    added the track selects to the description since you guys are always asking for what music I'm using 🎵 glad ya'll enjoyed the edit as much as I enjoyed making it.
    Probably no video next week, I'm dropping a handpainting course for beginners next month so I need to take time to clean it up before that drops.

    This is a great starting point to get an idea of what it is and where it's used.
    I don't know if it would serve the purpose of this video, but I would've loved to see a bit more technical in-depth examples of how that procedural generation can turn into all of those textures and how it is used to generate worlds. The video was still amazing, so keep up the good work :D

  • @klaik30
    @klaik30 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Amazing video as always. The last part especially made me think about one problem that I've come across several times now and I still don't have an answer for it.
    This is the fact that you using some procedural object to divide up an already defined object/mesh like a cube or sphere in your example. The thing is, how is it possible to create these new smaller meshes on the fly? Their vertices have to be recalculated, also their normals and depending on exactly what technique is used to render the object, even its index buffer needs to be changed.
    Now this might be possible to do on the GPU really fast (though I don't know in what shader this would be. Maybe geometry shader for creating new primitives?) but then we throw physics into the mix which is almost ALWAYS done on the CPU. Now its not just a rendering problem that resides on the GPU, it also has to convey the new information to the CPU so that it can create these new smaller objects to apply physics on them so they interact with the game world correctly.
    The naive solution is that the voronoi pattern for destruction and the resulting smaller meshes are already defined offline and are just instantiated/loaded when the parameters for destruction are met (maybe a set of different destruction patterns are chosen from), which would make it way easier to actually implement in real time.
    I don't know if I worded the problem well enough to be understood but I was wondering if you came across this when you were researching for this video? Are there some common techniques by which this is done?

    • @Hietakissa
      @Hietakissa ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean how is it possible? I don't see it being that computationally expensive if that's what you mean, since it only has to be done once per object. In something like Unity, you can just make a new Mesh() (or a couple). What I'm more interested in is how the newly generated faces are textured.

    • @klaik30
      @klaik30 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hietakissa Well im talking more about actual technical implementation in a game engine. ”Just” making a new mesh is not the problem. The problem is properly defining all the new primitives that are created from such an operation. Even in Unity just calling Mesh() wont help you if you cant figure out what the input vertices are, right?

    • @ByBy001
      @ByBy001 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "... are already defined offline ..." pretty much this. You don't want your game to be a stutter fest when loading new meshes during the action. Nowadays that's pretty much a box to tick in modern engines like Unreal although you still need to feed it other settings.
