being trained as a proper apprentice as opposed to being Palpatine's lackey and personal assassin instead of being a proper apprentice. That said Bane would have no qualms in teaching Maul Force Lightning or other more advanced dark side techniques. The real question would be if Maul still learns and uses Teras Kasi.
    Nice job on this one SWRC.

    Darth maul had said he would have had no idea how to carry out the sith plan if sidious somehow died and he was the only sole sith lord left in existence, I think if Darth bane had trained him he would have provided more knowledge about the siths overall plans and would have prepared him for a bigger role for the events to come, under banes tutor ledge he would have been more than a sith assassin, he would have had the confidence to continue the sith plan to overthrow the republic

      Maul was more than a mere Sith Assassin like Asajj Ventress, he was a true Sith Lord, given the title of Darth, referred as a rival Sith Lord, trained in all ways of the Sith -- including manipulation and accumulating as much power as possible; he was patient, calculating, and highly adept. Maul's knowledge of the Sith was immense after his time on Malachor, arguably more than Vader: "You have unlocked the secret of the temple, how did you accomplish this?" Maul was proficient in Nightsister Magicks and spells, such as when he merged his mind with Ezra. He also knows extremely forbidden knowledge like fusing Sith and Jedi holocrons, which I doubt even Sidious himself knew. Maul's power and knowledge of the dark side was so that he could survive being bisected and dumped onto Lotho Minor for twelve years -- where he held metal together to create spider legs for himself, constantly relying in the Force to do-so. The abilities primarily in question are Mecha Deru and Force Drain. I agree that Sidious kept a lot about the grand plan from him, but he didn't keep everything from him: "Ah yes, so [The Clone Wars] began -- without me." I just finished reading Maul Lockdown, and somehow gained an even greater fascination with the character. Can't wait to read Shadow Hunter when it arrives in my mail, in the meantime I'm reading Darth Plagueis for the first time.

    • @dylanemery9855

      @@phantomsidious2934 Eh, I disagree that Sidious didn't have plans for Maul, at least in Canon: "I was destined to become... So much more." And of course as previously stated about his knowledge of The Clone Wars and his role he was supposed to play in it. Sidious -- even though he has Vader -- states: "Maul was a loss," which only further adds to Sidious' plans for Maul. Maul was his chosen apprentice long before Vader, Sidious planned to complete his training after Plagueis was killed, but Maul had been bisected and was perceived dead. Sidious in Lockdown states: "I alone grasp your true potential." Maul in Lockdown also states something regarding himself as Sidious' eventual successor, implied to be stated by Sidious himself. I can't think of the specifics, but it was somewhere in the middle of Maul Lockdown. I haven't read too many Star Wars books, I have a few coming in like Shadow Hunter and Ahsoka, currently I've read Maul Lockdown, Shadow Conspiracy, and am currently reading Darth Plagueis. Do you know of any Star Wars books that I could read that are worthwhile? I'm on the fence about getting the Thrawn books, I just don't entirely know what to expect, but I do like his character's analytical nature.

Sidious has plans for him during and beyond the clone wars, we just don't know what they were. I would love to see the new Maul comics or some other comics to explore Sidious's plans for Maul. He most likely needed to change them after Maul's defeat, and saw Dooku as opportunity to proceed with a new one, most definitely an easier plan.

    Form 6 is kind of an odd one out. On the other hand it's been discarded many because of it's "jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none" status. Jedi master cin drallig told straight that it's not the form that is most worthy of study. However, some of the best swordsmen of the galaxy (like Exar Kun) have found the way to apply and be extremely successful with it. Also, considering that Jedi have tendecy of neglecting combat aspects of the force, something that form 6 is dependent it seems, it might just be that form 6 drawbacks are result of bad application of it rather than the form itself being weak.

Who blueprinted the republic’s usurpation and the Jedi order’s destruction. Palpatine would have done nothing if Bane didn’t set everything up perfectly for him to do so. Nothing. You’re an Idiot. You’ve just proved it. Good job. You’ve proven how little you really know. No, it was not “proven in Plagueis” at ALL. Not even slightly. Darth Bane WAS able to chest death, he actually knew HOW, plaguies was not. Darth Bane, Andeddu, Vitiate, And technically Sidious are the only ones who actually knew how to chest death with essence transfer. Bane was able to show himself as a Darkside spirit just like Ragnos was, In canon made directly by Lucas and filoni at that, not some old comic written by Tom Veitch, the worst writer in Star Wars history and the same idiot that contradicted everything about Star Wars with dark empire. That’s why I said “technically” with Sidious. Because Dark Empire doesn’t exist. It never happened. Lucas said it himself. That it contradicts the entire ending of the saga , and that it does not take place in the actual Star Wars universe. Tom Veitch THEN goes on to blatantly contradict himself AGAIN, and horribly I might add, in those same comics you’re referring to, completely contradicting Naga Sadow’s entire story, about him being some lifeblood who “rebelled against Ajunta Pall and the original Dark Lords” lmao. He’s a complete idiot. Stop trying to use things that were put together worse than a monkey could do and contradicted every other word it even said as a “sOuRcE”......... Yea, Marka Ragnos was powerful af sure , but he was NOWHERE near the level of Darth Bane and Darth Sidious. Period. That cannot be argued.

    While I typically agree with your decisions on your videos, I must argue over this. As we know, Sidious was sincerely afraid of the Jedi and wanted to humiliate them as much as possible. We know this from dialogue as well as by the material from his lightsabers. So when he began training Maul, his apprentice was to be the the very embodiment of the dark side and everything that sith stand for. I believe Sidious trained Maul in the use of the saber staff for a couple reasons. One being that the weapon is especially effective against multiple enemies. This we witness in Phantom Menace. Another reason I believe the weapon was viable for the apprentice is that the saber staff is considered a sith weapon due to its history. Few Jedi knew how to properly attack and defend against such a weapon thereby creating a psychological factor. I also stand by the decision to train Maul in form VII. While some consider the form a weakness to the sith, many would consider it his greatest strength. Form VII is also considered the form of the sith by jedi and sith alike. This fact also contributes to Sidious making Maul the perfect sith lord. Maul was to be the exact opposite of everything the jedi are not.
    I personally believe that Mauls greatest weakness was his shortsightedness and as well as him depending on his own physical limits instead of the force.

  • @widgren87

    I get the feeling that the Sith is more likely to push Niman to its limits as the greatest practitioners of the form was mostly Sith. This seems to another thing the Jedis code and overall policy of Restraint and Moderation works against them they rarely, if ever, push their limits in either the Force or lightsaber-combat.
    This could explain why Galen Marek could do things most thought to be impossible with the Force, there was nobody telling him it couldn't be done. Works on Old Republic Jedi and the Sith Masters of Old as well, they kept pushing themselves in ways the Post-Reformations Jedi did not.

    With the way Form VI works, it seems a bit wrong to say that it supplements Ataru; it's rather that this incarnation of Maul would be a Niman duelist that specializes in and enhances the Form IV aspects of it. Exar Kun's technique, while officially confirmed to be Niman, borders on Juyo in its ferocity and chaotic nature, and I think the same line of thought could be applied to Maul: Niman edging closer to Ataru. He certainly wouldn't be as heavy on the acrobatics as for example Yoda, so that seems about right to me.
    I also agree with your choice of weapon for Maul. Yeah, he's THE saberstaff wielder in everybody's mind thanks to TPM, but we have seen him without one in TCW all the time, so it's not like you have to adhere to that image. Form VI might be the go-to style for double-bladed lightsabers, but Ataru is probably ill-suited for it. I dare say the chances of Maul accidentally killing himself with his saberstaff would be higher if he tried to use it with Form IV. Given the styles you decided on for Maul, a single blade is the way to go.

    I agree with saying that maul would be trained in form 4 and 6. Honestly, watching episode 1 that's actually what I got from that.. Especially after learning that maul was trained in hand to hand (a TK user) and form 4 uses physical attacks (unless you are Yoda)... One thing that you don't mention though... Both form 4 and 6 are pathways to dual wielding... So yes.. Maul wouldn't have his staff... But he would likely learn to swing two sabers... Maybe as just a backup...
    All in all.. We'd end up with someone that would have all the choices at a drop of a hat.. Single blade, two sabers, force powers, leathal unarmed fighting..

    Personally, I disagree with the notion that Maul shouldn't be trained in Juyo. Yes, it was most effective when drawing on one's emotions and required serious mental discipline, but THAT is exactly why Maul was so efficient with it. Maul's emotions tied into Juyo so perfectly, and of course he was highly disciplined. As for mastering Maul in Ataru and Soresu, Maul already has knowledge of these two forms. In Maul Lockdown, towards the end of the book, Maul used an Ataru strike. Furthermore, Maul is incredibly acrobatic and implements physical strikes into his lightsaber sequences whenever he gets the opportunity. I don't doubt Maul did in-fact master Ataru purely based off that. Yes, his hand-to-hand prowess was primarily from Teras Kasi and various other exotic and forbidden martial arts, but I would also argue that Ataru played some role in Maul's martial art mastery. As for Soresu, Maul used its ready stance when engaging Sidious, and has also never had his defense broken by any opponent in Lightsaber combat, other than Lord Sidious. From that we can conclude that Maul was quite proficient with the Form, but no master of it. On top of all that, Maul was an absolute master of Niman, which was an amalgamation of the previous five Forms, including Soresu and Ataru.

      @DeathScepter 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right. Highly Self Disciplined is a trait that required or should be a requirement to even be considered to study Juyo. A common trait between Jedi and Sith is Self Discipline in order to truly master their teachings. One of the reasons that Jedi restricted Juyo to Jedi Masters due to that Jedi Masters are known for their Highly Self Disciplined Nature. True that the Sith relish in their darker emotions including Rage, Selfishness and Hate but understanding how to use those emotions is a part of Sith Teachings. Many Jedi and Sith die due to a lack of self control and self discipline.

    What about Dual Wield? I feel like Maul, had he focused more on dual wield, would have excelled beyond the norm as a combatant.

    • @VanTesla
      @VanTesla 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are downsides to Dual Wield similar to double-blade. It's good in groups, but against a master of single saber combat with knowledge of the weakness of Dual Wield, then you get something similar to Episode 2 when Anakin went against Dooku. Or say how Obi-Wan could hold off Grievous. If he mastered Niman it would be good to be highly proficient in Dual Wield though, but against a serious single threat that uses a Lightsaber it be best to go single. Depending on his Force development having one free hand when not doing to handed saber strikes can allow him more mobility with acrobatics, easier use of sith sorcery, and possibly stunning or winded a dangerous opponent with a well placed punch. If Mall mastered Tutaminis, then he could also use said open hand to even catch a Lightsaber strike which would make most opponents shocked long enough to be sliced up by his blade.

    It's a lost conception, Bane favored force powers and "discreet" engagement against the Jedi, Mawl is the complete opposite of that philosophy, and is the one who broke the "masquerade" of the disappearance of the siths. I see no reason Bane would have considered or taken Mawl as an apprentice, and therefore further ponder and "polish him" in a different fashion than Sidious did.

    You seem to be going of the Book of the Sith and not the Bane Trilogy. You over simplified why Zannah used a double bladed saber. She did but it was a much shorter version then normal, shortening the the blade travel. Focusing on defense so she could use Sith sorcery, which was her primary discipline. Witch Bane considered the truest from of darkside power and more suited to her because of her physical size. Then if you go back to the Darth Plagueis book, Maul was never a Sith. He was a puppet that was only trained as an assassin, most secrets of the darkside were kept from him. That's the my main point, Bane would have trained Maul without keeping anything from him! Under Bane he would have been a Sith, not a tool. So I don't see how just what form he used under Sidious matters, his training would have been completely different from day one under Bane!

    Essentially this video compares different PURPOSES Maul would have been trained for. If Bane trained Maul, he'd have trained him as a proper apprentice in both lightsaber combat and in knowledge of the force. And eventually Maul would have grown strong enough to defeat Darth Bane and continue the Rule of Two with his own apprentice. All that is well and good, but Palpatine trained Maul as more of a Sith Assassin and didn't train him that much in Force because he wanted to keep Darth Plagueis off his back. Choice of the arguably more limited lightsaber staff was a clear indication of this. Maul was never meant to be strong enough to continue in the world of the Rule of Two, given that Palpatine believed in the Rule of One. Palpatine planned getting his hands on Anakin Skywalker so Maul, for all the training, was always meant to be discarded/done away with later on. Too bad Maul held a grudge against Obi-Wan and decided to kill him, but then, all his Sith life he was trained and indoctrinated to only see the immediate and for a few steps forward. And during his time after his first defeat to Obi-Wan he never learnt to really pick his alliances with a cool head.
