I sincerely like how this shows the dangers of idealism. Riz was a kid. It was obvious he was wracked with guilt and he wasn't trying to devour dozens of people. But Melon? He's an adult. He's a serial killer. He doesn't feel remorse and it's obvious from his actions. Talk-No-Jutsu isn't going to work here.
The man is a monster. His own existence is so full of pain that he sort of developed a Stockholm Syndrome about it. He has an appetite for meat but has the digestive system of a carnivore, he has no sense of taste so even if he ate what his body could handle it would taste like nothing, he’s deformed in a way that’s off putting for others, his mom is a whole other kind of monster, suffering is his life and he’s embraced it fully.

No, he wasn't naive or foolish. He was being HIMSELF. What Melon is, is very rare. And I don't mean hybridly, I mean MENTALLY. Most people will never even MEET IN PASSING someone like Melon. Seeing one like him and understanding immediately what he is is not a common skill. Legoshi didn't understand what Melon was, and there was no way he would have known. He genuinely just thought he was like Riz, confused, in pain, messed up, but savable. After all... who EXPECTS to meet a thing like Melon, something most people think only exists in scary movies and fiction. So he abided by his nature and reached out. He wanted to help, because he didn't know Melon was beyond help. He didn't know what Melon really was. Melon then TAUGHT Legoshi what he really was.

This is perhaps what finally makes the Beastars world more realistic. Some folk aren't just misunderstood, needing help, or inherently good people yearning to show their true selves, they're just bastards. Plain and simple. Too many works of fiction try to avoid portraying genuine psychopaths, but they do exist, and pretending that everyone just needs a redemption arc kind of destroys the credibility of good fiction.
While I agree with ur general statement, fiction doesn't have to potray the entire lenght and breath of human experience to be realistic. Some show not showing psychopaths after running for only one season doesn't make it not realistic.

If you traumatize someone enough, they will eventually lose such ability to feel certain emotions or they will be rather warped. When I was a kid, I had to grow up with teachers getting in my face, trying to change my grades after the fact. Being told my very existence is somehow a problem by both student and teacher alike and having teachers watch as I get jumped. I went to a college I worked very hard to get into thinking it would be different and had my efforts belittled at every turn. The final switch for me was when I decided to open up and express my feelings about my life to people, I thought I could trust, and it was instantly used against me. At that point I realized how pointless it was to be nice and just focused on being kind in my own way. Not gona lie though as much as I respect and relate to legoshi... in more ways than one. Had he said those types of things to me it would have brought me far more anger than any slur ever did.

Also, he has seen what he is like. Even when Melon was being nice the first time, he ended up shooting Legosi. Maybe he thought back to Riz, alongside his mother. Since Riz snapped out of it because of Legosi. I hope we see a side of him thats more aggressive though.
Yeah it makes no sense to me. I get that they're both mixed animals but Melon has killed innocent herbivores. Legosi fought a bear about 3 times his width for killing Tem. Riz only killed one herbivore and actually had a pretty good excuse. Melon kills for no other reason than the fact he finds it fun
AND ITS EVEN WORSE IN THE MANGA. In the manga, Yahya handcuffs him at the party just for Legoshi to feel sorry for him, uncuff him, follow him outside and get shot.
I strongly believe Legoshi will survive because I remember Sagwan teaching Legoshi ocean language while he was in the bathhouse which Legoshi will use that will save his life.
The manga ended years ago, some viewers already know everything that’ll happen, even with the mass repositionings, changes, and/or removals of various plot threads.
I was freaked out when Melon shot Legoshi on the beach. This scene shows how sick Melon is and has no hope for redemption. Melon is a true psychopath and sociopath. I can't want to see what he'll try to do to Haru. I hope the complete series will come to DVD and Blu-Ray.

Two-Face ar least gives a chance to folks who are not his targets and Black Mask is far too unhinged with the social masks theme to really stay subtle Melon has the Joker's savvy in criminal operations and sense of showmanship (though the clown uses fear and better rewards for his mooks to follow him. Melon mostly banks on fear and despair...) and Dr Crane's sadism and psychological expertise to have citizens in need trust him...
Honestly love these kind of villain. Sure redemption arc can be great especially those that are wriiten masterfully. But some aren't meant nor want to be 'saved'...

Melon is similar to Baldur, in that he’s so deprived of certain sensations and stimuli the only way he can truly feel is by doing something at an absolute extreme. The only pleasure available to him is causing and taking pain
This situation sort of reminds me of Steven Universe. Steven's greatest strength was having sympathy for his enemy, something he got from his mother. There were times it backfired and put him in dangerous situations. Like, lots of times. Spinel from the post-series Movie is the perfect example, who mocked Steven for trying to sympathize with her pain. I shouldn't have to keep adding to this comment but, Legoshi: "Why are you doing this?" Kind of reminds me of that "Jason" comic.
Such a suave, whimsical polarazing persona. Everything about him is so great Melon is just so good in anime, they actually managed to make him even more deranged, psychotic, and smarter than his manga counterpart, also he doesn't feel out of place anymore. He was being teased since Season 2, and this is the climax. My favorite part of Beastars is Melon, and I hope Orange fixes the issues manga presented after CH 140 til 196 So far they are doing PERFECT job in his portrayal (His VA, his mannerisms, or even simple hand movements) Literally everything is spot on
Beastars starting out in the theatre club in school really allows itself for real extra characters down the line. Surprised it took until Melon for characters to be this crazy. The 3d animation also helps in making it feel like a performance and not just stuff you can watch outside of theatre
Part of growing up is realizing that there are people out there who are irredeemable. They don't want help, nor do they need it. That strat worked on Riz, a young bear who mistook his one-sided love as mutual and didn't want to kill his friend, but it doesn't work on a fully grown hybrid like Melon who can't feel anything but pain, and kills for fun.
Every Saint has a past; and every sinner has a future. I think it’s presumptuous to think “we” can fix someone. They have to want to get better themselves. But it might take years of being broken to realize it. Years of hurting others. So, as a bystander, the only thing you can do, is stop them from hurting those you care about.
I don’t know. Chucky had regular loving parents and he still turned out to be evil. Even Lucas Baker had loving parents in Resident Evil 7 but was a lost cause as well. Yeah it makes no sense to me. I get that they're both mixed animals but Melon has killed innocent herbivores. Legosi fought a bear about 3 times his width for killing Tem. Riz only killed one herbivore and actually had a pretty good excuse. Melon kills for no other reason than the fact he finds it fun

I was freaked out when Melon shot Legoshi on the beach. This scene shows how sick Melon is and has no hope for redemption. Melon is a true psychopath and sociopath. I can't want to see what he'll try to do to Haru. I hope the complete series will come to DVD and Blu-Ray.

This situation sort of reminds me of Steven Universe. Steven's greatest strength was having sympathy for his enemy, something he got from his mother. There were times it backfired and put him in dangerous situations. Like, lots of times. Spinel from the post-series Movie is the perfect example, who mocked Steven for trying to sympathize with her pain.

Beastars starting out in the theatre club in school really allows itself for real extra characters down the line. Surprised it took until Melon for characters to be this crazy. The 3d animation also helps in making it feel like a performance and not just stuff you can watch outside of theatre

Part of growing up is realizing that there are people out there who are irredeemable. They don't want help, nor do they need it. That strat worked on Riz, a young bear who mistook his one-sided love as mutual and didn't want to kill his friend, but it doesn't work on a fully grown hybrid like Melon who can't feel anything but pain, and kills for fun.

I don’t know. Chucky had regular loving parents and he still turned out to be evil. Even Lucas Baker had loving parents in Resident Evil 7 but was a lost cause as well.
